Before I detangle, I separate my hair into at LEAST 4 sections/quarters. You can do this outside the shower before you jump in, or what until you're in the shower and your hair is a little wet.

I add conditioner to each of the four sections, work it thru with my hands then re-pin. I like to let it sit for a bit, so I'll continue with my shower and give it about 15 mins.

When I'm done showering, I take down each section and start by detangling with my fingers very gently. I separate the areas that feel tangled first, then move on to actually finger combing my hair. Always start at the ends and work your way up. I keep a shower comb in the shower, so once I'm done with my fingers, I will put that section under the water, and use the pressure to help me remove anything else, always working from ends to roots with the comb. If you hit a snag try separating it into smaller sections, add more conditioner, and comb it from a different angle (like from the side vs from the top).

I don't even always move on to the comb step -- a lot of the time I just finger comb and leave it at that. About twice a month a do a "deep detangle" and use the same process, but I use a shower comb, then a Melbco comb, and finally a Denman on each section to make sure I get out all the shed hairs. HTH!

So beautiful. I added your fotki to my favorites. I think you're my hair twin. I can't wait to get rid of these relaxed ends! I love your bodacious puff!

I like your philosophy about not always being fully detangled. My natural curls want to clump together and combing really works against that. As more of it grows in, I'm learning that my natural hair will be very dense and curly.

Thanks for sharing your progress. I'll be looking in on your fotki often!

So thick and pretty!!!
