An Afro Means "Tangled Hair"

It takes me about 30 mins to detangle using the Tangle Teezer. Even before that with my paddle brush or my denman-dupe it never took me no 4 hrs. If it ever took me 4 hrs to detangle my hair I'd slap a relaxer in this bad boy SO quick!! Or maybe even lock it up again cuz that's just downright excessive!

I love Kimmay and I agree that when my hair air dries out into an afro even after I've detangled, it tangles right back up.

She has nice hair. Makes me want to go natural.

I like how she ended the video "like are you serious" and shows a childhood pic.

Some people think she has 3C hair and that she lies about her texture. I don't see 3C anywhere on her head so I'm not sure what people are talking about.

I agree with alot of what she says.... Not all of it because her hair is not mine and mine is not hers.

As for her attitude, I just take it that it's not directed at me personally, so why let it bother me? And when I can't stand her voice anymore, I will stop watching her. As for now, I like me some kimmaytube info.

I wore an afro puff every day for a whole year but once I got past NL I started getting tangles like you wouldn't believe when I tried to keep wearing it all of the time. So I think she's generally correct on her assessment on shrunken afros once you get past a certain length. Perhaps this isn't true for everyone but I've experienced what she's talking about.

I think people say 3 c because when the hair is wet it give the allusion or curlier hair until it drys. That's how my hair type is..

She has a good point, but there are lot of women that wear afros and have long hair.

She is stating why SHE does not wear afros. The style does not work for the goals she has for HER hair.:look: She did not say that afros means tangled hair for everyone, just for HER hair. I wonder if people actually listened to the you tube video before they typed their responses.

I don't have a problem with her not wanting to wear her hair in an afro. I'm at a loss as to why she had to justify her choice of hairstyles to anyone anyway. Like a poster said upthread, what is this obsession with not manipulating hair at all otherwise you aren't a 'true natural' whatevertf that is... except for people who choose to wear dreadlocks, I can guarantee you that no one is walking around with totally unmanipulated hair. People comb, brush, untangle, style, and condition their hair. Styling your hair has no bearing on its 'naturalness,' just people overreacting as usual and too obsessed with this bullsh8t 'hair typing' system. Underlying a demand for others to keep hair totally unmanipulated is the desire to 'deny' someone a 'looser' curl pattern BC YOUR HAIR IS JUST AS NAPPY AS MINE YOU AINT BETTER THAN ME.

Anyway. I've digressed. Her hair seems a bit coarser than mine, and I would like to see some videos with hair that has a bit more sheen but still a cottony texture, like mine. I want to learn how to bring more shine to my hair which doesn't seem like a concern of hers. That added to the fact that she over-enunciates as an affectation, I don't think I'll watch her videos. Additionally, I am just too impatient to watch stuff like this on my computer it's like GET TO THE POINT. This is why I'd rather read the information I need. I wish I could find a 'hair guru' on youtube that didn't spend so much time on extraneous blah blah blahing...

She said @ 0:57 "An Afro is the definition of tangled hair."

Either way, doesn't make me any difference LoL.

I have been wearing my hair in its shrunken state a lot recently and I don't really have any problems with detangling. I used to before I started oil rinsing once a week. When you hair is properly moisturized and well lubricated tangles aren't much of an issue. But I can only speak from my own experiences.

This is true. You have to know HOW to wear an afro old school style. She is a young'un speaking from her limited experience.

I don't know why this woman's hair is a big deal. Honestly her hair is not impressive it always seems dry and lacks luster . It is not hating its a fact. an Afro does not mean tangled hair. I don't see the sense in that, just like i don't see the sense in folks taking 2 hours to detangle apl to shoulder length hair. Ohh well.

I wore an afro all the time for three years. My hair grew to BSL but it was very tangled. It took me a long time to detangle. I agree with her.

When someone defines a word such as afro they mean everyone that wears an Afro. I saw and heard the entire video. FYI this is not a personal attack on your friend lol.

women are so petty. Many are just LOOKING for a reason to criticize. Don't see what's so wrong or bad about this girl

I am not normally in this section but her tone is not appealing. It's not what you say but how you say it. And honestly I don't see what is so wonderful about her hair. My hair is natural and I do not need to do all the things she does and we still get the same results. KISS is my regiment. Not everyone is a hater! Geez!

My hair is almost waistlength and it sure doesn't take me 4 hours to detangle. I disagree that wearing your hair in an afro= tangled hair. She seems just so extra. I watch her vids for entertainment purposes

Why dont people like her tone of voice?

Where is the attitude?

Clearly its rehearsed.

I don't think proper enunciation, speaking clearly, and pronouncing your e's and r's and t's and h's make you seem like your "talking down" to someone.

I think she is trying to sound like those instructional video people. Plus, people watch her for instructions, etc anyhow.

:lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen: foreal people are going ridiculously HARD for her.

Anywho I had never understood what people meant by her voice and tone until this video. There is nothing wrong with proper pronunciation of terms and enunciation but it was overkill in this video compared to others. There is nothing wrong with professionalism, not in the least, but her tone was coming across as arrogant to me.

And before the kumbuya crew comes and quotes me and asks me 50/11 questions with foam dripping from their mouths onto their tear soaked keyboards let me answer for you in advance: you mad?

I'm glad I watched that vid. Hopefully I'll be able to get around knots /tangles at the demarcation line now.

I've definitely noticed that leaving hair unstretched at NL is very different to doing it at APL:nono:. I remember turnergirl writing that on her fotki and I completely understand now.

What are the best methods for stretching out (texlaxed) hair? PM if you want. I'd love to be able to enjoy my hair as much as some/most of you do

There's a difference between speaking properly and overenunciating to the point where your cadence is significantly slowed. But whatever.

Umm, sometimes I wonder if I am an oddball natural because as my hair is getting longer I find it easier to detangle. My hair doesn't take any longer to detangle stretched than it does shrunken. I don't have a loose curl pattern and my hair grows up and out and all around. It grows very fast and dries fast. I do twist outs, braid outs, or wash and gos (which is basically a big mass of afro-y goodness). But it seems that a lot of naturals feel the same way about their hair in it's shrunken state that Kim feels about her hair. I can't be mad at her for having a seemingly common issue with it. I just can't relate (thank you Lord)! *high fives God*

May you all grow long and prosper! :gorgeous:

4 hours to detangle ONLY as she does it dry......perhaps you need to look into why it takes you less time:yep:jk

Hmmm...it doesn't take my hair even an hour to detangle wet or dry....lol. I still have thick hair.

I think we make too much out of Afro type hair. But in my opinion 5 hours is too long to detangle.

If I am not straightening. After and good cleaning and conditioning(and detangling in the shower) that takes 15-20 minutes.

Detangling and oiling and carefully combing each section into double stranded twists--for me-- takes 45 minutes tops depending on how thick I make them. Keep conditioner and water on hand.

All together roughly not much over an hour. I am careful with it...

I'm finding that I'm getting more skilled at managing my hair which could be the case for you too. Although if I had the patience Kimmay has for detangling I wouldn't be stuck between MBL & WL for the past 2-3 years. :ohwell:

Pink, the same is happening with mine..as it gets longer, it gets easier to detangle. I mean I pretty much hop in in the shower(co-wash detangle) and hop out, more conditoner then oil, barely detangle because it already is ..put it in a bun...and move on unless I am doing twists.

And ditto...
