2012 - Christian Random Thoughts Thread

I'm so tired of praying for this same situation over and over for years on end, to get hope about the situation, only to be let down in the end. Now when I go to pray for the situation I just get nauseous and sick. I'm just burnt out on this situation and its hindering me from praying about other things.

DreamLife don't worry and pray. Let it go. Take the cues of feeling ill about what the issue is.

Today is so blah but at least I'm in alive. I could be so many things but I'm learning to be ok with being where I am. God placed me here in this job for a reason. If it's nothing more than to learn from others in order for me to go to another place than so be it. I know where I came from so this is a blessing. I know we are a continued progression.

This is the third friend whose father has passed in the last year and a half. I feel like we're all too young to be experiencing this yet.

Defeating Discouragement

Do you get discouraged? The answer has to be "yes." If you aren't now, you have been. If you haven't been, you will be. None of us go through life without periods of discouragement. I want to talk about practical ways we can defeat discouragement.

Did you ever realize that the Bible is full of discouraged people? Let's think about some of the reasons they were discouraged, because they're very similar to the things that discourage us today.

1.David
"Oh, that I had wings of a dove!" David wrote; "I would fly away and be at rest -.I would hurry to my place of shelter, far from the tempest and storm" (Psalm 55:5-6). David was discouraged because of an enemy who was jealous of him and trying to destroy him.

Do you have some people in your life who are consciously trying to do you harm? Are there some people close to you who are jealous or mean or vindictive? That can be very discouraging.

2.Elijah
Elijah was discouraged because of exhaustion. After a great spiritual victory, when he called down fire from heaven and destroyed all the prophets of Baal, one little woman scared him to death because she threatened to kill him. And he was ready to give up. "I have had enough, Lord," he said. "Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors" (1 Kings 19:4).

I find that I am often discouraged after spiritual victories. How about you? Do you often find yourself discouraged just when God has done something wonderful in your life? It's not unusual.

3.Hannah
Hannah was discouraged because the deepest desire of her heart had not been given to her. And it was a good and worthy desire-to have a baby that she could give back to the Lord. Downhearted and discouraged, in bitterness of soul Hannah wept much and prayed to the Lord for a baby. (1 Samuel 1)

Some of you are discouraged because of unfulfilled desires. Maybe it's the desire to be married, but the right person hasn't come along. Maybe, like Hannah, it's the desire to have a baby, but your womb has been closed so far. Maybe it's your dreams of serving God in some special way, but the door hasn't opened yet. It can be discouraging.

So, we can certainly see that discouragement is nothing new; it's been around since the beginning of time. We can defeat discouragement in our lives.

4. Naomi
Naomi was discouraged because of financial difficulties and terrible loss. Her husband and two sons had both died, and she was left penniless and homeless. "Don't call me Naomi," she told her friends. "Call me Mara (meaning bitter), because the Almighty has made my life very bitter... " (Ruth 1:20-21). It's easy enough to understand her discouragement. Financial difficulties cause a great deal of discouragement for many of us.

5. Mary and Martha
Mary and Martha were discouraged because they lost someone they loved, and they had really expected Jesus to save him. After all, Jesus had been healing all kinds of other people; surely He would come and save his beloved friend, Lazarus, they reasoned. And when he didn't, they were very discouraged; Jesus had disappointed them. "Lord," Martha said to Jesus, "if you had been here, my brother would not have died" (John 11:21).

Have you ever set an agenda out for the Lord, expecting him to work on your timetable, and then been disappointed when he didn't come through? That can be discouraging.

6. Peter
Peter was discouraged because of his own failure. After he denied the Lord three times, Peter went out and wept bitterly, we are told. I would imagine he felt he had blown it for good, and he must have been terribly discouraged with himself. How could he deny the Lord, the One he promised never to deny?

When I look at myself and see how inadequate I am, how often I fail, how I go back and do the same things over and over that I know I shouldn't do, I get very discouraged. In fact, that discourages me probably more than anything else, how about you?

7. Jesus
Even Jesus fought discouragement when his friends failed him; when he was misunderstood; when he tried to help and his help was refused. That really hurts, when you have totally good motives, and yet people don't approve or understand or support you. In fact, they may reject you, as they did Jesus. It is easy to be discouraged then.

It is encouraging to see that even these great people of God went through times of discouragement.

law school graduation is around the corner, and while I am excited I am also very nervous about life after law school

"I know the spirit is purging me of everything that's hurting me"

I still love this song

Praying! Stay in faith!

This is my song! Just love Lecrae!!!!!

ETA: Reading, God's Remedy For Rejection by Derek Prince, such a great book.

Well, I stil have my 'receipt' as evidence.

Scripture says to let love be without hypocrisy. To be a hypocrite used to mean to be an actor, to play a part. So we're not supposed to be simply playing a part when we act lovingly, kindly, or just nice toward someone. It should be genuine.

Trying not to act up with these clerks. Gotta remember who I am and WHOSE I am but they are about to take me to THAT place.

Can there be true peace here? I think there can be. It's what I've striven for, with equal expression, for quite awhile. I know we can achieve it. We can LOVE one another, listen (or ignore and look at another post?) and embrace each other. Differences are going to be a given, but the love of Christ is a command.

Just to add the flip side of love to this too. Perfect love, believes all things. It doesn't mean that you are blinded to people's behaviors or the things they do to you, but its a great idea to assume the best about people until they show you otherwise, or you know with certainty that their intentions toward you are wrong. This is important to me, especially in a forum where you can't tell what people's motivations are. There is always hiprocrisy in the church, and it is always revealed. But we remember, that only God knows what is in people's hearts. And they will have to deal with God for showing false love, for by our love others are supposed to recognize his church. The word says not to love in word or talk, but in deed and truth. But it also says, it believes all things.

1 Corinthinas 13:4-7
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

That's why the bible says be longsuffering. Trust me, nothing will be wasted. We are getting closer to salvation by dealing with differences! It will perfect us (hopefully) and we will be made more like him. We don't have to agree with everyone but we can show love and we can be patient and longsuffering with eachother.

God loves his bride, the church! The church is imperfect, the people are imperfect, but he gave his life for it! If we know that we are not blameless, it think it makes it easier to have the same attitude towards his church Christ has about us. Apostle Paul tells us that “Christ loved the church and gave his life for it.” (Eph. 5:25 I have had this book a little less than a year, and I just opened up over the weekend. It's called "Stop Dating the Church," it's by Josh Harris, the same guy that wrote, "I kissed dating goodbye." I think I will finally commit to a church because I have been "dating" the church since college, and I know that is not God's will for me. It's good so far, I've gotten through a third of it and plan to get more involved in ministry again and fully commit to my local church.

I was going to acknowledge that then changed my mind... LOL

I bought a small rock that has the word "Grateful" engraved on it. I keep it in my purse and I am trying to be grateful for at least ONE thing a day.

Today I am grateful for my life. I am breathing and living and that means I have another chance to get this right.

I thank God I have a praying mother
today she said "you know, when I think about you and everything you had to go through
the song "I don't believe He brought me this far to leave me" comes to mind
and then she prayed with me and as she prayed
she said the verse "He is the same God today, yesterday and forevermore"
I almost burst out crying
because it's exactly what I needed to hear
why was I stressing?
so pointless

So I want to pass it on to you
ladies remember He is the same God forevermore
the same God who promises not to leave you or forsake you

ITA. Just to clarify, my post was about something I experienced over the weekend and at work today. Nothing LHCF related, or anything I felt I was the victim of. I've witnessed a couple of times lately people putting on a pleasant face and then coming to me afterward to dish and talk about how they "really feel" about the person. It just makes me  because you never know if that person is doing the same to you.

This morning I was praying this very same, '... God you've never forsaken me and you will never leave me nor forsake me..."

Thank you for allowing God to confirm my prayer through you. I know it wasn't easy when something hurts, yet you still shared and it means so very much.

As always, you live up to your name... LoveisYou... :love3:
