Bad word

growing up "nappy" was another n-word we were never allowed to say. I find it offensive .It just sounds negative. That, and it was associated with only black people. My understanding of nappy was notty, tangled, matted hot ghetto mess and black people are NOT the only ones whose hair can get like that so I never liked the term. I've never liked the people who used it either they were always the ignorant hoodrats or openly racist people I knew.

Aaaand my hair is almost never tangled so for ppl to assume my hair was a tangled knotty mess just because its curly frustrated me.

I respect people's experiences and do not use the word to describe other people's hair, unless I know they're okay with it. Thankfully, I grew up in an environment that used "nappy" objectively or positively and that valued the texture associated with "nappy".

I love being nappy.

On one of my post i described as nappy and seemed like i said a bad word. People were like " no its kinky", and they hate that term when it comes to natural. I've been natural for two years and im still learning everything about my hair, and i must admit some things said about my i didnt like being said. Does anything said about hair give you a bad taste in your mouth? Do you agree with certain terms?let me know

i find that ppl (especially here) take offense to EVERYTHING

it's ridiculous and u just cant win

i refer to my own hair as nappy because its the perfect description and others as well (if it fits)

i like the word nappy.....i refer to my hair as nappy which seem to offend anyone within listening range.... some people apparently feel that due to the texture of my hair i have no claim to the word...i would love to have the offended individual try to comb my hair without a ton of hair conditioner and water and see what i am really working with...nappy? yes i am!
