I used a plastic cap this morning in the shower to incorporate some moisture. My hair was very damp, and I already had product in it. I didn’t reapply anything.
This wash day was my first attempt at starting over and keeping it simple. I had a few issues to address (scalp and strand build-up, shedding and a bit of breakage on the ends) from missing last week’s wash day so i decided on the following:
My hair has been completely reset. It is shiny, super soft and strong with no breakage in sight. Shedding has decreased significantly as well. It still looks and feels great four days later with no additional product. I’m off to a good start.
- Dampen hair and scalp with rose water to section
- Prepoo with SM Antibreakage mask and lots of grapeseed oil (stops any breakage I have in its tracks every time)
- Lather 2x with Design Essentials Honey poo (sulfate)
- Green tea rinse
- DC with Camille Rose Coconut Water Treatment (HG for moisture) and grapeseed oil
Thank you! I hope that I can replicate these results!Woo, congrats!
Does the SM Anti-breakage masque have super slip without the added grapeseed oil?
Can you detangle with it?
TIA!
I'm super excited to say I've fine tuned my regimen and products and now my reggie is complete!!! My wash day was amazing and my hair feels better than it ever has. It literally feels like my straightened hair. It's so silky soft!!!! I plan to follow this routine until I reach bsl. From there I will wear my hair out at times instead of constant protective styling.
I wash once a wk and do not moisturize or take out of twists throughout the wk.
Perfected regimen is as follows:
On wash day:
Detangle:
Take down twists one row at a time
apply trader joes nourish spa to section to make tangles melt away
Finger detangle to remove majority of tangles then comb gently to remove any remaining shed hairs and tangles
Once done with that section twist to keep from retangling.
When done with whole head apply plastic cap to pre poo
Shampoo:
Remove all twists and rinse hair thorougly to remove pre poo
Shampoo 2x with sulfate shampoo to remove all products and build up
Nexxus shampoo if protein is needed, loreal mega moisture shampoo if moisture
I thoroughly massage scalp and run shampoo down length to ensure it's fully clean and ready for dc
DC:
Apply either myhoneychild honey hair mask, or honey hair mask mixed with protein filler in sections and comb through to make sure I have every strand covered with product.
Apply plastic cap and finish shower.
After I get out apply hot head for 10-15 min to ensure it penetrates the hair shaft.
Rinse with lukewarm water
Styling:
Apply giovanni direct leave in, jbco, and shea butter.
While still damp section off into the sections I want to use for twists to lessen damage hair may get by trying to part on dry hair.
Split section in half and gently comb through and braid to keep hair stretched and detangled
When ready place in twists and leave til next wash day.
I can’t seem to use that grease, or the SE leave-in cream either. I don’t know where I fit in anymore. No more product junkie stuff going on. I guess I will wash my hair once a week, now that I have color. I moisturize, seal, and brush once a day, and keep my scarf on if I’m in the house. I will get a haircut once a week. My hair seems to grow back very fast. I will bleach once a month, or every other month. I haven’t done a protein treatment yet. I have been focused on moisture. I have to see what is safe to use. That’s pretty much it. I need to keep my hair routine very simple, and it keeps me focused on other stuff like school. I’m not worried about my hair anymore.I used some grease and it doesn’t seem to irritate my scalp. All of those oils I got are starting to mess with me. All of my high priced moisturizers are going to my boys. The Silk Elements leave-in cream doesn’t seem to bother me.
I use the shampoo with a moisturizing DC and the DC with a moisturizing shampoo. The rest of the line works fine together. I use the shampoo sparingly though. You definitely need to up the moisture after using it.Happy Monday All. This is the design, revision and reflect thread so I don’t feel too bad for reporting fails after clearly identifying what consistently works for my hair and scalp . My hair was a bit dry but still in good shape from last week’s wash so I wanted to experiment a bit. I have had the Mane Choice Ancient Egyptian line for a long time and, based on the reviews, thought it would help with a strengthening, moisturizing, easy wash day experience. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
I prepoo’ed with Evco and APB Ayurvedic oil overnight. Washed in sections with the AE shampoo and DC’ed for 30 min with heat with the AE deep conditioner and AE oil. The poo tangled my hair and the DC acted as a pure protein on my strands. I love protein and can use it weekly with out issue but, after rinsing the AE DC, my strands were rough and tangled. Detangling was difficult and two days later, my hair feels reinforced but dry and somewhat hard. I am sure that the prepoo and heat contributed to the shenanigans but I expected so much more from these products. I will try to infuse moisture daily until I can reset my hair during my next wash day.
I hope everyone is doing well!

Your curls look soooo juicy. I love.In the attempt to adress the issue of my HG gel drying out my hair, I did Dubaidee4c's much shorter max hydration method. And I plopped (for the first time) overnight, using my microfiber towel following Mahogany Curl's method.
ALL OF THIS NEW STUFF WAS AWESOME! So many epiphanies. I can actually wash and go at night or in the evening now! That is life changing!!!
I may indeed have solved the one problem I've had with my HG gel: Dry-feeling hair. I love DubaiDee4c's no-leave-in-high-moisture-anyway wash and go regimen. Leave in was interfering with my gel, but gel on naked hair was very drying for me. Using an AVJ spritz seems to be the solution!
If I can repeat this 3 more times, I might become a believer!
The good thing: Dubaidee4c's method is TRULY low manipulation.
I accidentally elongated just one curl when I plopped (see photo). However, when I tension blow dry later to elongate my wng, it should be blend-in-able. Hopefully!
Note to self: I have documented all that I did yesterday hair-wise in the 2018 Low Manipulation Challenge thread.
