Can I ask a dumb question? (Part II)

Did anyone ever use MEND conditioner, it was a white jar with blue letters.
Was it a cholesterol conditioner?
what do cholesterol conditioners do?

What is great about the product? I never really got what it was about/ why people like it.

It is a conditioning cleanser, not a shampoo - contains no SLS. It is gentle, moisturizing and can be used as a cleanser, a conditioner and a leave in - so it's a multitasking product too. As one of the WENites posted in another thread, the more you use it, the better it performs. :yep:

Whats the difference between ORS replenishing pak and ORS replenishing conditioner in the bottle?

The ingredients are the same; I prefer the pak because I tend to be heavy-handed with conditioners, so it provides portion control. Also, I like to add coconut oil to it, so it's easy to just pour the oil into the little packet. All of that, plus I have about 1, 524,234 paks to get rid of before I can justify buying a bottle

Are you talking about the stuff made by a company called Summit? I think they also make a leave in styling cream called LIV. (orange and white tub.)

I couldn't have explained it any better...perfect!

I have one: What are the various methods by which you can "airdry"?

I know about twist and braid outs, but are there any other ways to "air dry" without your hair coming out crazy? I pinned it up damp last night, tied a scarf around it and went to sleep. It was better than I expected this morning. Any other ways to not use heat (or rollers) and get decent results?

i've been holding these in for so long, thank you for making this thread !

1. how do i make the picture in my siggy smaller?
2. to those ladies who went from apl to bsl, how long did it take?
3. even though i press my hair all the time, i'm still natural right? i've never had a relaxer
4. i really, really, want to dye my hair a reddish/burgundy color, but i've been told it will take some of the shinyness of my hair away, plus its bad for my natural hair. true or no? i've also never dyed my hair before
5. how in the heck to i get my hair to 'fro' SERIOUSLY. i've never in my 20 years worn my natural hair out, and i really want to. when i wash my hair it just forms this awkard shape which frustrates me and i end up flat ironing.

i'm sure i'll think of more later...

How to make your siggy pic smaller: http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=337553

There's a thread that was started today asking about reaching BSL, and another for APL; they should be on the first couple of pages.

If you haven't chemically processed your hair, you are natural.

I don't do dye, so someone else will have to help you with that and the fro question.

Thanks Wheezy for replying, but I wanted to know how to post pictures not quotes. I just don't know how to put pictures in the body of a thread like for updates in challenges or to show a style that I achieved etc... Also, I wanted to know how to add multiple pictures to my signature to show growth achievement. Like how do I post one in six months without deleting the one that's already there?

Okay, maybe my question is SUPER dumb :ohwell:

But I know with as many of you who post pictures on this site, someone should be able to answer at least one part of my question....pleeze:sad:

:bump: TIA!

oooh ! one more question ! the answer is probably obvious BUT which is better...flat ironing with a ceramic (such as a chi) or the one the goes in the oven? assuming the person doing it is using the proper technique and heat protectant

In my opinoin, the electric, ceramic flat iron will be better. The temperature is controlled.

If you dont use cones or sulfates do you really need shampoo? Cant I just cowash???? How often would I need to shampoo and/or clarify if infact I need to?

1. how do i make the picture in my siggy smaller?

I do it with paint. Image>Stretch/Skew then put a number less than 100 in the stretch boxes

4. i really, really, want to dye my hair a reddish/burgundy color, but i've been told it will take some of the shinyness of my hair away, plus its bad for my natural hair. true or no? i've also never dyed my hair before

Dye is a chemical so it can definitely damage your hair and make it look dull. If you want to avoid this and still want reddish colored hair then I would recommend reading up about henna.

5. how in the heck to i get my hair to 'fro' SERIOUSLY. i've never in my 20 years worn my natural hair out, and i really want to. when i wash my hair it just forms this awkard shape which frustrates me and i end up flat ironing.

You won't be able to see your hair's potential to fro until you let it dry. Let it dry then brush/comb/pick it out. If it can fro, it will.

I add multiple pics to a thread by clicking on the little paper clip when posting. I add an image and then once I am writing the post I can click on the paperclip again and insert the attached image where I like. But this is only one way of doing it. You can also use insert image (the yellow button with the little mountain. Try playing around with it, you can always preview the post to see how it looks before posting.

I put more than one picture in my siggy by putting them all together (after resizing) side by side in paint and save it as a new image. You probaly have noticed a lot of ladies use pikistrips for multiple pics so you might wat to give that a try.

No you don't need to shampoo. Conditioners also contain surfactants (detergents) that can cleanse hair. Cowashing only can definitely cause buildup but how often you need to clarify is something that you will have to determine for yourself. When I don't want to be that attentive, I just add baking soda to my conditioner so that I can cowash and clarify at the same time. I have also been considering adding VO5 clarifying conditioner to my rotation...

What exactly does a hot oil treatment do?

Do I always have to seal with oil whenever I moisturize, is there another way that I can seal without oil? I just hate the way oil feels on my hair..

How much conditioner should I really be using? I sometimes feel like im wasting it by making sure every strand is covered. Do i really need that much?

Is breakage inevitable with a relaxer?

ETA: I know that natural can tell that they have heat damaged when their hair remains straight and doesn't revert back to its natural curl pattern, but how does a relaxed head know if they have heat damage?

I don't know the answer to this but when I don't know something, I do a Google search and this is what I found: http://www.essortment.com/lifestyle/hotoilhairtre_shmv.htm

You can seal with a serum, which are usually cones but when applied to damp hair, dry to just a smoothness, without the stickiness. Only problem is they are complete sealants so that you have to wash them off, usually with a clarifying shampoo, before you can moisturize your hair again.

Well, I believe you need to condition every strand, but I also believe you don't need oodles for that. I say you can use as little as is needed to coat each strand. Apply the very same way you'd apply a relaxer.

I don't think so. Sylver, Supergirl, Adrienne0194 are some relaxed heads that come to mind who don't seem to be suffering any breakage. You just need to learn what your hair needs to remain strong so it doesn't break.

I know very little about relaxed hair as I haven't made any effort to educate myself on hair I don't have, so I can't really answer this. But I imagine symptoms might be breakage, hard hair that doesn't respond to conditioning....but that's just a wild guess.

What exactly does a hot oil treatment do?

I use it as a pre-poo treatment and it helps me detangle my hair after I shampoo and condition. This is a must as I am 10 weeks post right now. Detangling can ruin your hair if done improperly and without caution.

I don't "seal" with oil either. I use NTM serum.

My hair feels more moisturized when I cover every stand. You don't have to do it if you get good results otherwise. It can be pricey when you do...

Is breakage inevitable with a relaxer?

I have learned how to avoid breakage because of this forum. It's not the relaxer that breaks your hair, its what you do or do not do in your daily maintenance that can cause problems. Everyday, I do something good for my hair whether it's moisturizing or DCs or protein, sometimes Henna, etc.
I think avoiding daily heat is helping too. But I do use it once a week not every day.

ETA: I know that natural can tell that they have heat damaged when their hair remains straight and doesn't revert back to its natural curl pattern, but how does a relaxed head know if they have heat damage?
You will know if you have heat damage if you see broken hairs and notice areas where the hair is gone/broken or looks extra frizzy, wirey, and dry.

I got some!!!!

1. What does that little gold trophy next to people's name mean
2. How do people pre-poo overnight? I've done it twice by applying oil, covering with shower cap then tyin scarf around but I I can never sleep because of the shower cap. Is there a better way that will allow me to sleep?

I believe the little trophy is because the people are champs at one game or other on the Arcade part of the forum.

There is a bonnet that has the plastic cap part sandwiched between satin which is a little more quiet that a cap. Saran wrap creates gives a tight wrap that may be quieter. A towel around your head but that just means laundry will be quite the headache. If you don't mind wearing hats or headwraps, why not do your prepoo treatments during the day. That way you don't have to worry about your sleep being interrupted.

My hair seems to like overnight prepoos, less tangle and breakage during my wash day. Im headed to the BX now so I'll search for that bonnet. Thanx Nonie
