i brush sometimes, i have 2 paddle brushes...one small oval and one big square paddle brush and i do have a plastic brush which i plan to replace with a boar bristle or maybe a soft hair brush.

When I first got a relaxer @ 14, my Mom told me to throw my brush away cuz "it's bad for relaxed hair" or something. Haven't brushed since. (21 now)

I brush my hair every day with my Denman D3 brush, I love it for detangling because it is a bit like a comb rather than a standard bristle brush, I also love my Denman paddle brush, I use this to blow dry occasionally and to distribute oils that I put on my scalp it feels really nice!! And I use my bristle brush to tidy my edges sometimes

All the people that said no must have read something from Cathy Howse :lachen:

I have a paddle brush and a bristle brush, but I use neither. I'm convinced they just rip out my hair, so I gave them up a while ago. I don't even use them for wrapping.

I went years without brushing. In the 11 years I was natural before I found hair boards, I probably brushed once or twice. I didn't even own a brush. What for? I mean, what would it do for me? In the past half a year or so, I've probably brushed like 7 or 8 times, though. Since everybody was raving about the Denman, I tried that a few times and was unsuccessful. I now have a Goody Styling Therapy add shine brush which I've used a handful of times. It's gentler than the Denman. I'm still not sure I need it, though. Anyway, my brushing would just be for removing the shed hair, not for styling.

I only brush when I need to smooth my edges for an emergency bun. Actually using a scarf works better than using a brush.

:lachen:Got me! That's how I started my journey actually.

I brush my hair once in a while for smoothing and taming NG and edges!!! My usage has gone down about 90% though!

Yes: i brush how Macherieamour demostrates in her wrapping tuturial and I brush w/ my Denman to detangle if necessary when co-washing. but thats it

i use my denman on wash day. i use it right before i rinse my dc out. but this is after i comb with my seamless shower comb. i only use this brush on wash day to remove the shed. when i where ponny or bun i use my soft bristle boar after i make the bun to lay down any fly aways. i do not brush my edges with this. i use my baby brush for my edges (my edges are my babies, they need so much tender, love and care) to get them to lay flat after i moisturize and apply oil.

I haven't used a brush since November. I HAVE let a friend use a brush in my hair twice...and I almost died. I saw all that hair fall out, and I WAS FINNA FALL OUT!I stayed calm and collected, but I was DYING with all those broken pieces of hair on the flo. Brushes are the DEBIL!

No. I can't believe there are so many people ho do not brush. I wonder if anyone notices the difference since they stopped. I certainly see less breakage..

i use a paddle brush if it's dry and gonna glide through, my fingers or a comb if it's not, and nothing, maybe a soft brush or a jilbere comb, if it's wet

I have a very soft bristle brush that I use to aid in my scalp massage, also when I need tp brush my hair or edges down to style it. I use it very lightly and it doesn't negatively affect my hair.

Currently I just purchased a denman brush for detangling purposes, so I use that every now and then but that's it. When it comes to smoothing my hair, I'd just use the palm of my hands and use a baby toothbrush on my edges if needed.

Oh my. Could this be why you can see the tv through my ends? I brush my hair with a denman every other day. I'm transitioning and those naps in my crown just kill me. If I don't brush them, I play with them all day.

Not at all!!! I use a paddle brush about once a month to remove shed hairs...but i brush VERY gently, after my hair is blowdried or flatironed straight....

I use a fine toothed comb and carrot oil to get my edges...during stretches, but when i hit a tangle...i don't force it...it stays there:yep:

I remember when I was a lurker )before I went natural and back to relaxed again:rolleyes:) I thought you ladies were C-R-A-Z-Y for not brushing...I didn't get it... I haven't brushed in over 2 years now though...I think that I can contribute about 60-70% my current thickness to not brushing...and the rest to low-mani and no pony-tails

If I tell ppl that I don't brush IRL they look at me like im off my rocker...:look:

As a natural 4ab, I started brushing (with natural boar brush and boar/nylon mix) very recently. I noticed my hair is much more moisturized and I thought I'd give it a try. Brushing spreads that precious sebum which is the ultimate sealer! I do it in small parts about 1 or 2 a week. I also can get it a little straighter and shinier naturally! I love how it smooths out my hair shaft making it EASY as pie to finger comb during the week.

Oh, and I don't lose hardly any hair, maybe 1 or 2 strands (with bulbs at the end) no breakage!

I use the Denman brush under running water while rinsing out my DC.
I rarely use any other kind of brush but if I do, I smooth my edges down and pass that brush very lightly so only the sides of the bristles touch my hair. I've used an old toothbrush too but the baby brush I just have to get.
