Sounds like people effected should start a class action lawsuit. Deva said they had their stuff tested again and it's safe. However if people's hair is falling out that's lawsuit territory potentially. There's strength in numbers.

I believe there currently is a class action lawsuit investigation happening. This isn't looking good for DevaCurl at all. I see the same thing that happened with WEN happening to them.

I think this is what's causing many ppl hair loss. I remember back when ppl were getting the Komaza Care hair analysis and the common diagnosis was to stop co-washing and use shampoos, as it coats the hair and scalp and isn't good for either.

I mostly cowash, using shampoo maybe once a month. Maybe. Not all cowashes are good ones. Like ones that are sold and marketed as regular conditioners. The cowashes I use have a little bit of lathering. I also wash a couple of times a week and don't use oil or butters.
Cowashes aren't bad imo. People just aren't using them in the best way.

I have been following all the threads, posts and comments about all the unfortunate happenings involving Devacurl in full disbelief. If you have not been caught up, I recommend you look on Devacurl’s posts on any social media platform. Many are accusing the products of causing hair loss, scalp burn, loss of texture along with other symptoms.
At first, I thought it was the general bashing of one consumer and tried to give it time while I waited for Devacurl’s response. They have now said their products are absolutely fine. After receiving frantic calls, emails and messages from my clients along with seeing all the posts and messages of other curly girls all across social media, I think the best thing is to to be cautious at this time. I am putting away my Devacurl products until something definitive comes out saying whether or not the products are safe and I suggest you do the same.
As I always have, I encourage you to enjoy your hair and use what you like. If you choose to keep using Deva because you haven’t noticed any negative side effects, I am relieved for you and wish you many beautiful hair days. If you’ve ever had any doubt about the products, please stop using them.
As of now I will no longer be using Deva on myself or my family, nor in the salon on my clients. For now, I can not recommend the brand. I hope things will turn around for Deva. It was a company that I enjoyed being a part of. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

BUT, I do agree with the part of her message which implies. Co-Washing only is not good for Scalp/Hair health. One absolutely must include cleansing & Clarifying (depending on their product usage) to maintain optimum Scalp & Hair health.
I also can see the logic of another YouTuber who suggests that though DevaCurls' ingredients might be great..... There may be something that happens during the post production Storage to Consumer Use process ....or when HEAT is applied that may be causing these bad reactions.
I believe that there are many variables that could contribute to the damage the consumers have experienced. I don't blame the Stylist for abandoning Professional Use of the Products; and I don't blame the Clients who may or may not continue to use these. ANYONE who does continue usage must proceed with CAUTION, and exercise Due-Care for their Hair.
BTW I still like and recently purchased the Decadance Cleanser, I use it as my 2nd/3rd (final cleanse); and I clarify reg-u-lar-ly. On occasion I will use the "Melt" conditioner. I appreciate how Hydrated my hair feels after the cleansing.
HOWEVER, I inform my clients of the Shampoo & Complaints; and leave it up to them to use or not use. [I only perform dry services; all my clients to the maintenance at home]

The Curl Ninja posted a response and I agree that Co Washing with Co Wash and not conditioner is different. Co Washes have surfactants and I have heard my scalp squeak when using a good cowash. I do believe you should alternate as you see fit with a shampoo thought... For me, cowashing works well when cleaning the hair more than 1x a week..... my ideal is to shampoo 1x a week.... anything on top of that is a cowash...

But what's interesting is that before the invention of the cowash conditioner/cleanser, everyone used regular cheapie conditioner to co wash and there weren't as many problems.
I definitely think there are many unknown variables of why this is happening but it seems that the main products with the complaints are the various no poo cleansers and conditioners. I don't think people realized that they may not have been caring for their scalp as well as they may have thought. No, it's not entirely their fault, but a bit more research could have helped.

Im not trying to be funny but youre telling me people never shampoo? I use clay 99% of the time and on the occasion I dont I use shampoo. I know from research from years and years, no matter how i love cowash I need to get buildup off my scalp and cowash doesnt do that.

Even back in 2004 when v05 was my boo, I still used shampoo( shampoo alternate) once a month. I could tell from my hair when the buildup was there and when the scalp wasnt clean. I just dont understand how folks arent researching when WEN came about. Cowashed evolved over time due to these issues but essentially you need to remove product even if its with black soap, soapnuts, aritha. etc

When I first was transitioning, I cowashed all the time, with cowash and conditioner-- my hair got coated... not really my scalp....

I used a lot of heavy butter products when I first when natural. Now I rarely use anything thats heavily formulated with products that dont rinse out easily. Shea butter was everywhere. My scalp would itchy if conditioner got on it. Anything creamy. So I started using ayurvedic methods and then clay. I switch back and forth between the two. I used Bobeam Shampoo bars once a month when she launched. A few of Chagrin but I could tell if stuff got on my scalp because I would itch it after washing @vevster

I used these products on my daughter's hair at the suggestion (unsolicited) of a family member. What I usually use on my daughter's hair works just fine, but this person kept talking about Deva Curl so I thought I would give it a try. I used it and was unimpressed. It made her curls hard and dry. Seeing that the formula has been changed is confirmation for me that I didnt use the product wrong.

someone convinced them that the mild surfactants in the no poo was enough, I don't see how because the no poo contains fatty alcohols and other conditioning agents that leave deposits on the scalp and hair shaft. Isopropyl Palmitate is the 4th ingredient of the nopoo and it has a comedogenic rating of 4. I see why this product would cause scalp issues.

Yes, they are sending a pre paid box or whatever to send everything back. They prob want to test the products too.
They are processing returns, not just credits, you need to actually return the merchandise.
