Thanks girl! You' re really sweet.
Thanks for the kind words. Kenesha, please refer to the response I gave Faith re: my hair type. I'm still a lil confused about it (when I read up on it) but like I said, I've had people literary play around in my new growth, to give me their assessment of my hair type and well, that is what they have concluded. But I'm a lil curious; do u have any ideas of the type, from what u could see???
Again, thank u everyone. Your encouragement & support has truly been felt.
God Bless u all
Luv,
Peachtree

You really look like a 3C to me I'm saying this from what I could see of your hairline in the pics. My beautician's weren't familiar with the Andre chart, but I can tell you I think most of them had a different idea what my hairtype was (I base this on the types of relaxer they thought I "needed"). Finally a hairdresser who was into hair health and really knew her stuff told me that so many people had overprocessed my hair because of what they "thought" my hairtype was, so it's hard to trust people to their typing system. I don't even really like Andre's system because although I say I'm a 4A/B I don't have z strands, but I do have areas that are naturally drier and harder to manage than I think a 4A strand should be, so what the heck is my hairtype?
Hey Kenesha,
Uh oh... don't tell me you're questioning yours also
!
Thanks for responding. See, I had a feeling u were gonna say "3C"... that was my first choice after I read his descriptions. But to be honest, I'm still as confused now as I was after reading of his system
. Girl, so many people have told me so many things... Who knows, next mth I might go back to claiming 3C again
.
But what's more important is being able to find the right products & develop a regime that agrees with your hair.... this, I was able to do....THANK GOD
If anyone cares to see them, I've posted updated pics again. There's about 7 (or so) of my current braid out.
One thing is for sure, I'm certainly getting my "dolla's worth" out of this digital cam... cause lately, I've been a lil bit toooooooooo pic happy
!!! My 19mth old daughter "runs away" & yells "no" when she sees me coming with the camera
......now, that's bad
.
I'm thinking of trying a "twist out" at my next wash. If anyone has a pic or knows of a site where I can see a pic of a "twist out", then please provide the link.
Hey Peachtree, I love your braidouts. I don't why, but I've always thought those were done with little individual briads or twists. Thanks for posting. I may try this more often, since it's not as time consuming as I thought.
Your hair will look really pretty in a braid out.... give it a try....I'm sure u'll like it. It's not time consuming at all (besides the drying time)... nor is it limiting u to one spot (like being under a hooded dryer).... in fact, the more u move around, the quicker it dries
I LOVE your braid-out!! I wish I knew how to cornrow...
When I do braid-outs with individual braids, it always comes out too crinkly. I love twist-outs, though. They put a nice wave in my hair. Again, your hair looks awesome and I can't wait to see the pics of your twist-out.
Hey Peachtree, beautiful pictures! Are you sure that you use Optimum no-lye, I just have never known optimum to make a no-lye relaxer, but your hair looks grrrrrreea
Gurrl, u betta' post those pics! My lil "5 min of fame" is over now.
I'll "lay low" on the next thread update....So get in here & get yours
. The sheer support & encouragement here is totally wonderful
.
(I have an out of town (teenage) cousin that I'm trying to inspire to take better care of her hair.... this is why I've been posting a lot of pics in my album (at her request). As a matter of fact, she "lurks" around here ....."G", stop lurking & become a member girl!!

I understand, cause this braid out is a lil "too crinkly" for my taste...probably because I just touched up. Usually I'll do a "braid out" when my hair is at its thickest (like the last wash before a touch up). Then I get nice "loose crinks". I'm gonna try the "twist out" at the next wash & see how that goes....

Now, what do you do to maintain it?? Do you re-braid it, or just sleep with a satin cap on?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, I re-braid it. To elaborate, here's what I do:
1) Re-braid hair in same position as original braids
2) Leave about 1" of un-braided hair on end. Spritz S-Curl & Hot 6 on ends.
3) Roll ends using end papers
4) Spritz S-Curl over entire head (concentrating on braids) until lightly dampened. Then follow with Hot 6. This helps to "re-set" the wave pattern. (Prior to having S-Curl, I used to spritz water & hot 6. This combo works just fine also.)
5) Leave uncovered for a bit to allow braids to dry
6) Cover with satin/silk bonnet.... then it's off to bed

How many days will you keep it before you wash it again?
[/ QUOTE ]
By using the above steps, I can maintain a braid out for 5 days. But usually by the 4th day, I'm washing it out!
Yeah give it a try. My mom's hair was "ear length" on top (shaven in the back) when I began giving her braid outs. She wasn't sure how it would look, but I did it & she recvd soooo many compliments. Now her hair is shoulder length & she still loves the braid outs. This is all to say....the braid out can still look very pretty no matter the length of your hair. .....and if nothing else, it's a very "healthy style" when wearing your hair down, esp if you're trying to look cute
