Apl\bsb 2019 Challenge

I straightened and trimmed yesterday and I'm so happy with how my hair looks!! It's not a smidge longer but I'm happy with how it looks at this length.

Beautiful hair. It is ready for more length with those healthy ends!

I cancelled my Friday hair appointment because I am going to straighten it on my own and try to go through in very small sections to catch as many knots and splits as humanly possible. It will take forever, so I will need to do it either late Friday or Saturday

I'm staying in the thread but I know I won't make APL by the end of the year. I recently did a trim and then tried on a APL wig and my hair is not nearly that long.

I got my color Tuesday. It was too cold yesterday. I thought about it today. I guess I'm putting it off until tomorrow. I wanted it done for a weekend event. I'm just not feeling it :lol:Maybe if I get a spark of something later tonight I will start.

I finally got smart . I bought a pack of crochet twists and added them to my flat twists. I used to use Marley hair which was messy and time consuming. This was so much easier.

I'm hoping I can keep my flat twist on 2 weeks with this. If so I can do my own installs instead of going to the braided. It will save me $45 and 2.5 hours of my life.

It's freezing! And I love the crochet twist idea. I also use Marley with my hairstyles.. I'm going to need to be more careful with my ends. Nearly every strand has a knot. I'm hoping weekly henna gloss works

@faithVA The pattern you did for your flattwists is very cool! It looks completely natural with the added hair.

I've been wearing my hair straightened and down for like 3.5 weeks, even through this cold GA weather. I'm on the fence on whether I'm going to do a flattwist out on wet hair, a perm rod set or flatiron it again. I want to look good for this upcoming Sunday, but I want to do my hair soon. I could also do a bantu knotout on wet hair! That comes out really pretty and it's easy to redo.

Thank You.

Sounds like you are having fun with your straight hair.

I am, but I'm getting a little tired of the wrap look LOL!! I think I want to wash more often, but I don't want to do something stupid and jack up my ends when I finally have them looking right.

I believe that if I use oil next year, I will make my hair goals. I have not been sealing or using oil at all since I didn't know why hair needed oil. I used it in the past but didn't think of it as extremely important. I didn't know what oil really did for hair and I thought I could just keep moisurizing. I have learned after reading a few things about it. I'm interested in seeing how things will grow from here

Do you have a plan for how you will use it?

Thanks! I'll keep it in mind. Have you noticed pros of this method over other methods?

Today's update: so, I never got around to straightening my entire head. Today, after detangling, I just cut the ends chunky and unstretched (not wet). Years ago, I told myself not to cut my hair without straightening because it cuts a ton more than it looks like (one curl with my shrinkage is basically like an inch of hair), but that was the intention this time. I wanted to just cut as much as it seemed necessary without thinking of length. I think the job was well done. I'm confident I'm going to have a much better time retaining length now

My hair is low porosity and super dry so this does help me. Typically oil in any other stage does absolutely nothing for my hair. I found I keep more moisture in when I add the oil and then conditioner and then rinse. If I add the oil after I rinse my hair is just greasy. I haven't noticed prepooing does much for me once I got a good shampoo. I bought some Mane Magic and its the only oil I will use after I style my hair. It doesn't make my hair greasy or build up.

Not sure what to say about your trim today  But if you are happy, I'm happy.

It's ironic, but every time I do a non-heat style I have to worry about my ends getting jacked up. My hair's been kinda cute, but not worth risking tangles and ssks. And my straight hair is so dang predictable!

I think my hair is the same way. I haven't tried doing just straight styles but I have a feeling my ends will fair better. For the past two weeks I have been blow drying just to stretch my ends. In 2020 I plan to do this regularly for a quarter to see if it makes a difference. It takes longer for me to do blow dried styles versus wet styles but I need to bite the bullet and see.

Who has or is planning to graduate this challenge this year?

Who is hanging out with me in 2020? I will be here in 2020.

I doubt that I reached APL and if I did I'm just grazing a few strands in the back.

Will you be making a new thread?

I went in for a trim yesterday--turned into a cut. Went from MBL to probably just past shoulder (it was cut dry and I haven't had the nerve to wet it yet).

I was up most of the night and just had my second cry of the day. I came to the forum to see if the new challenges were up yet. I really need the support of the LHCF community right now.

Yes. I usually make a new thread early December. I may get eager and do it after Thanksgiving. I will post in this thread when the new thread is up.

I'm sorry to hear that. Glad to have you join us but sorry it is under these circumstances.

Hang in here with us for right now.

Maybe it won't take you that long to get back to where you were.

You have mine. I just had a major setback. Which of course I wish didn't happen, but I do appreciate the lesson it taught me.

It's a huge gap between APL and BSB/BSL (same measurement on me) so I'll still be here next year. I haven't even checked because it's such a discouraging milestone, but I figure I could make it around spring 2020 if I don't do any unscheduled trims.
I feel you on this!! Spring isn't that far away though! I hope to make it to BSL by June 2020. We're all be growing together :p

Dang that sucks! I'm sorry that this happened. I don't know if you have wet your hair yet, but hopefully you have more length left than you think
