Cornrow Challenge!

Ok, I'm not sure of all the information you need but here you go just in case.

I cornrowed my hair Aug. 29th and will take these out Oct. 2nd. So these are my Sept. braids. My shortest parts measure maybe 4.5" (nape) and the longest is 5.5" (crown) starting for the month. Since these are under my wig, I'm not big on neatness or anything else. As long as they're tight.

Does anyone know how to braid your whole head in a circle? I'd like to try it since the back of my hair is getting a bit long and I have to keep pushing them up under the wig. I'd like to give it a go for Oct.

I braided my hair up yesterday. I want you all to know, these braids are soooo crude. lol Thank God a wig is covering them up! But practice makes perfect. So hopefully my next round will be better. I may take these out and re-do them but I plan to try to keep the braids in for 2-3 weeks before rebraiding. I'm currently contemplating do I still want to wash my hair weekly with the braids in or wash in between braids. We'll see.

I'm def. in until Christmas....:yep:

My 'starting' pic is from April when I took out my second install...relaxed and then went on a 6 week break....haven't taken any or relaxed since then (just my leave out hair)

You did a good job!! Practice makes perfect. I learned while I was in elementary school, as my grandmother taught us and we got good practice on our Barbies and dolls. Keep practicing and play around with making smaller ones too, as that might be a little easier for your fingers especially if you have thick hair. I can't wait to see how you progress over the course of the next few months with your braiding skills!!

Is everyone still on this challenge??? If so can I join? I just cornrows on Saturday and will be leaving them in hopefully for 3 weeks and then leave my hair out for a week. I would like to do this until the end of the year.

Any specific rules like maximum time our hair can be left out to breath?

Is anyone having their hair cornrowed WITHOUT added hair and wearing this out to work (ie no wig covering)?

I have been thinking about doing this but I am a bit self-conscious about doing it because I am not sure how it would look...

Hey ladies, I have a confession. For a week and a half I've been wearing a wash and go, BUT I did put my cornrows back in last Tuesday. So I'm back in the game. No more playing around. I plan to continue wearing cornrows (under my wig) until March.

I am on the second cornrow install. Wearning them under my wig. This time I had weave added, Wednesday makes week 2. They are holding up well, but I am not sure they will make it to a month. I am for sure aiming for 3 weeks then the plan is to let my hair rest for a week, then I am contemplating getting a full sew in from the end of October until Christmas.. we will see!!

I just decided I'm going to cornrow and buy a wig this weekend to switch up from bunning and help me get through the end of this stretch with as little manipulation as possible. I'm also using a growth aide and it'll be much easier to apply it frequently in cornrows.

I couldn't wear cornrows to work, I'd even feel funny wearing them to church, some days out of the house period, so a wig is a must for me to be able to throw on when I want to look polished out in public.

I don't have hair added. I'm about almost APL. I'm not working at the moment so I'm not really stressing it. It is in a nice design so it looks ok. I would suggest getting some sort of design and pit it into a bun. That's what I'm doing.

I'm mostly relaxed so the ends are unraveling so I think this will last me a week at the most which is a little discouraging. Maybe I should do a half wig? :perplexed

LOL, I know right?! That was actually the first time I wore my natural hair for the world to see. But the wash and gos are a little too much for me right now. I think I'll be more comfortable wearing them when I can put my hair in a ponytail or something. I stretched it for 5 days and by day 5 it was a curly, frizzy (but cute) afro! Plus it's about to get cold so I need the extra warmth on my head with the wig!! :) So I'm definitely in it to win it until March 2010.

I'm going to start also. I cornrowed mine on Saturday as well. I'm wearing wigs until Dec/Jan (trying to reach MBL) and will redo them every 2 to 3 weeks.

Gonna wear them on and off through the winter myself :yep: OP.....I too love the fact that they make growth aides easy to apply. I've worn them most of the last 3 years, and have been wearing my own hair more recent. Gonna keep them moisturized, and castor oil on the scalp tied down with a nice scarf (extension braids) this winter. Also love that I don't handle my hair that much....A lot less manipulation

Did everyone fall of the wagon on this challenge.. Im still cornrowed under my wigs and we have another 22 days to go.. Any updates ladies?

Can I join this challenge? I am cornrowed under my sew in but Im taking it out and corn rowing until Jan 2nd when I get my relaxer...Ill be wigging it out until then....

Hi all, I am a newbie ( was a lurker for 3 years before this week) and I want to join this challenge. I am currently pregnant so it will make my life easier! I think I will use sulphur spray every other day and seal with my oil mixture. I keep my cornrows in for long....and I mean 2 months! I plan to cornrow until July 10 and I am currently 3 months post. I will post pics when I get my hair redone in 2 weeks!

I am still in. Cornrows (under my wigs) for the win!!!! I am so glad that this challenge came around because my hair is growing and this is the best PS (IMO) for that awkward TWA grow out phase.

Monday will make week 3 with my current set of cornrows. I have an appointment on December 21st for my full sew in. I plan on keeping them in until March 21st (fingers crossed)..

^^^ Life Coach isit safe to use sulphur while your pregnant?
