Because I see the great results Sylver2 has had with it. I started doing that since last year. I have to admit their is a visible difference in my hair. Its thicker and healthier. Im now on my 3rd 6 month stretch. I relaxed in July and my next relaxer is not until January 2009.

We are on the same schedule!! :yep: Cant wait till January... I miss feeling my scalp:spinning::drunk::lachen:

I REALLY wish I could do this, but the way my hair is coarse, it's not an option.

maybe, just maybe with some msm I could do it.

I plan to do it this year, I'm usually a 4 monther, but I plan to visit sylver2's album often to get me through :yep:.

I'm down to 3 times a year now. This is amazing considering I used to go to the salon and get monthly relaxers!

I might try to get down to 2 times a year....maybe.....

Re: Anyone Here Relax Only Twice a Year?

I think I am going to start doing this with the help of someone. I'm not lazy but I just don't feel like going through all of that every three or four months and you know stylists these days can't really be trusted not even considering the fact that they try to charge an "arm and leg" since they consider anything over an inch to be a virgin relaxer.

Anyone only relax twice a year? I am just doing this to get to my goal but once I get there I think I will strech to every four months.

Thanks

ETA: Use of homonyms hear vs. here.

I wouldn't mind having a stretch buddy if anyone's up to it. I usually stretch for 6 months, relax, then 3 months, relax, plus another 3 months before I relax again. I start this pattern all over again for the next year. Now I just want to stretch every 6 months consistently. Chicacanella, if you're looking for a 6 month-stretch buddy, I'm very interested. If anyone else is interested, just PM me. I'm currently 2 months post. Stretching is such a mental endurance test lol.

Also, I feel like there should be a new long-term stretch challenge thread for 2011/2012.

So far that's me! I do it every 7 to 6 months.... Don't want to re-relax already processed hair...

Sent from my PC36100 using PC36100

Maybe when my hair gets longer I can try this....I don't like big hair and I just envision style mayhem trying to go that long. How do those who do style their hair, any pics?

Old post I know...

but my hair was doing better/thicker when I was relaxed every 6 months... I am gonna add that back in my regimen.

I'm going to do this because I'd like to transition to texlaxed. After I do this, I may just stretch a whole year to see if I could do it.

I do or I should say I will be from now on. I am seriously considering a long term transition. I am managing pretty well in this 23 week stretch.

Im natural but when I use to relax it was only twice a year it was normal for me. I never got touch ups or anything like that. Sometimes I did it once a year as well.

i didn't even realize that for this year i've only relaxed twice. Once in may and again in november. wow

If you're thinking about it, do it. I don't exceed three relaxers in a year. Natural ain't for me :look: :duck: but neither is lifeless relaxed hair. I've found my happy medium.

Yep I just started doing this this year I stretched from october to june to get started and I'm waiting til Dec for relaxer #2. that way I have one in the middle of the year and at the end of the year.

I think @shtow does this too.

I wish I could but I currently relax every 3-4 months. I could probably go 6 but even at 3 months post it takes double the time to flat iron my hair and I'm lazy lol

I've always wanted my stylist to be able to clearly see the new growth before relaxing and for me that's at the 3-4 month mark. I haven't had any over processing issues since starting this years ago.

I want to do this but don't know how to manage the new growth in between then unless I decide to wear wigs. Recently I had thought about getting a sew-in weave but the hair stylist told me it would probably take some of my hair out because she says my hair volume is dense but fine.. which i always thought my hair was dense and thick. I hate getting relaxers but do not want to go 100% natural yet. This same stylist told me that she only relaxes once a year and has shoulder length hair but tends to wear wigs.

Yes, I used to be a once a year girl, but not anymore..my last relaxer was April and my next one will be in November/December. During that time, I get deep conditions, blow outs, protein treatments and that leaves my hair straight as well

I relax 2x a year now. I started doing this about 2 years ago and its worked out well for me. I relax right before Xmas and at the beginning of June. This was a big change for me since i had been relaxing since i was 12 and religiously touched up every 8 weeks. My hair is in better shape. I do admire those that gave up relaxing all together, not sure thats for me yet.

How do you wear your hair when it it close to the 6 month period

if its summer its just a french twist or bun, cause its too hot for me to fool around with setting and blow drying, but in the fall, winter, early spring, i have a good blow dryer (twin turbo) that i use to blow out my roots and it really does the trick, my roots get perfectly straight. I will say since i have been doing this my hair is the longest its ever been, Im approximately 1 inch passed my bra strap. I also think eliminating products with sulfates helped. Also, the Lineage relaxer is the best relaxer i ever used, the neutralizing conditioner is amazing.
