6 months without heat on my hair

Daughter

Yeah baby! Might sound insignificant to some but I've managed 6 months without direct heat on my hair, and since I joined this board and Nappturality in 2003 I have only used heat about 6 times! I thought I HAD to use a hair dryer on my natural hair, hence brittle hair for the past few years :( I feel like my hair is getting its "zing" back!

What achievements have you made in your hair care? :yay:

Girl that is an accomplishment. I have yet to make it to six months. I think I went about three and that was it. I am supposed to be on the no-heat challenge right now but I keep getting bitten by the heat bug. Congratulations!!

Thanks girl! I know it's tough getting used to but the rewards are definitely worth it. My hair doesn't feel as dry as it used to - I thought that's how my natural hair was meant to be :look:

I have been tempted to go for the dryer but I find it more convenient to go without it now! And 2 and a half years ago you couldn't part me and my beloved hair dryer

Congrats what a great accomplishment!

We must have stopped using heat the same time, my 6 months was yesterday :yay: When I originally decided to put myself on this 6 month challenge, I had decided I was going to the salon today and getting my hair flat ironed, I actually have no desire to do so now. I think whenever I choose to use heat again, I will use it no more than 4x a year.

I was just in your album and you have beautiful, healthy looking hair.

I just joined a no-heat challenge. I hope I can last...

I use to be a no heat girl, but now I've had to incorporate blow drying in ever so often because of my schedule. But I'm trying to get back to no heat. I need to learn more heat-less styles so that I can accomplish this

Congrats girl :weird:

I have been going 14 months strong without any heat whatsoever and I plan on going without for even longer.

My thoughts exactly, I think I may only do it once a year or so if that! Giving up the heat has been the best thing I've done for my hair since ditching relaxers! :)

Thanks! My hair was splitting and breaking badly but since the last few months I've been trimming and improving my diet and of course giving up the hair dryer it's looking much better.

You can do it! Before I joined the boards I used to blow dry my hair with the comb after EVERY shampoo, every 2 weeks! :nono:

For me twists help me avoid heat and tangles, but that's all I tend to wear these days so I'm not much help!

14 months!!!! Now that's what I'm talking about!!! Well done girly :)

6 months w/o heat is quite an accomplishment- congratulations! I'm trying to let go of heat myself because I'm noticing that I'm getting splits as a result of the heat. But I am getting better- I no longer feel like I need a blowdryer...baby steps.
BTW- I love, love, love your hair!

I've been heat free for almost 5 months 3 of these months I hd a sew in weave and for almost 2months i have ben wearing my hair natural without any direct heat . i think i sat under the dryer maybe 2 times. I plan to go longer without using any heat. I hope it helps with th dryness. Have you seen any growth since abstaining from the heat.

Yay for you Daughter! Congratulations!

Although I have a relaxer in my hair, I too once thought I had to use a blow dryer on my head (along with hot combs, curling irons, etc. ):look: I thought I was supposed to use heat on my hair. My hair always felt brittle and was always breaking off - I thought that was just the way my kind of hair was. When I stopped using heat (2 years next month for me of no heat!) , my hair thrived almost right away and continues to.

That's great!

Actually, now that you mention it, I haven't blow dried my hair in almost 2/3 months, just keeping it moist, shampooing, conditioning and wearing it up and wet/damp and drying in ponytail all seems to help keep the heat off for me at least.
