Do you think this is considered "kept" hair?

I seen this picture online, I think her hair is bbeeauuttiful, so some feel as though their hair is not combed? It looks combed to me....

I guess I understand natural hair better. Natural doesn't always look straight or neat per say, but thats because of the texture of some hair

Thoughts? Is this "combed" to you?
Is this something you would wear to work or whatever ?

Both of them are fine. When I was natural and going on job interviews I purposely did my hair like the second pic and picked it out as big as I could. I am sure that lost me some jobs but I wanted to be hired by a place I did not have to change my hair for. Thanks for the hair porn, LOL!

It looks combed to me as well. I would not wear it to work, but I would wear it everywhere else. That's just my personal preference. I have seen a few women in my building though who wear their hair similar.

I would call it more big hair. Not uncombed or unkept.

Her hair looks gorgeous to me! Her hair is just BIG. I personally LOVE big hair, but it seems to frighten others for whatever reason? Maybe they just can't take all of that lusciousness? Maybe they are to insecure with their own less voluminous hair that they think her hair is too large and in charge? Maybe they just think big hair is taking up too much universal room compared to their own flat, sleek hair? And everybody is given a secret unknown amount of space that their hair can take up, but in their mind she's DEFINITELY crossed that line?

Whatever the reason they are disliking her hair doesn't make any difference. I personally love it and I'm guessing she does too. And as long as a office rule isn't "your hair must be in a bun that only takes up 3 cubed inches of room", then I think her hair is fine.

Your title threw me off. i think you mean "kempt"; not kept.

My hair looks exactly like that everyday. I'm natural, 4CZ and by the middle of the day (from the Florida humidity and heat) my braid-out or twist-out would be undone and frizz up. Couldn't be helped; can't be helped.

I think I've found a product now that makes my braid-outs and twist-outs keep its definition and lasts all day. But before that no one said anything about my hair or looked funny at me. Been natural since 2010.

What product did you find? if you don't mind sharing. tia

when my hair gets bigger I surely will wear my hair like that to work.
ppl need to understand that natural hair can be combed and clean yet still be perceived at unkempt because they are using a totally different standard for determining "kemptness". IE straight or slicked back hair, thats tucked away.

here are some styles Ive worn my hair to work.
Ive actually been called up by the HR manager to say that my hair is not neat. I told her that I would report her to one of several civil liberty groups if she mentioned this to me again even in jest because my hairstyle was not in violation of any of the codes of conduct (I mean men can wear cornrows and frikkin BRAIDS to the office but I cant wear my hair in a twist out??)

I live in Jamaica, the population is at least 90% black ... ppl need to get with the programme. As Marcus Garvey said -- take the kink out of your MIND for before you take it out of your hair.

faithVA hydroquenchsystems on etsy.com's Puttyful The Anti-gel.

I've tried 10 - 15 different gels and curling creams and none of them helped a style last more than a 1/2 day. My hair would always turn into a huge 'fro. During her 50% off sale in June, I ordered the Puttyful on a whim. The description says nothing about using it for braidouts or twistouts. She said she created it for laying down her hair or ponytail. It works for my 4CB hair in maintaining a braid-out/twistout. I get 2nd day hair, too.

The only other gel that will half-way maintain a hairstyle is Uncle Funky's Daughter Curly Magic. In the Wintertime a style will last all day. But not in this Florida humidity/heat. It's my #2 on the list of favorite styling product.

But in the hydroquench thread, there are those that say it does not work for a WnG. I don't do WnG's. WnG's don't work for me 'cause I have no curl definition.

Like I said, she created the product for laying down the hair and I use it for perfect braid-outs and twist-outs. Go, figure!

I love this stuff so, I ask her to make it in 16 oz; she did, and I bought several. Never want to run out again!

I'm now using all those other gels on DH's 3A/B/C hair.

Her hair looks done to me, and I can't wait till I can wear my hair like that. Let the shade begin. I can see where someone would make a comment about her hair "not being done". When I had locs, there was time when I stopped twisting my hair so much because I was washing weekly. I often got comments from (black people) telling me that I needed to twist my hair, or when I would twist my hair they'd always make sure to say things lie " oh you twisted your haur". I would reply " I prefer to have clean hair, than neat twisted hair"

It is styled nicely. I personally would not wear my hair like this to work but on the weekends it's on!

the first pic it doesnt look styled to me. the second pic is a little bit better. i wouldn't wear my hair like that. it doesnt fit my look personally.

And let the church say AMEN.

Only when we learn to love our own texture and let this and the next generation know what our "true" hair looks like, will we begin to totally accept our own beauty and styles. I believe the next generation of boys will know what our natural beauty looks like, appreciate it and accept it as the norm.

DH is a 3. His four sisters are 3s. His mother is a 2. But when I went natural, I had no problem with him telling me my hair was unkempt EVER and I'm a 4Z. In fact, he encouraged me to go natural years before I actually did. I love that man!!!

Thank You. I saw the thread but haven't checked it out yet. I will make sure I remember this. Right now I have to many gels to allow myself to buy another. And i have no hair. I am glad you found something that works.

Sorry for the OT

gorgeous hair!
it definitely looks "done."
now would i wear it on a job interview? no. but that's just me.

Your hair looks GORGEOUS!! So thick! love the reddish highlights.

She's pretty, lol. Anywho this is one of my staple looks! When my hair frizzes it looks like that and when I blow it out it looks like that. I like the way rocking blown out hair looks, kind like how beautifulbrownbabydoll on youtube rocks it sometimes. I love it.

I like them both, and the both look styled to me. If I were in a corporate setting, I'd wear my hair like the second picture just because I think it's more professional to have your hair out of your face. That goes for straightened hair or unstraightened IMO.

I think it looks fine in both pics, it looks purposely styled. I wouldn't wear my hair like that personally the tangles alone it would create wouldn't be nice, my hair would hate me lol

The 2nd pic is how I wear my WnG's. I can't take hair in my face....I have a round face, and it's just too much. I will be wearing my hair like this for interviews, or in twist out's pushed back off my face. I work in the Social Work field, and diversity is celebrated.

I like big hair on Other women....so the first pic is cute, but it could never be me!

Its nice on them, but its too messy for me. I am more of a sleek polished person. I dont care for super big hair.....
