Anyone Here Relax Only Twice a Year?

I think I am going to start doing this with the help of someone. I'm not lazy but I just don't feel like going through all of that every three or four months and you know stylists these days can't really be trusted not even considering the fact that they try to charge an "arm and leg" since they consider anything over an inch to be a virgin relaxer.

Anyone only relax twice a year? I am just doing this to get to my goal but once I get there I think I will strech to every four months.

Thanks

ETA: Use of homonyms hear vs. here.

I have been thinking of doing this myself. I currently relax every 7-8 weeks.

Im waiting for replies, too.

I know the lady from growafrohairlong.com does that but I think she uses Lye-based relaxers. Don't know if that would make any difference but i used no lye based relaxers.

I did my last touch-up in August and was going to do one every four months. The touch-up before that was in April and before that I waited nine months and my bill came up to $161 for what I thought was a touch-up and trim. Then he charged me all these extras because he had to use more product and did a special Swarkopf two-step conditioning treatment. The treatment left my hair feeling so great but $161 everytime I get a "touch up" is too much.:nono:

DANG!!!!!!!! $161.00...........i cant imagine paying that.

Because I see the great results Sylver2 has had with it. I started doing that since last year. I have to admit their is a visible difference in my hair. Its thicker and healthier. Im now on my 3rd 6 month stretch. I relaxed in July and my next relaxer is not until January 2009.

I will only be relaxing 2 times a year, may be one time a year. Before my transition( i'm no longer transitioning I re/texlaxed a while ago), I was relaxing only 2 times a year for quite some time.

I am now in this club. I'll see what benefits it will bring. My next retouch will be in January. I am now 10 weeks post. This is around the time I usually retouch.

Well if you're only doing it a few times a year, the price evens out. I used to pay $45 for a relaxer every 6 to 8 weeks when I was relaxing regularly. Which equaled out to over $300 over the course of a year. Then it went up to $60 by the time I started relaxing 3-4 times a year. And compared to the prices around now, I consider those cheap.

I currently relax three times a year. I'm now two months into a five month stretch. stretching has been one of the healthiest things I've ever done for my hair, so I am considering relaxing every six months. I think I might have to incorporate direct heat into my regimen though for the last few months of each stretch. I'm planning on buying a steamer to help loosen up the new growth, using quality products that help with detangling and flat ironing my roots when needed.

I co wash about 4 days a week when not in twists. I detangle only in the shower with lots of conditioner. I rarely use heat. I do not brush execept for my edges when needed with a soft boar bristle brush. I Moisturize with daily and put my hair in a bun. I have not experienced andy breakage.I dust when I need.

i only detangle in shower under running water with lots of conditioner in my hair. i finish detangling afterwards while hair is wet with lots of leave in conditioner. to avoid breakage i do not manipulate the new growth in between washes. i put scarf on to keep it flat and smooth. as long as it looks flat/smooth i'm alright w/ that.

i dont think i can do 2x a year. maybe when it gets longer...it maybe easier. but i've reduced it from 4-5x to 3x a year. and that's okay for me

This is my ultimate goal: to relax twice a year. However, my hair is short and under processed from a recent salon texturizer so my first stretch will be 12 weeks and from there I will add 4-6 wks. to each stretch.

I want to try this. My last relaxer was the end of August and I'm trying to decide whether to relax it the end of November or wait. I relax every 12 weeks.

For those of you who relax twice a year how do you wear your hair? Mine is starting to look a HAM. I wear buns mostly for work but I miss that just permed look and feel.

I texturize twice a year. Chicacanella, I will probabably relax three times a year as well, once I'm past bra strap so I can start wearing it out more.

I was doing every 6 months in siggy but I realized that my hair was starting to break. So I am going to start doing it every 4 months= 16 weeks. I am going 20 weeks this time cause I have a quick weave on a cap and wanted to wear it for a month b4 taking it down. But once I cant hande the new growth I will start wearing my LF again.

I actually telax also....although last time I don't think you could even call it that cause that coconut oil left it underprocessed.:ohwell: It looked like it was getting straight as I smoothed it but after I washed it out, I of course noticed it wasn't.

But I am currently bsl growing it to WL and since I never truly see the length cause I either have a wig or my hair isn't straightened, I am always surprised at the length when it is straightened. So, hopefully by next September I will either be WL or very close.:ohwell:

I think my waist and MBL are very close if not in the same place. Different, I know.:spinning:

I do my own retouches, which is a VERY TIME-CONSUMING task for me, so I would love to relax/texlax only twice a year. The only way I could do it, though, is to use direct heat at a certain point, which I don't want to do.

After some experimentation, I've found that the longest I can stretch successfully is 13 weeks or 4 times per year. I'm currently 8 weeks post, stretching to 12 weeks, but in 2009, I'll begin the 13-week stretches. :yep:

I'd really love to do this. Currently I'm up to about a three month stretch or so. My big problem is the tangling. My NG gets so tangled.

I only relax two or three times per year now. I've only had two this year and I don't plan to relax again until next year (if I ever do again) for the same reasons you mentioned chica. The economy is too bad right now for me to spend all of that money every so many weeks plus I am absolutely loving not having to look up and deal with scissor happy stylists all the time. My hair is longer and thicker as a result. I baby it between touch ups and keep it well conditioned so that I don't have breakage and tangling issues.
