Did anyone else know this?

Ladies,

I wasn't going to post this until I had some pictures and had been doing this for at least 6 mos. However, I am just thrilled with the results, so far. Overall, my hair is in good condition, but there was this patch just above my nape that took forever to grow. It had broken off, possibly due to stress. Anyway, I was just frustrated with my stylist saying "it's coming along, but it will take time." I came upon a conditioner recipe posted by a stylist named Keisha Forrest on ehow.com. This is what she posted:

"I use plain cholesterol in which I add either olive oil or Kemi Oil, a reconstructor and/or liquid protein (like that stinky ApHOGEE Treatment for Damaged Hair)! I make it into a "hair pudding" and apply to the hair after every shampoo. Put a plastic cap on and sit them under the dryer."

This has solved my problem! That short patch grew out in a couple of months and is now almost even with the rest of my hair - totally unnoticeable. It also helped me stretch my texlax for 13 weeks - in the summer, which is crazy! I gained 3" within those weeks and retained 2.5" after my trim. My stylist was like "What are you doing?! Whatever it is, keep it up!" The ultimate test is to see if I gain/retain as much growth, since hair tends to grow slower in the colder months. Also, I shed considerably less hairs (sometimes, none at all) and no breakage. So I see the retention, not to mention my hair is very strong. I do this weekly after shampoos, like she stated.

My recipe contained: Aphogee Treatment (1 - 1.5T), Kemi Oyl(.5 - 1T), Silk Elements Cholesterol (2T). I tried Jojoba and oilve oil, but those didn't work on my hair for this mixture. The jojoba felt weird, maybe cuz it's a wax, not an oil.

Sorry this is so long, but I wanted to be thorough with my info.

This is a keeper!

Is the "T" a tablespoon or teaspoon? Rounded or level? How long is your hair (so I can know if I need a littlt more or a little less)? Thanks in advance!

Ooooo! This is right on time. I just posted how I have a patch in my crown area that's completely broken off because of underprocessing (it's about 3 inches long) and I want to get it back quick, fast, and in a hurry. I am definitely going to give this a try. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thank you so much for this info.

I am sooo happy you found something to grow your hair back. This looks very good.

Mrs. Kraft...let me know how it works for you.

Thank you for this info--I'm saving this in my files. :fan:
So after rinsing this out, did you follow with a moisturizing conditioner? Have you done this as a pre-poo?

this mix sounds really good!!thanks for sharing!!! I already have the cholesterol and the aphogee
in my stash I just need to get the Kemi oyl

lunalight7,

I just used Silk Elements cholesterol. As long as it's a plain cholesterol, i'm sure it doesn't matter what brand you use.

Kbragg,

the "T" is for Tablespoon and it was level. My hair is about 2" past my shoulder. This mixture is similar to a "custom blend" conditioning treatment. I posted something about this before. Do a search in the forums and you'll find the discussion on "custome blends." Usually the proportions of moisture and protein you need depend on you hair needs. I typically need more moisture. So I always use protein in at least a 2-1 (moisture-protein). That's what I used in this recipe, because the poster wasn't specific on how she did it. Stick with "T"s until you find the balance you need for your own hair.

Isis,

No, I didn't follow up with a moisturizing conditioner. I think you may be referring to the Aphogee treatment. The first time I did this, I did follow up with the Balancing conditioner, but it didn't do anything. The mixture is very moisturizing and leaves the hair soft, strong and manageable. I don't pre poo, I'm pretty low maintenance.

So Lustrasilk Cholestrol probably wouldn't qualify then, huh????

Thanks for posting this but ladies I have a question. ive heard most naturals say that the aphogee for damaged hair was too strong/stiff for their hair ( i guess concentrated/high protein content)
What do y'all think?

I think the 2-1 ratio of Moisturizing conditioner to Aphogee helps to dilute the strength of this protein treatment. I LOVE Aphogee and I probably use it way too much but it seems like my hair can't get enough protein. It gives my strands such structure and strength. I have a huge bottle of Aphogee so I will be doing this twice per week. This seems like it would have an effect similar to the Cathy House UBH conditioner. This conditioner was heavy on the protein but I loved it for my hair.

If your hair is damaged, you could start with lighter proteins and see if they work. If they don't...then go with a stronger protein. I like to cut out the middle man and just use emergencee or aphogee every few months when I see breakage. I dont like doing frequent protein conditioning...

That's cool you found what works for your hair. I love doing custom blend treatments, they're the best. I used my Silk Elements Cholesterol last night. It's definitely one of the best cholesterols I've ever used.

Scarcity,

I have NEVER, EVER used Aphogee full strength or followed the directions. I understand that this a treatment to be used once every 6 weeks. However, I ALWAYS use a plastic cap and I always dilute it - at least 2-1. While stretching my texlax, I found I had to use a little more Aphogee to keep my hair strong and balanced the longer I stretched. The Aphogee corrected the "damage" my hair was going through when it was being deprived of the chemical for so long. So, I had almost no shedding during this time.

Whoa!!! My hair DID NOT like this. I don't think my hair cares for protein too much. It's gets hard and brittle even when I use moisturizing shampoo and conditioner afterwards. Maybe I'll try just the cholestrol and see how that works!!

I tried a version of this and loved it, the only thing I would do different is maybe add some more protein. I did a mix of Olive oil, miss keys 10 en 1, Lustrasilk Tea Tree Cholestrol, AO GPB, and Sebastian Laminates Reconstrution Masque. I will keep on doin this one

I think i might have to use this tomorrow when i do my wash. Are you guys making enough just for one wash or do you have left over and store it somewhere?

I just thought I'd bump this. I tried this again last weekend after I texlaxed and I have lost very little hair throughout the week. Whenever I put my hands in my hair I normally get several hairs in my hand. Not this past week. I'll be doing this again today!!! :yep: I used SE Cholestorol (2 tbsp), EVOO (1 tbsp), honey (0.5 tbsp), and Aphogee Two step (1 tbsp). I DCed with heat for an hour, then sleep in it overnight (cuz I was too lazy to wash it out). I'll use the same products this time, but I won't leave it overnight. I'll sit under the dryer for an hour or two.
