Asking for certain amounts of $$$

So I went to a conference the other day and the pastor asked for 20+ people to make a $100 seed. I was like :perplexed: and gave a few coins. I typically do not carry a lot of cash on me, but oh well. Anyway, that bothered me and I want to know where in Bible does it state this action is okay. I know all about paying your tithes and offerings, but answers, please.

Bumping for you. I do not care for when pastors do this. I went to one church and the pastor kept on saying. $20 I have a $20 can I get a $50. I mean :nono:.

Always 'Follow Your Heart' and what the Holy Spirit is saying to you about giving.

That's 'all' anyone can do. Even when we're out shopping and we see a price on an item of purchase, STILL follow your heart.

Sometimes Ministers have a budget to meet and they are asking those who can 'contribute' a certain dollar amount. I'm not advocating this method, for I believe that we just 'Trust God' to lay upon the hearts of the people to give what 'God' is asking them to give and not man.

However, I 'do' believe that there are times when the Lord will lay a certain dollar amount on the hearts of those asking and upon the hearts of those giving. When this is so, the 'persons' that God has spoken to, will follow up with it. There are no questions 'asked'. It's all about learning and knowing the voice of God and being a peace with it.

Let God be the one who leads you in giving and don't allow the enemy to come in and steal the word from you when someone takes up an offering. Because right now, the only thing that will be on your mind when you leave the service is, 'the way that man (or woman) asked 'us' for money. Everything else has been lost. That's how satan works to rob you of your spiritual blessings. he gets you off focus from the words of healing and refreshment and has you focused on a $100 offering instead.

The bottomline is that we have to know the voice of God for ourselves in all areas of our lives and ignore the real thief which is satan.

I frown upon this as well :perplexed. I'm fortunate that my old pastor did not play these types of games. However, I think it will be received better if pastors tell their congregation what the specific dollar amount is for. Example; building fund, missionary trip, scholarships, single mothers....etc. I would not mind giving if that was the case.

Good point! If I didn't hear from God that that I'm one of the folks asked, I'll give what's he's put on my heart to give. It's all about the voice of God and obeying it.

I am on the fence. I don't agree with the pastor doing that but honestly I can't help but see who puts what in while the basket is coming down the pew and people putting in three dollars a dollar and change and no tithes. Knowing a little about what goes on in the background its a shame. church filled but collected about 150.00. Can't pay the gas bill, the lights. pay the gardner or for the flowers and various other things. I can imagine how hard it is for church leaders. Some are greedy yes thats true. But some aren't and really need to pay staff and keep air or gas on. It something and one of the reasons while some have to beg. I agree God does provide but I have seen people dressed to the 9's and forgive me but I realy don't know what that means ( I say dress to Kill) but somehow that doesn't seem spiritual to me. But dressed up and put in a dollar. Drive a Caddy. I mean! I know this my dad got the bills and they should have gone to the church but when you live in the parsonage people know where to go to get their money.

This used to bother to me. But after reading a few books and meditating. I have some light on it. I should always be led in such times of inpromptu request for offering. Because if it is the Spirit moving, he is doing it for specific people. And if I dont feel led, I wont give. I used to feel guilty about it, but now I have more understanding on it. If am not led, I dont go forward.

This is because I realize that bible teaches that giving should be intentional, with purpose, with cheerfulness and not of necessity. Its out of love for God or to provoke some blessings. Besides somewhere in Psalms it says, If God were hungry or needed anything, he will not tell me because the cattle on a thousand hills are his.
Even if I refuse to give, his work will still prosper.

Some of them sound like they are at an auction. I give what I can and when I hear the begging and pleading it's time to go.

My home church put an end to asking for certian amounts of money during service. If there is a shortfall with the bills, the deacons, trustees and the pastor get together and handle it. Granted, this is a very small family church with less than 100 members. There are also a lot of seniors who are on fixed income so pushing for more money is wasted talk. Even though most of us who have moved away send money back, they still need financial help.

I don't have a problem with the request or giving what I have. It's the "begging" that some pastors do that irks me. I also don't see the point in singling out the dollar amounts. That reminds me of what the Word says about praying or fasting in public to get the attention of those around you. The moment you have someone's attention is the only glory that comes from it.
