Apl\bsb 2019 Challenge

I've decided that I will be washing my hair tomorrow.

My regimen:

-Prepooing with Coconut oil and AVG
-Nairobi Detox Shampoo
-Olaplex #1 followed by #2
-Olaplex Shampoo
-Protein DC - Affirm 5 in 1 Reconstructor
-Moisture DC with Nairobi Humecta-Sil DC (maybe Olaplex Shampoo again - not sure
-Leave-in with SSI Green Tea and Coconut leave-in
-M/S with QB BRBC and BM Grease.

it was a bit risky to add something new in my regimen at a point I consider the most common set back point, but i did it in effort to find something to strengthen my hair and help me to retain. i could have used an aphogee 2-step treatment. i could have added in weekly cholesterol (which I may still do), but I tried henna. it was fine! it was not half as messy as I thought it was going to be. also, i didn't have dry hair in the least bit. so, i'm keeping it. i made more this week for next week.

i hope to get to a point where i do not have broken little o's. i have put my shea butter blend on the ends after spraying with water/aloe/glycerin. it looks great today in my bun. i hope i keep it up!

Midweek wash day.

Detangling- I was actually raking through my hair and then tearing each section away. No wonder it has been breaking. I was more careful after I noticed myself doing that.

Shikakai as a shampoo - fail. It's like washing with little pebbles. It's stripping. It was awful to me. I did a section with it, but washed that out with my trader Joe's shampoo (stash)

Dc - My dc today is Joico K-pak (stash)

I'm not sure if I should just throw out my hair products with chemicals or whether I should use them up.

If they are working fine with your hair just use them. Some of these natural products can be just a bad. Find a good balance.

Aww what a sweet response :) :) :) They seem to be working pretty well for me, so I could calm down about it. I really wish we didn't have so many chemicals in our lives, but... one day.

This weekend my regimen is:

-Prepoo with EVCO and AVJ
-Shampoo with FC Baba de Caracol Shampoo
-Protein DC with FC Castor Cayena (very mild protein)
-Moisture DC with FC Baba de Caracol Treatment
-Leave-in with SSI Papaya Hair Misture Leave-in
-Moisturize with Dudley's PCA Retainer (not sure if I'm heavy sealing yet but if I do I will use BM Grease).

Friday evening: Henna on. It was pretty thick this week but still oil and henna mixed with conditioner. I hope to use this same batch again next week

Monday morning: Cowashed with a conditioner I want to get rid of from my stash. - carols daughter rassoul clay. Applied shea butter mix, "24k." I twisted it in a bun.

Tuesday evening: applied kpak. I plan to rinse it out and blow dry tomorrow.

Wednesday morning: never blow dry without the comb attachment and why even blow dry. It would have been better if I did a cowash and plait to stretch it. Instead I got frustrated and combed through my now dry kinky ends

I'll have my hair out the entire summer in out styles. I probably wont go back into protective styles until it gets cold in NJ. Usually around October/November.

So my next update length wise wont be until then. might be good, might be bad but I'm at the point where I want to enjoy my hair and stop worrying about length.

I'm starting to feel like this right here but I like my wigs so much. I do want to start coloring as well but too chicken to bleach my natural hair at the moment. It's a little tough for me to do but colored wigs are making me feel great for now. I'll just stick to them for the time being..

I am unfortunately not quite here. I am very anxious about whether or not I will ever be able to keep hair on my head in order to make it even to arm pit length let alone past it. In an effort to look decent, I do want to wear it in a style instead of ignoring it under a wig as I did last year.

i will be taking these crochet braids out this weekend, but i'm not sure if i wanna do a ponytail/bun or back to my half wig

I have a real routine now. I finished my henna for the week. Now I need to apply some aloe water and shea. That's it for care.

I'm going to let it dry today. No silly, damaging, waste of energy blow dry for me. I much prefer to air dry. Then I'll consider some sort of style.

I do want to get around to making neat parts that I can reuse. I want like diamond shaped ones

A month into this hair growth journey and I have been successful in retaining length and have lessened the hair fall out. I'm noticing a more normal amount of shed hairs and hardly any breakage. No more clumps of hair in the shower!

Buuutttt
single-strand-knots are still a problem. I trimmed my hair in June getting rid of most of the SSKs but come wash day after taking down the twists and they were back. I have to find a way to keep the ends stretched. Maybe keep my hair in jumbo twists, band the ends somehow, or don't take the twists down until after I've finished washing my hair... not sure yet. Will try one of those methods at the end of the month when its time for take down.

Sealing with whipped Shea butter has helped me cut down on knots

I keep seeing ladies on Youtube using shea butter on their ends. That could be the missing piece.

For the past month, I too have been using Shea butter on my ends. I think it is the trick. I still have some old knots, but they do not seem to be tangling with the other hair. I'll have to wait until after my next trim to be sure it is helping curb the crazy end issue I was having, but I definitely believe it is.

This morning I:

Shampooed with Follicle Care Almond and Honey Protein shampoo followed by
Moisturizinf Shampoo with Follicle Care Castor Argan Shampoo
Protein DC with Follicle Care Castor Cayena

Have to complete my session with:

Moisture DC with Follicle Care Coco Rose Moisturizing DC
Moisturize with QB BRBC and SSI Papaya Leave-in Combo
Style - Big plaits under a wig for the week.

Despite a couple of trims, I'm sure I've retained some length this spring/summer. The last time I posted I was barely past collarbone length and now I'm about an inch or so past, with the back only half my thumb's length away from APL. It's hard for me to take pics of myself from the back, so here's one from the front of my shoulder. I'll also have the earlier pic (from December 2018) here too for reference:

Decided to color my hair with henna today. Also using my Olaplex system to strengthen and repair. Plus a whole hair regimen today.

Today I'm:

-Prepooed with my diy fenugreek rinse and Heritage Castor oil
-Shampooing with Nairobi Detox Shampoo
-Color with henna and Olaplex #1 mixed together
-Conditioner with Olaplex #2 for 20 minutes
-Shampoo with Olaplex #4
-Protein DC with Follicle Care Cayena Wood
-Moisture DC with Follicle Care Baba de Caracol
-Leave-in with Mielle Organics Pomegranate & Honey Leave-in
-Moisturize with QB BRBC and QB OHHB

Braided up my twists into 5 cornrows. Will see how long this lasts, hopefully a week. My hair is doing okay despite being on vacation in a location with really hard water and dry heat. I've had to moisturize and seal my hair everyday if not twice a day. So far haven't noticed any tangling.
Also my hair is back to where it left off before the trim in May. So close to APL its kinda annoying. lol

Me and my mini braids are mousing along. Still cowashing daily with a once a week shampoo and deep conditioner. Not sure when I'm taking them down as they are holding a bit steadier than the last set.

Also have come to terms with the fact that I may have to wear some added hair for a bit to get me past the below SL hump. I'm retaining length okay, but I know it would be even better if I could really get my ends tucked away regularly. I can get some of my mini braids in a bun, but not all of them. And I can tell the exposure is drying my ends out some. I purchased a kinky curly phony pony but it doesn't look right to me. I may make my own with some marley hair or something. Or make a big braid with some kankelon hair. We'll see.

Had to take the cornrows out yesterday in order to cowash and do a quick dc. I sealed my ends with Shea butter and my hair is still moisturized a day later.

I forgot I made an appt for August 3 a few months ago. I'll be going into crochet. :drunk:
