Lets talk about Camellia oil............

Ok so I've heard of this oil before, and I've read about a few members raves a while back. But last week when I saw PacificPrincesu's awsome hair and she said she uses this oil exclusively it really peaked my interest, and then today I read on the long hair community that its good for smoothing down the cuticle and adding softness. As someone with coarse hair ,I'm ALL about smoothing and softness

So, have you tried it? How was it? can you compare it to more common oils like olive, coconut or castor oil?

I love Camellia oil because it absorbs fast and ads so much shine to your hair.

I use it as a smoothing/shine serum since all smoothing/shine serums dry my hair out. It's great during the summer time.

I use it, it did not make a noticeable difference on my W&G hair which needs a lot more moisture.

But now that I am back to texlaxed and roller sets its is the perfect oil, not too heavy and provides ample moisture without weighing my hair down.

I just got another bottle.=)

ETA: Not sure if this matters much but I use organic white camellia oil.

It compares to none of those oils. All of those are far more thick and viscous than camellia. In terms of (somewhat) common oils, it's probably closest to jojoba in how it behaves and the sort of smell it has, tho they don't really smell alike. It's closest in weight to grapeseed which is thinner than jojoba.

In terms of more precious carriers, it's about like argan..tho it's even more expensive than argan.

I've used it on hair and face since 11/07. On my relaxed hair, it doesn't leave it greasy feeling, and it absorbs quickly, leaving great shine.

I purchased camellia seed oil from Camden Grey in Oct. 8 oz for less than $20. (I'm at the beach so can't access my records!)

I did not vote in the poll because camellia works wonderfully as an in-between moisturizer but not as a stand-alone product. I moisturize my hair and skin with coconut oil and several days later I'll use camellia for a day or two before using coconut oil again. I agree with jamaraa that it resembles jojoba in its weight although it leaves my skin softer than jojoba.

i LOVE camellia oil. i started using it when i lived in Japan. it's very moisturizing but also very, very light. when i was relaxed i used it to seal after Giovanni Direct Leave-In when i did rollersets. they always came out very nice and my hair wasn't weighed down. i also use it on my skin somtimes. it's one of my top 3 oils. it's one of the lighest oils i've used. might even be lighter than Jojoba.

I like camellia oil for all of the reasons already stated. My hair is lukewarm about coconut oil but really likes camellia oil. I like to rub a couple of drops over my hair a couple of days post wash to give it some shine. I am trying to experiment with consistent prepoos for 2010 and camellia oil will be in the mix in some form. I order mine from fromnaturewithlove.

I haven't tried that yet by my sister mixes it in her cetaphil face cleanser.

ok, I'm glad some one asked because I will tell.
I use it on my hair, skin, and nails.

I use it as a pre-poo even before I go to the salon
I use it on my straighten hair for "moisture" and on my edges daily
I use it with my DC
I use it with a water based leave in (between my own aloe concotion or Aveda brillant).

On my air dried hair camellia alone isn't enough until it's dry. It does soften it doesn't bluid up (although you can use too much!) and from what I have read it is the closest thing to sebum. You can get a lot of it cheap from www.fromnaturewithlove.com. I bought a pump spray bottle and I put mine in there for easy/ storage use.

I like it better than cococut b/c Idon't have to worry about liquifying it. The only oil I love as much is the Dabur coconut oil. Please try it.

ok, I'm glad some one asked because I will tell.
I use it on my hair, skin, and nails.

I don't think camellia oil is more expensive than argan....it's the reverse. I, also, got both from fromnaturewithlove.com and 8 oz. camellia oil is $18.60 and 8 oz. of argan oil is $51.56.

I love them both, too, and use them as described above. I've added them individually to Shescentit's banana brulee and Hairveda's Sitrinillah DCs and they give my relaxed hair wonderful results! softness, shine, longer moisture.

Yes, top end camellia oil from Japan is mega expensive. I go for the cheaper stuff NOT Japanese stuff (it's great too) which is good and compabale to argan, but both are expensive IMHO.

No, I don't mix it (or any oils) in any of my conditioners. I will mix it in oils I make/use specifically for my hair or my facial masks. As I said, too expensive for that.

It depends on what quality we're talking about and where you buy them...but yes outside of these sites, top quality camellia IS more expensive. These sites aren't selling the primo.

She'd probably do better using a dab in her moisturizer rather than her cleanser, IMHO. The oil's benefits are being washed away w/ the soap. Argan's very light and can go on skin w/o much worry of oiliness.

While I do love my precious carriers, I always try to point out something comparable (and cheaper ) if I can. Jojoba (which is native to and a prod of the USA ) is comparable to camellia and we get the primo quality here for fairly decent prices. Most of the primo quality camellia (organic and handcrafted artisinal) is kept on the Japanese market $40-50 for 4 oz is NOT unusual for it.

I haven't tried this oil (coconut oil works for me) but have read lots about it. There are a few different types and Camellia japonica, or Japanese tea seed oil, is the most expensive type. Tea seed oil is the common name. Here is more info:

Hmm......now I'm wondering if I have to try this product.

My hair LOVES Aubrey Organic's Conditioners, particularly Honeysuckle Rose and White Camellia. The difference between the two conditioners that I have noticed is that HSR is much more moisturizing and White Camelia is still moisturizing but provides much less frizz.

So now ya'll have me wanting to try this. Where do you guys buy your oil?

I've used camellia oil. It's one of the lightest oils out there, my hair loves it, and all the great stuff people say about it is anything but hype. It really is an amazing product. I found jojoba to be too heavy. The problem is, camellia oil isn't exactly cheap, and I've noticed that the price goes up every few months. I've experimented with some other oils to see if I could find any cheaper replacements. Rice bran is good, but still slightly on the heavy side. I've found that grapeseed and and sweet almond oil are comparable to camellia.

Yes you're right. The price of Argan is a walk in the park compared to Camellia oil, but then with my oils I only ever buy organic so it's always going to be expensive.

I sell and use the Japanese Camellia Kissi, and it's one of my favourite and even customers that have tried this oil keeps coming back for more. It is not a cheap oil but worth it IMO.
For me it is a excellent oil that absorbs very quickly, excellent after bath body oil, the best after bath oil to be honest. But for my thick natural hair it's just too light, I think if I were relaxed it will be the perfect oil.
One oil I must try and possible consider retailing in 2010 is Argan/Moroccan oil for my hair as I have heard so many good review of this oil.

My relaxed, fine hair holds mositure better when sealed with camellia oil without being weighed down, oily, and icky like with other heavier oils. Phyto 7 sealed with camellia are my moisturizing leave-ins have allowed me to ended dryness and breaking ends. I credit the pair with actually being able to retain length.

The other thing I really love about camellia is that it has natural sunscreen properties which are important in the so cal sun. My hair usd to bleach reddish in the summers - something that no longer happens with camellia oil. It's also lovely on the skin.

It is expensive. I have a freind coming in from Japan @ the end of Jan who is bringing some for me. I paid about $9 for a 100ml bottle. I hope I love it as much as you ladies do.
