You get two grades
Grade your haircare skills for your daughter before LHCF
and
After LHCF

Personally I have two boys and they have type 1 hair, all I have to do is keep it cut short and add water to lay it down in the morning:grin:

I'd say...
Before LHCF: B- I at least knew how to detangle her hair properly, and tried hard to keep it healthy. But I didn't know much about products, and some of the things I was using was doing more harm than good.

After LHCF: Pfft, I have no shame. I get an A, lol. Her hair is still done regularly, and it gets the proper care on all fronts now, not just detangling. I feel that is due to the knowledge I got from here, as I probably wouldn't have found out on my own.

Oh, and my daughter has 3c/4a hair.

Hmm...before LHCF - C+...maybe a B-, I joined when she was 9 months old and I was pretty much letting my mom handle her hair until that point. She kept it moisturized and styled well. This was pretty much all I did when I combed it.

Now she's almost 2 and I give myself a A-, only becasue I need to find away to take her hair down at night and not have to start from scratch styling in the morning. I've learned so much about her hair which is nothing like mine. I know we can reach my goal of her having long, healthy, natural hair for her entire childhood.

I don't know how to do hair.

This is my baby in her spring day care photo:

No mind you, one of the ponytails came out and they lost the holder so the classroom teacher replaced it with a red band they had laying around.

She now goes with her daddy every other week to get her hair braided while he gets his hair cut.

Can we please see before and after pictures (pretty plz :Blush2:). Sorry I cannot participate no kids

O_o Noticed I don't have many of her facing forward, lol.

And AWWW!!! Such pretty babies!! Neshia, your daughter's hair looks similar to my own. Her hair LOVES coconut oil, and her styles seem to stay fresh the longest when I use it to smooth down her hair, and put a bonnet on her at night. Admittedly, the bonnet usually comes off at some point, though, lol.

I hasten to add that I've been lurking on and off here for 3 years and now I'm ready to get serious about doing my own natural hair. Hopefully what I learn will help me save $ not only on me but on my daughter's hair as well.

SweetSpirit your daughter is gorgeous! And so is her hair! In real life I'm embarrassed when we get compliments on her hair since I never admit I don't do it myself.

It's grown out alot since hubby started taking her to the shop where they wash and braid it. I think another stumbling block for me was that it was short, especially in the back where she was nearly bald, but again she was only 2 at the time (she photographs older). Maybe now that she's 3 and it's hitting her shoulders I will summon up some courage to try some things with her hair.

This weekend I started using coconut oil for on my hair and a yesterday I bought a standing hair dryer by Sally (the Babyliss Pro) to do my own hair and since she was with me she insisted that we buy some barrettes and things for her hair. On Thursday night I'll try doing something since this coming Saturday is her regular "shop" day. If it comes out funky it'll only be that way for two days!

I would give me a B. This is because I really try to do my daughters hair. Sometimes it looks nice for a few hours. She just takes out her braids and ponytail holders. Her hair will fluff up as the day progresses. She is a type 2b/c. But after all the money I have spent on products for us her hair responds very well to afroveda products. The curly pudding helps make her hair more defined and the hemp twist butter is the ONLY thing that will lay her hair down. She's 20 months old so the messing up hair thing is probably normal but it can get annoying at times especially when you spend some time doing it.

Aw, don't be embarassed! None of us start with the knowledge, we have to learn. When DD was a baby she had a lot of hair (born with a full head:eek:), but I still didn't have a CLUE as to what to do with it. It was fine, and still wasn't enough to really put in a barette or anything, lol. She often had on a little headband and that was IT.:lachen:

Maybe, if you continue to do the shop thing, go with them so you can see what they do with your DD's hair? Since it's apparently working, you may get some really good tips.:yep:

I would say before joining the hair forums my grade would be an A
After the forums my grade would be an A++++

This is my daughter's hair before joining any hair forums. Its just as long now, but I just use more natural products.

For me I give myself b+ before she always stayed moisturized and in protective styling. I made a bad judgement call and listened to a stylist when I applied a JFM texture softner now I give my self a c- until I fix her severe damage. Sorry I have no pics we are in the process of fixing the breakage issues

What a cutie!!!!! I can't wait for my Addy to get older she so can have big twist like that!

All you ladies have such cute kids!!

Before LHCF (joined in July 09) I give myself a C-. My dd is 7 now. She has protective style all the time, BUT my hairdresser told me to use texture softener on her hair to make combing easy and I did...3 times in a year. Also she told me to use Blue magic on her hair and I did too..once a week after shampoo. The over thing I did was to not use chelating shampoo while she was taking swimming lessons. I just washed with regular shampoo, no condish, everyday day, for months .
Here is a before taken in march

I don't have an after yet.

I have two sons so I don't really qualify for this poll, but their teachers are always telling me how good their hair smells and how lush it is (from co-washing and daily moisturizing.)

Before: B+ only because I could have used better products. My dd was bald up until she was 15 months. She's 18 months in this pic.

After: A- I use better products for her now, no grease. The minus is because sometimes I forget her bonnet or skip a day misting her braids. Other than that, so far so good.

Im still up in the air about how to care for my daughter's hair. I will give myself a B. i dont have a before LHCF. Since I have been on this sight bfore I had kids. But I am still learning to care for her hair since it is so different from mine

....before and after....I would give myself an A+ before and a C right now. We are still recovering from being overseas, and her hair was long as it was, so it's taking time for everything to turn around to where it was prior to leaving the US. Her ends split now for no good reason...

Her hair still looks exactly like this, and I still keep it braided...just take off about 5-7 inches when it's down...from WL to just shy of BSL now...

ETA: Not sure why this pic dates 2007, but it's Sept 2006 when my sister's baby was only 6 mos old. Deanna was...9 at the time.
