I will!! Yeah I am. I just get tired of my hair sometimes. It seems to take so much work to keep it on my head (it seems to shed a lot and break for no reason) but I will have to deal wit it at some point especially since I don't really like fake hair so may as well be now:grin: Also do you have any tips on braidouts the one in your siggy (last on the left) is gorgeous!!

Thank you! I love braidouts and twistouts. Left siggy pic is a twistout, right is siggy. Same routine for both - cowash, apply leave-in, airdry till 80% dry. Apply lustrasilk shea butter cholesterol to each section before flat twisting or cornrowing. Rollers on ends or culformers or bantu knots. Check out my transition folder in my fotki for pictures.

Hair Type? 3c

How many months/weeks/ days post are you? 46 weeks

What is your transitioning plan? BC or cutting up as your hair grows down? Hair styles (weaves, braids, twists...) grow out until I can't take it no more

If you plan to BC, do you have a projected date that you are going to do it?

Have you experience any problems/ setbacks yet?

I've BC four time in my life and could not style short hair. My setback is keeping it straight in the summer I sweat and frizzy up fast and slow growth probably to much manipulation from trying too many things at the same time. PJ

What products are you are using:

Ayurveda, cantu and giovanni leave in are great for keeping my hair soft. Coconut oil, shea butter, I don't have regimen so this is probably my set back and I should just quite experimenting and keep in simple. Got caught up in LCHF PJ

Thank You. And I wish I could check out your fotki but I am at work and they have fotki blocked:nono:. So you don't just braid it regularly? You 2 strand twist it instead?

Hair Type? I have no idea...

How many months/weeks/ days post are you? 7 months

What is your transitioning plan? BC or cutting up as your hair grows down? Hair styles (weaves, braids, twists...) my "plan" is to keep going until i feel that urge to cut off all my relaxed hair. my urges to relax are long gone.

If you plan to BC, do you have a projected date that you are going to do it? some time next year

Have you experience any problems/ setbacks yet? my hair sticks together a lot, so i have a problem with detangling. i have short hairs all over my head that seem to have broken off around where my NG is, but those short hairs contribute to my relaxed ends looking really thin.

What products are you are using? i'm not loyal to anything really. basically just CON detangling shampoo, affirm 5 in 1 (protein), and lekair shea butter cholesterol (moisture). i really love matrix biolage hydrating balm but i'm being cheap. i need to stop

One of my friends has been natural for 10 years and has done the BC 3 times. She suggested that I cut a little at a time so it's not such a shock when I BC. So, I took her advice and I did a mini chop on Friday, 8/14/09. I cut 5 inches off and it felt so good . I never thought it would feel so liberating cutting my hair but it was. I want to BC in December or January but since I did the mini chop I am itching to do it sooner so I'll see.

you make me wanna go in for a cut. i'm afraid of the Dominicans dealing with my NG, though.

are all of you guys still going to the salons without a problem?

Love your braid and twist outs. I think I do way to many braids and twists. I part my hair down the middle and usually do 3 braids or twists on the sides and about 3 going down in the back. I'm going to try this as a more simple method and get some dag on sleep:-)
Cornrows for braidout:

Flat twists for twistouts:

Hola... Just a question: How many of you ladies are falling in love with your new growth. I AM!!! Everytime I wash my hair or add water to it I can't wait until next year to see more. I just wish I would've done this two years ago so I would be at the end of this journey. But oh well better late than never. :)

not me. the two textures just... *sigh. i wish i could fast forward so i could BC and have the length of a long transition.

Hair Type? 4 something

How many months/weeks/ days post are you? 13 months and a few weeks i think

What is your transitioning plan? transition with various styles for 2 more years, assess length then either start trimming every few months or transition some more (max 4 years definately) i wear my hair in buns, twists lots of ways. rarely straight but i'm getting a maxiglide soon i really like the idea of steam because my hair gets so dry using any form of heat. i dont think it'll make me straighten much more because i just started swimming:)

If you plan to BC, do you have a projected date that you are going to do it? 2011-2012 i really have no urge to cut

Have you experience any problems/ setbacks yet? breakage. i control this with weekly hennaing

What products are you are using? shea butter (only on ends), castor oil (love it), hehh, few pantene products, honey and evoo

I am too! I'll be 9 weeks post tomorrow and love my new growth already. Wish I wouldn't have relaxed in June after a 4 month stretch, because I'd be a little further into my transition now. I actually really started paying attention to and liking my new growth then, but was unsure about transitioning at the time. But I'm on board with this transition now. :yep:

I'm finally FINALLY (!) not constantly thinking of June 2010 (when I'll be fully natural). I'm not as impatient as I used to be... Don't get me wrong, I'm still looking forward to being all natual.

Now I am enjoying my hair - both relaxed ends and natural new growth. Because I'm on a routine of braids (no extensions) for 2 weeks and then twistouts/braidouts for the 2 weeks that my hair's loose, I never look a H.A.M - which was something I used to be worried about :lachen:

Thank you so much
It took a little while to find out what worked for my transition but it definitely was worth the time :yep:
Well done on being over 13 months post!!!!!

mummysgirl: your siggy braidouts and twistouts look so lovely. you seem to have your technique down to a tee

you make me wanna go in for a cut. i'm afraid of the Dominicans dealing with my NG, though.

i've gone quite a few times, with no problem, and my hair turned out looking like i got a fresh relaxer. i just try to make sure when i go i do a hot oil treatment and pre poo before hand, do a deep conditioning treatment with the alto ego, and have them apply my roux leave in (i use the special formulation for chemically processed hair). i know regular use of dominican blowouts isnt recommended, but when i get them, i don't have to use heat for the entire time the style lasts, which can sometimes be up to 2 weeks (if i'm being lazy and dont feel like washing my hair), i just wrap my hair and go. but for me, when i want straight hair, and think about going to a relaxer, it relieves that impulse.

Hair Type? Sigh.... I still dont know!

How many months/weeks/ days post are you? 37 weeks

What is your transitioning plan? BC or cutting up as your hair grows down? Hair styles (weaves, braids, twists...) I plan to do a BC and usually wear half wigs!
If you plan to BC, do you have a projected date that you are going to do it? DECEMBER 9..... MAYBE!

Have you experience any problems/ setbacks yet? I went a week without detangling and regretted it!

What products are you are using? Aussie Moist, Alagio Silk Obsession, Castor Oil, Olive Oil, NTM, shea butter

Yeah that's the stage I'm at. I'm like OMG please hurry up... I stalk natural fotkis all day. Yesterday I had to stop my self because My mind was just going. I just can't wait until the end of the year to see more progress. That should be about the time that my BKT wears off.

Hey LovinLea, I am still wanting to cut it now but I want more NG .

I have stopped going to the salon since my last relaxer a month ago. Over the last year I have been stretching my relaxers. My last stretch was 12 weeks then I relaxed and my hair dresser would always ask me why I waited so long to come and relax. I guess because it was more work for her to deal with but I never told her I was stretching. Anyway, I guess she is not used to relaxing so much NG because my hair was underprocessed, like texlaxed, which I am not really mad about since shortly after I finally decided to go natural. So right now I am dealing with 3 textures (NG, texlaxed, and relaxed) but I am learning as I go through this transition.

Btw, I used to go to the Dominicans to get the "head on fire" blowouts and flat iron and that started to thin out my ends over a period of time. I would be afraid to let anyone deal with my NG unless they understood that I was transitioning and willing to handle my hair with care. Right, now the only person that can do that for me is ME.

Well, I am new to this site, and I'm so glad I found it.:yep: I have no idea how to take care of my hair. For years I've just relax it, and kept it in a bun or a pony tail because 1, i'm in the military, and 2, I have no idea how to style it. My Puerto Rican mother had no idea what to do with my mixed hair when I was young, so she kept it in a short little fro, that had no shape or style...it just went everywhere.:perplexed We couldn't afford a hairdresser, and I just never cared enough to do anything about it. I figure it was hopeless. I've been relaxing my own hair since I was 16, I rarely ever get haircuts and my hair never grows past a certain point because it breaks so much. I thought about going natural before, but I remembered how much I used to get picked on during my middle school years because of my shapeless fro and I scare myself out of it. Anyway, that's my story in a nutshell...sorry for ranting...:spinning:

Hair Type?
3C/4A

How many months/weeks/ days post are you?
12 Weeks

What is your transitioning plan? BC or cutting up as your hair grows down? Hair styles (weaves, braids, twists...)
I plan on cutting it as I go, I need to be able to put my hair up, because of my job.

If you plan to BC, do you have a projected date that you are going to do it? I don't plan on it.

Have you experience any problems/ setbacks yet?
Everyday...Whenever I have to figure out how to style my hair in a way that looks neat and within military standards. I am trying to figure out how to keep my hair slick back and smooth with my new growth wanting to frizz and stick up. I have the relaxer sitting in my bathroom and everytime I look at it, I think how much easier it would be if I just gave up! :nono: I've tried unsuccessfully to do the braids out or twist out, but I think I'm getting better. I'm excited about finally learning how to take care of my natural hair. :yep:

What products are you are using?

- Got to Be Glue, and Beyond the Zone Extra hold Gel. These products help me keep my hair under control when I pull it back into a bun. I'm not sure if this is healthy for my hair, but it works.
- Motions shampoo and conditioner
- Zotos Balsam and Body Conditioner (love this product)

I've been experimenting with many leave in conditioners, and styling products. I can't really recommend anything yet, because I'm still looking for the best products that work for me.

Yay, sounds fun :-)

Hair Type? Don't know, I'm definitely NOT a 3. I have VERY coily new growth. So... 4-something

How many months/weeks/ days post are you? 33.5 weeks (7 months 3weeks 1 day, to be exact :lachen:)

What is your transitioning plan? BC or cutting up as your hair grows down? I want to BC @ 18 months post (79 weeks) but I've decided I can give in EARLIEST @ 15 months (65 weeks) post.

Hair styles (weaves, braids, twists...) Braidouts, Twistouts and braids using my hair only (no extensions) See siggy pic :-)

If you plan to BC, do you have a projected date that you are going to do it? Answered above.

Have you experience any problems/ setbacks yet? Had problems during month 3 and can't even remember what they were - I think some breakage cos I tried something different. Since then, I've been doing much better than I expected. :yep:

What products are you are using?
Cowash cons: Aussie Moist, Suave Humectant and Herbal Essences cons.
Moisturiser: Spritz (Con, EVOO, Glycerin and water), Seal with Shea Mix (Unrefined Shea butter, Castor Oil, Coconut Oil and aloe vera gel)
DC: ORS Replenishing Con with oils
Leave-in: Giovanni Direct Leave-In
Soap: Castille Soap (mixed with EVOO, Jojoba Oil and Water)
Others: Aphogee 2 min reconstructor

I love your hair, I think you are doing great! I can't wait to get that good.
I keep seeing people talking about natural products such as "Unrefined Shea butter, Castor Oil, Coconut Oil and aloe vera gel", where do you find these? sorry if I'm asking stupid questions, but I'm really clueless here.

How many months/weeks/ days post are you? Coming up on 20 wks post

What is your transitioning plan? BC or cutting up as your hair grows down? Hair styles (weaves, braids, twists...) Cut up as I grow down. I usually where twist outs. I plan to get braids.

If you plan to BC, do you have a projected date that you are going to do it? I have no plan to BC right now

Have you experience any problems/ setbacks yet? No huge setbacks yet. My hair does get very dry.

What products are you are using? I love ORS Replenishing pack. NO problems detangling when I DC with this. Shescent it moisture mist. Several Hairveday products.

ETA: I've been trying out several different leave ins and styling aids(mousse, gel etc.) I'm tyring to figure out what my hair likes and what works well for both textures.

Yay! Congrats to you. Almost a year lady. What's it like at 10 months and how are you styling your hair?

It hasn't been too difficult. I co-wash 1 to 2x a week and poo and DC on sundays. So far, I've been bunning it up - it's very easy and keeps me out of my hair. I don't comb at all only on co-wash days when I detangle. I feel like once I make the one year transition mark - it should get even better. Once my natural hair gets to a certain length it will make it much easier to deal with two textures simultaneously.

Welcome Girlie!!!

First of all, throw that relaxer away. Or actually, if you are in the military, I know there is another girl who will take it no problem... Also, the braidouts will come in handy. Also, you can send a private message to amazing (she's in my friends list). She is in the military and transitioning too and has no problem with styling her hair. She can help you with style and tell you what she does. How long is your hair??

Thanks BBD. Good to hear it hasn't been difficult. Hope I am saying the same thing at 10 months cause I am so nervous right about now.

Hair Type? 4a I believe

How many months/weeks/ days post are you?
days shy of 9 months!

What is your transitioning plan? BC or cutting up as your hair grows down? Hair styles (weaves, braids, twists...)
I don't plan to chop at all, I had a set back last September and had to cut my hair to above neck length, so my priority right now is growing my hair LONG and slowly trimming the relaxed hair

If you plan to BC, do you have a projected date that you are going to do it?
If I do bc it will be at least 18 months post or so.

Have you experience any problems/ setbacks yet?
Nope, since I cut my hair due to a previous setback, everything is A-ok!

What products are you are using?
I'm a minimalist, I use J/A/S/O/N's moisturizing poo. For Conditioner Herbal Essences, for protein Motion's CPR, NTM Silk-Touch Leave-In, and if I am wearing braids I use olive oil... that's it!
