anybody else ever grossed out about using "real/human" hair on their head?

Yeah, I wouldn't advise anyone buying anything out of someone's basement unless you know that person really well, so you def. made the right choice.

My point about the standards with regards to buying hair, is that legitimate manufactures have standards. We look for quality made conditioners and shampoos for our hair, made by trusted company names, the same scrutiny should be applied if you're selecting a weave. Look at the quality of the product and know the company you're buying from. We, can't buy a weave from Johnny on the corner, get some nasty infection and then say that human hair weaves come from dead people because we choose to buy some shady ish.
There are standard for buying and selling human hair, it's up the the buyer to know what they're spending their money on.

Okay. Gotcha. If they are reputable, and are meeting standards and the agency imposing the standards is handling its business. Agreed.

You don't think of it as coming off of somebody else's head if you're taking it out a package. :look: Besides once it's processed it doesn't even really matter. And half that stuff they sell in the BSS they claim is 100% human hair is not. It's Yak hair. Where do you think "Yaki" came from?

It doesn't bother me at all. Actually, I prefer to pay for good quality virgin human hair that I KNOW came from a human versus some cheap bss "human" mixture that for all I know has dog, hotse, yak hair and Lord knows what else :lachen:

All the times in my life where I've worn weave it's been fake. I know that you get the best result out human hair but I honestly think I am disgusted by the idea of walking around with someone elses hair on my head! It makes me feel desperate.

I enjoy a good weave every now and then, but I'm not trying to pass it off as my own, I'm happy for it to be known that it is a weave as long as it looks decent. And I love my weave that looks real but i think I would want to hurl if I knew it was someone else's hair on my head!!!

Well I heard its donkey hair (from their behind  ) they use for "yaki" (the beauty store brands) so that should make you feel better:rolleyes::grin:

YES!! I always thought I was the only one so I usually keep that opinion to myself. I don't even like to touch others people's hair. I always think about the person who's head it came from. What kind of healthy were they in? What if they were sick? If you tested the hair what kind of toxins would you find (like when they do drug test)? Too weird for me. I'll leave plenty for the weave wearers.

Doesn't give me the creeps or gross me out at all. Never has really; not even when I really thought it came from dead people. (I did, of course, wonder if the dead bald person mightn't come sit at the foot of the bed in the night waiting for me to get up so s/he can have the hair back...:lachen: (I'm kidding!))

Nah. I must be very self-centered because the generous soul that donated this wonderful hair that I so love to use doesn't ever cross my mind. :look: Heck, I am so used to wearing human hair that I think I do forget sometimes that it isn't all mine and that it once belonged to someone else. :p

Personally, I don't see the big deal. I think black women are too hard on themselves about this weave and wig thing. I mean Jewish othrodox women from the day they get married shave their heads and don wigs for the rest of their lives and there is no scrutiny over whether their wigs are fake or human hair or what's under their wigs. These women don't care. I think people should do what works for them. Wigs and false hair used to be a sign of mobility especially in Ancient Egypt and Ethiopia.

Best,
Almond Eyes

Well it's mixed from plenty of different donors and then processed. It's not like it's one person's hair (you can buy it that way but it's extremely expensive). None of that really matters at that point.

I never really thought about it. Just like I don't think about the fact that I'm eating a chicken's leg or a cow's liver.

I truly and honestly don't see how human hair grosses you out. It's no like they are shaving it off with dandruff, dyes, scalp conditions etc. The hair is human but it is very much processed hair.

Like I said, it is a personal "gross out". Some people are grossed out over seeing fingernail clippings or used underwear lying around....or used kleenex left on counters etc. etc. Everyone has a personal 'gross out'. I would not make a good "Survivor" contestant would I? bonjour

I agree. I have never thought there was anything wrong with human hair. The human hair is processed. Some of these ladies are acting like they are wearing someone's used drawls on their heads. Human hair is ok in my book!

I still can't stand human hair but this was funnY!

(off topic) See, I hate chicken legs and I could never eat a cow liver too! I went to a petting zoo last summer with my neices. And although I've seen live pigs many of times, seeing one last year just put it in a different light for me.

It's all dirty and smelly rolling around in the mud, I was grossed out! After that, I couldn't eat no more pork, I just need my meat to come from an animal who don't stank like that, you know!

I've never had a weave, but the thought of putting hair that grew from someone else's head on my head grosses me out. I joke about it with my friends all the time. Not dissing those who are into it - but the very thought makes me shudder. Then again, I also hate shaking hands and I have to leave the room when someone sneezes. :look:

It definitely creeps me out to have someone else's hair on my head, no matter how much it's been chemcially treated. I only use synthetic hair for my braids.

I hold my breath and try to cover my mouth/nose for at least 10 seconds when someone around me sneezes! I also use my left hand for touching food and my right hand for touching doors just in case I am somewhere and I can't wash my hands, I know that my left hand hasn't touched another hand or germ-laden doorknob.

The concept of using human hair itself, doesn't bother me.

It's the extortion of women for their hair that bothers me more - a lot of the 'Indian' hair that is sold is taken from religious donations (which, as a person of faith, horrifies me), and a lot more of it is taken from women who get 20 cents for their whole head of hair.

I would no more buy human hair than I would buy a diamond - too much modern day 'wage' slavery involved in both......

Ewww is right b/c when you buy "virgin" hair that has not been processed or whatever, you get their dead lice nests and dandruff as well in the hair. You have to clean the hari yourself and get it all off. And this was in a thread talking about some pretty expenisve hair on BHM.:nono:

That is nasty to me, I would rather wear synthetic hair that is manmade not, yaki either. I only own 3 weave peices adn will get more but, I make sure it says "Man Made" not yaki or human or whatever else.

Some of th elogic used in this thread has me laughing so hard, "They check your health and blah blah blah," Yeah right, you can always lie. With the demands on human hair, I am sure many batches have slipped through the cracks.:yep:

UMMMMMMMMmmm- it is not REALLY human hair, per se.

It is a process of making hair that mimics the look and feel of human hair. Its a manufacturing process called- the human hair making process.............a machine makes it. :yep:

I own a BSS store and have been to a few conferences and I learned this from the manufacturers.

HTH

So they be lying to people?

for the most part no... only b/c I know that the hair that I buy is processed....now I did feel kinda grossed out when several members on BHM mentioned that they have received their virgin remy hair from certain vendors with nits in them :barf:

I wouldnt really call it lying...........its just a "machine made" human hair.:look:

:lachen:

That's lying!!! The best a machine can do is 'human-like' hair. :lachen: Simulated human hair. Imitation human hair.

Or, are the machines some sort of freaky half machine/half human petri dish hybrid?

All I'm saying is that if human follicles were NOT involved, it ain't human hair.

Much of the "human' hair that is sold is not real HUMAN hair. This is one of the reasons people can use bleach baths and fabric softner to revert human hair "lace fronts" back to a silky feel.

Try washing your hair growing from your scalp in BLEACH and see how it look and feel! :nono:
