April 2016: Hits & Misses

@naturalyogini
Whew Lawd I'm so glad I didn't get this.:eek:

I had it in a Sally Cart this weekend and kept debating if I really even wanted any Mielle? :look:

It just isn't something I get overly excited about, but was going to pick up this item and a couple DC'ers.

So Happeh I didn't.:nono:
Yeah, I have a drop of the dc left and I won't be repurchasing that. It has the same ingredients as Brown butter beauty babassu and has the same affect on my hair...squeaky, clarified hair. This line is a total bust for me.

HIT: Hairveda Red Tea Conditioner as a rinse out/leave-in conditioner.

I was in the shower rinsing it out like,
tumblr_inline_myfzw44Ek01rav2eh_zps6a4cfba5.gif
!

My hair felt so silky, so soft, so smoove, without a tangle in sight. When my hair dried, I had much more "hang time" and my curls and coils were stretched into waves. I used the Red Tea for my twist-out and my hair was wavier than usual, too.

So on my 4a hair, this is the comparison between Moisture 24/7 and the Red Tea Conditioners:

  • Moisture 24/7: leaves my hair detangled, soft, and makes my curls POP! I mean, curls just springing up all over my head! It makes my twist-out SUPER curly-coily-twisty, too.
  • Red Tea Conditioner: leaves my hair detangled, soft, smooth and silky. It stretches my curls into waves, if that makes sense. I also think the tea in this is helping to correct my high porosity issues. I notice that my entire head doesn't completely dry in like 30 seconds once it gets wet!
I LOVE how both of them perform and I'm fine with either one: although, I do think the Red Tea is "heavier" in a sense and would make a nice DC, too. I'm not sure Moisture 24/7 would be a good DC but I plan to find out really soon.

All in all, BJ done did it again!

MISS: the scent of the Red Tea Conditioner.

It's not kind to my sinuses. I plan to email Hairveda and ask if it's possible to get some of the products unscented, particularly the products I use as leave-ins. Moisture 24/7 is generally fine but the Red Tea kinda gives me a headache, especially at night...

@JulietWhiskey
I Agree with you about the scent.

I loved the performance of the Red Tea Lotion, but couldn't deal with the scent.

At least with the Conditioner I'm using it as a R/O and the scent doesn't linger, but I absolutely could not "do" the Hair Lotion. Period. Although I loved the performance.

Now I can't wait for you to get MoistPRO. You will find it a similar weight as Moist 24/7 and pleasantly scented.

Oh dang, I just bought the Mielle Organics DC and wasn't moved to try anything else from the line. Hopefully the DC is not a bust but won't be suprised if it is.

@flyygirlll2
I hope it isn't a bust for you either Sis. :hug2:

I actually liked it. But not sure if I liked it enough to make it a Staple in my Stash? I'd buy it again (I think).:look:

It is like a Lemongrass and Mint Tea (like one of those Celestial Seasonings Teas).

And surprisingly, it did not irritate my Scalp like Brown Butter Beauty's Babbasu.:mwahahafire:

POSSIBLE MISS

I don't want to dismiss them so soon but I'm not feeling the Mielle Organics second/third day hair. On Monday I did the back 1/3 of my hair using the Detangling Co-Wash, Mint Almond Oil and Avocado Hair Milk. Well the initial impression was good. These products didn't wow me but they weren't terrible either. Today the back of my head feels like an old, dry, rusty Brillo pad. I seriously hope this experience is due to the lack of conditioners in this CurlBox, but as of now I'm not happy. Also the initial fragrance of the Mint Almond Oil was Peppermint Bark or York Peppermint Patty (though there's no chocolate ingredient). Second day hair however smelled like straight toothpaste, thankfully it dissipated.
My hair only likes the DC and cowash. I can't do anything with the rest of the line.

@JulietWhiskey

Are you waiting on another HV order? I still haven't received my 1st order.:look:

But I added on, double paid, messed up:spinning: - so it's all my fault this 1st order has taken so long.:angry2:

I have x2 more orders on the way but all 3 have shipped and are enroute.

Yep, I'm waiting on the MoistPRO which should be here tomorrow or Friday, I can't remember which day. But I know my order has shipped.

HOORAY!

Hit: Pure Oils by Silk Elements Intense Conditioning Hydrating Masque
Staple level. I've been using as a dc, and as a leave in. I love it. Plus the price is right , especially for 12 ozs of product. Ipaid 7.99. It's been about a month of continued usage, and I love it. Now if I can be consistent, I can reap the full benefits. Pure moisture :yep:

NEW HIT:
Hairveda Gellicious - my waves stay popping with this stuff.

I slather on a good amount of it at night to smooth and sleek my hair. By morning, it's absorbed into the hair nicely with a soft hold with little to no frizz.

MISS:
Not buying Gellicious during HV sale.

Hits
  • APB Creamy Hair Pudding - This thing detangles and leaves my hair feeling so soooo good!
  • Sally's Hair Chemist Macadamia Oil Deep Repair Masque - This used to be my one true love until I noticed it wasn't working like it used to. Come to find out, they have changed the formula on me. After buying two, I noticed how one was of a creamier consistency while the other smelled badly and left my hair feeling horrible. I've emailed them and I pray to God they aren't changing the formula! This was my holy grail! And it was affordable and convenient to find on the ground.
  • Ion Hard Water Shampoo - I like that this product wasn't as stripping as many other clarifying shampoos, which often have the tendency to leave my hair a matted mess and feeling like straw. I also think this might have contributed to my hair being so shiny! The hard water might have really been leaving my hair looking dull.
  • Shingling method - I thought because of my heat damage, I wouldn't be able to wear my hair in a curly puff again but I figured out how to get my hair to curl again through finger shingling! Yay!

I'm gonna wait for a Sally's sale and grab a Mielle DC and Leave-in. I have a feeling that I may regret it but I can't shake the idea that my horrible results were due to lack of sufficient conditioning. But now that I have sooo many goodies I'm in no rush to buy more Mielle products.

I've always wanted to try BBB Babassu DC and Leave-in but the $$ has my cart stalled. I love tingly products so that DC may be right up my alley. (Why does this phrase suddenly sound so wrong?) Anyway I'd have to catch a really good sale to ever check out.

I also need to re-up on Jakeala Honey Sweet Thang, Beau Vert and try the Dope and the Flax Mallow DC.

Trader joes tea tree tingle is my new bae:2inlove:
I used it last night as a Cowash yesterday on its own alleviate my dry flaky scalp (thank you jersey city water! ) and it did just that!
My scalp feels so fresh and moisturized and the flakes are completely gone! My shampoo can't even do that. I may just Cowash weekly now and clarify a little more often. The tea tree in this is strong!

Hit: Design Essentials coconut & monoi curl enhancing dual hydration milk. Very light and moisturizing. I've used it on dry and damp hair and it's worked great both ways. Breathes life back into my dry crusty roller sets for an end of the week bun. Also makes a good detangler on damp hair.

Miss: The scent. All I smell is alcohol. :nono:

I mixed the Gellicious, the red tea leave in and the cocosta oil together and made a curl pudding. It was excellent. Good hold, soft, moisturizing and no flakes!

Thanks for this review. It's on my list of things to buy this year :yep:

@JulietWhiskey
Please come back with your review!:up:

Girl, I got you!

I'm clarifying tonight in preparation for my Megatek/Sitranillah DC tomorrow so I'm trying to decide if I will use the Red Tea or the MoistPRO after my shampoo. I feel like my hair needs a protein boost so I'm 75% certain it will be the MoistPRO but I'm curious to see how the Red Tea performs after a good clarifying shampoo since I already know the Moist 24/7 is bananas.

Ah, the dilemma of a product junkie!
