Coffee Rinsers! How is your hair growing?

My hair is doing well, thank you. I just did a coffee and nettle rinse, last night and today. The coffee didn't seem as strong though. Still, I had no issues with detangling or shedding.

I have been using Rosemary Tea. I like that one. I like that it is supposed to stimulate hair growth.

For tea rinses I have been using Green Tea. Coffee rinses make my scalp tingle. It sure helps to keep the hair from shedding too.

It's been going VERY well! I can't see a difference in growth (I really need to take some hair pictures!), but I'm definitely shedding less, and my hair is just happy, overall.

I'm new to the coffee and tea rinse could someone tell me what do you have to do? I would like to stop shedding if I can. Thanking you in advance.

Susan

Make coffee.
Let cool.
Pour over head as last 'wet' step in your regimen.

It's really that simple. I don't do tea rinses, so I can't make any recommendations. I usually brew two cups or a large cup and a half when I first put the DC in my hair, and by the time I'm done with my 'conditioning' time, detangling, and ready to get in the shower to rinse my hair, it's cooled down.
I use it as my last wet step, so nothing else wet (water, etc) touches my hair after the coffee rinse. I let the coffee mostly dry in my hair/on my scalp, and move on to my sealing steps.

Okay - this is really the easiest, best treatment for shedding (and detangling) - and gaining growth. Brew a regular pot of coffee, let it cool. After washing, cowashing your hair and/or conditioning, use the coffee as a final rinse. I do not rinse it out. Others do. I want my coffee to linger on my scalp as long as possible - i want ALL the benefits. Then you can follow up with your regularly scheduled styling. That's it.

Now, what I did this last time, i threw in a few nettle tea bags along with my coffee and brewed them together. My coffee was not as potent, but I liked the idea of the nettle - it has great benefits. I may just throw in some rosemary as well per Remaliku.

You can use this same technique for tea, as well.

Thanks JustKiya and Bobmshell, I think I'm going to give the coffee rinse a try. I am getting fed up with the shedding that occurs when I wash and detangle.

I just bought Nature's Gate aloe vera shampoo and conditioner to try out and both have coffee arabica seed extract in them, is that a good start? It's the 7th ingredient in the conditioner and 8th in the shampoo.

LadyLeo - you will luv it! I'm telling you, you'll amazed and hooked. I wish i I had done this years ago...i'd have more hair on my head, that's for sure.

That is an excellent start. But skip to the chase and do the coffee rinse. You'll be sooo glad you didn't wait.

I've been hearing good things about coffee rinses and tea rinses. Once I reach my first off session in my braids regimen (I'm doing 2 months in extensions and then 2 months in 2 strand twists with my real hair) I will try them out.

You can totally do them while your hair is still in braids, because there is nothing to get 'stuck' in your hair, so to speak. And the coffee smell doesn't linger - at least for me, it fades away until I get my hair wet again.

Thanks JustKiya, how strong do you make your coffee rinse?

Not super strong. I have a Senseo (one of those 'one cup' coffee makers) and I'll use one eco-pod (equal to two store brought pods) and run 2 cups of coffee through it.
So, a little weaker than I would be willing to drink, but still good and dark brown.

Oh lord, my cheap factor is coming out...well I guess 1 cup coffee makers can't be too expensive but would instant coffee have the same effects as brewed coffee? Feel free to laugh at me and my question cuz I'm cracking up at myself right now :lachen:

*lol* Yeah, I think instant would have the same punch - as long as it's caffeinated, as it's the caffeine in the coffee that is helping us out.

Ok cool beans, I'm a dorm rat and I don't drink coffee very often anymore so even if it is hair related, a coffee maker would not be a wise investment. Thanks again for your help!

Okay, Miss AJ and JK, from what I've read, you do NOT want to use Instant Coffee. Only go with brewed. Do a search on coffee rinsing and instant coffee and it should pop up the post(s) on that. I don't think you'll get the same results. Err on the side of caution, I always say.

If you don't want to invest in a coffee maker, just purchase a cup of brewed coffee from a nearby store/cafe.

It's funny b/c I do the coffee scrub and was using the coffee to rinse in my hair. I had no idea why as I'd never read about any coffee rinse, I just didn't want to waste the coffee (I don't drink coffee) and rinsing it in my hair seemed like a good idea. :lachen:

I need to spend more time in the hair boards.

I just finished spritzing my scalp with my coffee/nettle tonic. AAahhh, the tingle~ I'll do this day and night until I straighten. I'm looking for major progress from this.

I still am. I used filtered coffee, strong, and I do not rinse it out. No shedding and no breakage. My ends look the best they ever have and my layers are evening up again. This also gives me a more defined texture and more thickness than usual. Sometimes I throw in AVC, brewe horsetail, green tea and rosemary leaves, just to save on coffee, ha ha. But I love me some coffee rinse. It leaves my hair soft.

What else are you ladies noticing from your rinses?

I don’t do coffee rinse anymore. Now, I do tea rinse. But, I prefer coffee rinse.

I notice more shine with coffee rinse and it seems more effective : the hair is more vibrant and keeps the color.

Tea rinse is a little drying for the hair and no real color is added.

But if you have problem with your blood pressure, tea rinse could be better because there is less caffeine in tea.
Or, dilute the concentration in the case of coffee. I chose the tea, I did not want to keep coffee in my house.

My tea rinse : green tea, nettle and rosemary. I add one leaf of aloe vera gel (from the plant) and my hair is very happy : less frizz, more curls and easy to detangle.

i'm startng to mix them all, (some coffee, some herbs, some tea) and yes, keep it well diluted and just LOVE these rinses!

THANKS for all the info ladies! (got some brewing as i type!)
