Ok, so I just love all things hair! As ALL of us do right. That's why we are here. But most of the black women I know in day to day life couldn't care less about hair if they tried. Working in a corporate environment with lots of yt women around I have become close to some of them. One in particular. We are actually very close and she talks about hair. But it just isn't an enjoyable experience for me. She knows that I am on this board and knows that I like hair and that's why she talks about it with me. But she says the dumbest things. Like we just got into a mini argument about trimming your ends. I said trimming your hair does not make it grow. It simply makes it look nicer, gets rid of splits and helps you retain better. It has nothing to do with the hair that grows out of your scalp. She disagrees saying that when she doesn't get her hair cut she loses a lot of hair. I didn't argue with that and said, yes she might be experiencing an increase in shedding and also breakage since her ends needs to come off. Again, nothing to do with the hair coming out of your scalp. I let her have her opinions but she makes fun of a lot of the stuff on here. Like the deep conditioning treatments some of us do. (yougurts, oils moinstat -???even that is questionable to me but if it works for you more power to you!) I have yet to remind her that my hair is not the same as hers and all hair isn't created equal.
I am glad to have you ladies here to talk about hair with. I was just thinking the other day how we have developed a community where you can go and get help/advice. Overprocessed, bad dye job, increased breakage? Come on here and find someone to help you. It is amazing. I just wish I had more people in day to day life to bs with hair about. That conversation with my yt coworker kinda gets under my skin. I try not to let it bother me but does anyone else have people around them like this. I don't mean people that are ignorant and curious about our hair but people that think we are created equal in that department but thinks we are doing something wrong with the way we care for our hair (for those of us that are doing everything right)
