I'm getting BRAIDS this weekend, and I would love a few braid buddies to share ideas and tips!

I got my MTG, my Surge, my Scurl and my Braid Spray. I am paying for the first set ($150), and then plan to re-braid myself every 2 months, or more often as needed.

If anyone is using braids exclusively to grow out thier hair, please join me. TIA

Hey girl! I'm on the C & G method and I'll be your buddy! I installed my first set of braids, this weekend will make it two weeks. GOod luck on the journey!:)

I will join I have been using braids the last 6 months to grow out my hair and it is working out great.
I use C&G Method with MTG,original Surge,Better Braids Spray or African Pride with Peppermint Spray along with Infusium 23 leave in.
I will continue this regimen in 2006.

Welcome Alli77 and Labett!

I am excited to wear braids again! I grew out my hair to armpit length years ago by wearing braids for an entire year.

Now that I'm learning such great tips form LHCF, I know that I can get even better results this time.

Alli77- What style/type of braids do you have?

Labett- How much length have you gained so far in 6 months?

I get small individuals (slightly bigger than micros) with human hair.

Thanks Ladies, ;)

Hey girls I am joining in also I am getting my hair braided this weekend and plan to wear braids until this time next year getting them redone every 2 months I am on a MISSION.....I am going to buy me 2 more bottles of MTG just to keep my stock up and I will be on my WAY.........

I don't have individual braids (box braids) as I take it you have --- do cornrows count :(? I'm keeping my whole head cornrowed from now until April to protect my ends.

lovelymissyoli.....I would say braids is braids as long as none of your hair is being touched that is a cute style you have in you signature. What is your regimen with yours braids and how ofter are you getting them done?

I haven’t perfected a regimen, but I do wash at least 2X a week with diluted conditioner and spray on Stay Sof Fro, Kemi Oil Moisturizer, or my concoction of natural oils spray once a day --- preferably after I wash. I don’t Surge anymore but I’m considering picking up a bottle since I had great results from it when I used it last year (aprx. 1-2 inches). Also, I’ve been trying to re-grow my temples from having them braided too tight and too small years ago with individual braids so I also use a Temple & Nape balm on my temples and some areas in the front which I think need thickening up.

I usually try to keep my hair braided for 3 weeks, sometimes four, and then I get it re-braided into a different style. I’m no longer getting just the front of my hair cornrowed, but I’m getting the whole thing done now. I'm trying to protect my ends, and since the weather is starting to cool, and we already have dry air to begin with, I need to focus on retaining length at my ends. I plan to check my progress in April, so until then, I’m keeping it braided up!

I braid my own hair and have had my hair braided for the past 4months with 2week breaks in between every 2months. I was planning on stretching my relaxer until Christmas this way but I have been toying with the idea of keeping my hair braided until March next year.

I wash my braids once a week, use my braid spray mixture every other day and use MTG about 3times a week.
I managed to get my hair to BSL using braids in 2003 and that was before I knew the CAG method existed. Unfortunately, I didnt know how to care for my hair properly and it eventually broke off.

Hi! Can I join? I am currently braided up (first time in years) and plan on continuing until spring of next year. I am loving my style. I'm MTGing 1-2 times a week, but I can only wash every 3-4 weeks, when I take them out and rebraid. Hopefully this won't put me at a disadvantage. I want to protect my hair during this harsh winter!

HEY, i'll be ur braid buddy also, i have senegalese twists in now that i got when i was in philly a few weeks ago, as we speak i'm pre-pooing (is that a word?)

I defintely think cornrows count as a BRAIDED style- so Lovelymissyoli, your cute cornrowed-self is welcomed to join.

C & G method sounds great - but I plan to continue using the products that I know works for me (MTG and Surge).

:D 8 strong and couting....Welcome everyone!

CiaJcanBabi,

What are senegalese twists? Do you have to do anything special (compared to regular braids or cornrows) to care for them?

TIA :)

I am definately with you. It'll be nice to have some positive support~ I've been in braids since May of 2005. I rebraid whenever I notice they need to be redone. I use braid spray, Surge, Infusium. Sometimes I use MTG after I wash which is every 1.5 weeks. I don't use MTG when I don't want to smell. I rub Herbal Essence conditioner through the bottom of my braids to add a good scent.

Cute twists in your siggy. Actually I have twists too, but with added extentions :)

Right now I'm rocking twist extensions with curly ends. I plan on keeping them for about 1 1/2 to 2 months. I may even refresh sections so that I can keep the twists in longer. I spray with my braid spray cocktail of MTG, Sta-Sof-Fro, essential oils, olive oil, and strengthener like infusium. I do so 2x a day and I wash with diluted shampoo once a week.

no nothing special, there just twists rather than plaits, i like because they are much easier to take out when i'm ready to get them out, i try to DC atleast once a week, and i just started using the MTG, don't know if it's helping yet as i'm only two weeks in and i've only used it a few times, got some lavender oil to mix it with today to dampen the smell

mine are extentions also, i had a mishap with the hairdresser, she decided she needed to cut my hair and by the time she understood i didn't want it cut she'd already started (this is one reason why i don't like going to dominican salons, no hable ingles) so it came out weird and i got twists the next day if not the same day

I would love to participate in this challenge. I've had my braids in since the end of October. I would like to get them redone before Christmas but, I need to find a braider in NYC. If anyone knows of a good one that doesn't do them too tight let me know. I would love to learn to do them myself since I'm using them to grow out my relaxer.

Does anyone have any other style suggestions other than braids to the back, tyzillions, or kinky twist. I am going today to get my hair braided but I really don't want any of the styles I just mentioned.......I just want something different.

i join i m currently out of braids and will get cornrows next friday for 2 months dec and january and then will continue the c& g method and baggy method on top of my braids to keep the moisture in :)

I got my hair braided! :D They are a blended black and brown color - that I LOVE! Here are the pics:

My temples are extremely thin right now due to a person braiding my hair so tight that my scalp was so swollen that you could see that my pores in my scalp. Of course when I took out the braids so went my hair...

I was wondering which type of braids I should get so it doesn't stress the temple hairs so they can grow??? My hair is natural (3.5 inches) and I notice that my hair frizzes in braids now that I am totally natural.

Hi Wicky,

I get the most fizz with cornrows. Also, it may depend on the type of products you use - water based products will give natural hair more curl. I also avoid blow drying my natural hair before hand, so that the braider can see my real "natural" texture.

Good luck! :)

I have a girlfriend who says that she NEVER washed her braids for the entire time that she have them in -- 3 to 4 months! She just oiled her scalp weekly.

Does anybody else do this? If so, how.

I can't imaging not cleaning my scalp for long. :perplexed

Well to each is own but I would never try this, my hair would break off because of the build up and my scalp would itch somethum fierce!

I've been wearing braids since Oct. 12, 2004. I didn't measure my hair when I started so I don't know how much it's grown...but it's a lot. I'm taking a set of Senegalese twists out now and I plan to measure and keep up with the progress from now on.

I usually keep my braids in for 2 1/2 months. I know that's too long and I plan to replace them more frequently after I learn how to do them myself. I just bought the Braids by Breslin Video...so I hope it's good.

I wash once a week with diluted Mane-N-Tale shampoo, use Infusium (Moisturizing formula) as a leave-in, spray with African Pride Peppermint & Tea Tree Oil Braid Spray daily, and apply MTG every other day. So far it's been working for me...but I'm think of doing buns next year instead of braids. I still haven't decided....

I'm in braids now I have some human hair individuals wet and wavy. Following a modified C&G method with Mtg.

I'd like to join. I just conrowed my hair on Saturday. I'm trying to give my hair a break from ME! I hate washing my hair while it's braided, so I always start with a clean scalp. I use sulfur 8 braid spray and scalp conditioner when needed. I'll probably keep them in for 2 weeks then wash and redo.

I'll join. I put braids in for the winter at the beginning of November. So it's almost 1 month. I paid so much for these I plan to keep them for 2 more months unless they get totally unruly. I will get my edges redone. I've been washing once a week with (Nioxin or Nizoral) no major frizz or itchies either. I posted my routine in the winter care regimine thread.

For wicky2828: I would get synthetic hair (Kanekalon). Natural hair will fuzz through human hair braids (especially after washing them). I tried that before and it was a mess! I washed them and it was so funny with the bush sticking out of the wet and wavy hair . Luckily that time my cousin did the human braids for me and I didn't lose much money.
