For the first year and a half, my regimen was similar to Eisani's. ^^^

Then I switched to weekly rollersets. Sometimes 2x a week.

Started out stretching 12 weeks. Gradually increased it from 14 wks, 16 wks.

Have stretched up to 6 mths, twice. I am currently half-way thru my third 6-mth stretch.

My most successful regimen:
Weeks 1-12, rollerset once or twice weekly.
Weeks 12-24, airdry, flat-iron every two weeks.

I am glad you said this:yep:. I am switching from a daily co-washing bun regimen to a weekly rollersetting regimen for the winter. I don't want any setbacks since co-washing worked so well for me.

Yeah...i'm also a little bit past BSL now...YAY!!!....which was my goal for July....but....i got that plus some....but anyway...i've been co-washing at least 2wice a week and DC every weekend with a cholesterol conditioner and sometimes i add oils like EVOO and peppermint. I keep my hair eith in a french twist or a bun most of the time.....my max use of heat is no more than twice a month....sometimes three times..but no more than that and i always always always sleep with my satin bonnet on my head....always....i cannot go to sleep without it.

HTH!!

im almost bsl. i was co washing and wet bunning everday about a month ago. my question is iff thats what you do now to retain legnth then what will you do in the winter?

i plan on pre pooing, washing, deep conditioning and flat ironing my hair weekly. i know that seems like alot of heat but i use a good heat protectant and only go over each peice once. i will also oil massage my scalp 3 times a week and moisturize and seal 2x a day and wear my hair in a bun everyday.

Learning to be patient enough to detangle slowly and gently and co-washing once or twice a week is what's helped me the most out of everything I do in my regimen. That and deep conditioning with heat at least once a week is doing wonders for my breakage issues.

I co-wash on Wednsdays, co-wash and DC on Sundays, and wear my hair either bunned or in a braidout most of the time. The only heat I use is when I blowdry on medium after washing.

Im 2inches from MBL...not there yet,but I think cowashing, stretching, and bunning/keeping it in a clip has helped me to attain and retain length:yep:

I copy posted it from my fotki.

-relax with Narobi whenever I see a substantial amount on new growth (usually 2-3 months)
-trim 2-4 a year
-Ors creamy aloe every other wash or so
-Mizani bodifying shampoo every wash
-Mizani moistrufuse moisturizng dc
-Ors Replenishing Pack (sometimes I add Roux Porosity Control) 15 mins
-Organics Hair Mayo for protein (whenever I feel like it or see breakage.sometimes I add an egg)
-I detangle with just for me detangling spray leave in conditioner and LTR leave in and and add Fantasia heat protecting serum for colored hair (the blue bottle) and dry under the pibbs til 80 percent dry and then blow dry with the comb attatchment
-I next flat iron with no additional product on high heat (380-400)with my Sedu
-Moisturize with sunsilk hydra tlc sealed with fantasia olive oil serum AS NEEDED ONLY (usually every other day, sometimes once a day). I use very little product when moisturizing.
-oil scalp with a mix of tea tree and jojoba oil 1-3 times a week
-sleep either on satin bonnets or with a silk scarf
-comb using shower comb
-cross wrap, wrap, or pincurl

How I reached this length? Started out with the natural midback length hair. Relaxed it with affirm sensitive scalp, and lost length over time due to me,a scissor happy stylist and the no lye relaxer. Coming to LHCF my hair was approaching brastrap with long layers.

Regimen

just switched from affirm lye to affirm fiberguard lye

usually relax every 8-10 weeks. Just went five days short of three months.

usually trim every other relaxer

weekly detangle, prepoo, poo, dc, rollerset toying with idea of dc 2x a week

have used mt on scalp sporadically still figuring how to use it

moisturize 2x a day or less as needed seal with a light oil

maintain rollersets with 2-4 bantu knots or pincurls at night

if wearing hair up wear 2-4 braids at night

when I am home my hair stays up

My philosophy: give my hair what it needs and leave it the heck alone

I see most of you do the kiss thing and a lot of PS, I always though long haired girls would wear it out all the time......:perplexed

I know it's kinda sad in a way, for me if I have long healthy hair I want it out, not stuck in a bun 90% of the time. You can't win you bun to protect your ends but then you have all this progress that you can't show.

That's because they're trying to get even longer. If you are satisfied once you get to your goal length, then you can stop or dramatically reduce protective styling because you can afford to trim off as much as you grow each month if it gets damaged.

i think it's just that people get into the habit of protecting their hair and retaining length, so it because very difficult to expose it to the elements, even though if/when it breaks / they trim the damage, they will still have BSL / MBL / WL hair.

Please share how you reached this length and your reggie. I am slightly beyond bsl but I am stuck there! Please help! Also share if you bun on a regular basis as well...

I wear my hair up 90% of the time. I just started wearing my hair down. I wear my hair down for a week and then keep it up in a baggied ponytail for 2/3 weeks. I use to do everything under the sun to grow my hair. Now, for the last year. I have just been keeping it simple (due to lack of funds):lachen: I lost my job last October so I couldn't splurge like I had been when I first joined:grin: Although, I have a great job NOW, I still choose to keep it simple because my hair is growing nicely without all the extras. Anywho, I wash my hear with shampoo and deep condition once a week, rotating between a moisturizing conditioner and light protein conditioner, baggy ends and that's it. I use BT occassionally now but I use to use BT faithfully. Oh, and I conditioner wash, once or twice a week. I'm going to start back taking my viviscal but other than that....that's it:yep: and my hair is growing nicely:grin:

I co wash my hair about 3-4xs a week because I've started to work out. Before then I would only cowash about every other week 1-2xs. I shampoo wash once a week and deep condtion my hair, at least, once a week. I air dry my hair with a moisturizer or leave in conditioner and seal with bhrinjaraj indian oil(i know I probably didn't spell that right, lol). I prepoo with a honey- avocado home made mask before shampoo washes. When I don't deep condition, I just use a leave in conditioner and when I do deep condition, I skip the leave in and just use my daily moisturizer. I clarify when needed and hardly find a need for protein treatments, unless its touch up time or right before touch up time and soon after. WAsh, condition, moisturize and sealing has been the key for my hair growth. My hair is always in a bun unless I am going clubbing or something or for special occasions. I just don't feel the need to have my hair out if I am lounging around the house, attending school or work. It's mostly up in a loose bun or in side Indian braids. I use an ayurveda spritz, too, for moisturizing. I've learned that a lot of home remedies and natural products really helps my hair to thrive.

use only natural homemade products with oils/wash once a week/wash hair in 4 braids/keep hair moisturized with water and oil/my hair is in a bun just about all the time/I don't use shampoo. very simple

I'm mostly in some kind of protective style. This year I've been keeping my twists in for months. I've gotten REALLY lazy with my hair, no weekly washes, no DCs and no moisture like I used to. I have matted in her in the middle to back of my head. Not good.

Gosh all I see is co wash co wash co wash. I haven't found a single conditioner that I can co wash with. i'm scared to use cheapies.

Thanks for this thread it's very inspiring. I like the idea of bunning.

Why are you scarred of using cheapies?

I find cheapies good, don't have to dilute them and I could careless if most of the product runs down the shower drain - which it does

Using cheapies has gotten me from SL to where I am now. So you can use me as a testimonial if you want, if it helps ;).

You just need to find the right one that works good for you.

You can add additional kitchen ingredients to them if you want, which I do every now and then.

I'm scared of the ingredients in cheapies. Can you suggest any? I've been looking for suave and Vo5 milks all over London I still haven't found any.

I will use you as inspiration for sure. :yep:

I did try a pre poo with pantene mixed with bananas honey and olive oil but it left my hair hard. the latter products never do that so it had to be the cheapie.

Once I transition from braids to hair out. I will definitely consider co washing.

Thanks for replying to my post

Awww girl, I didn't know you were overseas.

I totally understand how you might be a bit worried about ingredients. I am too to a certain extent. But..... if I find a product that does what I need it to do really well, I'll go on and use it and just be thankful I found something :ohwell:.

Pantene...hmm. I had gotten some samples from them for a poo and conditioner - can't remember "flavor". I didn't like it and left my hair feeling icky too.

How about the online stores? Do they ship overseas (without costing a small fortune?).

Sheesh, you'd think that these days most products would be easily available for everyone. :(

I'm sure you will find the perfect products eventually, it's just so darned frustrating getting to that point.

ETA: Vo5 and Sauve are my forever staples. Nature's Gate and Aubrey Organics are really good too.

Hang in there girl!

I co wash 2 or 3 times a week....and i shampoo and deep condition every week.
I always deep condition for over an hour when i know i'm gonna be using heat...as well as a heat protectant.

I cowash daily and usually style my hair in a single braid (conditioner left in) or a ponytail with jojoba oil under aloe gel).

I deep condition 1-2 times a week and relax every 10-12 weeks.

I try to keep things simple and inexpensive. I cowash weekly with VO5 or Suave conditioner then rollerset with plain water in a spray bottle. I dry with a bonnet dryer for about an hour, then finish airdrying overnight.

I touchup my texlax every 13/14 weeks. For the first 4/5 weeks post texlax, I wear buns and updos. After that, until my next touchup, I wear spiral sets and twistouts. I moisturize my ends daily with water and always wear a silk scarf and satin bonnet to bed.

I think what I do internally has made more of a positive impact on my progress than the external. I make sure that I have a healthy diet (most of the time :look:), regular exercise, drink plenty of water, get adequate sleep and avoid stress.

This routine has gotten me to within 1 inch of WL.

Well one thing that's for sure from reading these posts (which I thank you all for ladies) is that CO washing frequently definitely doesn't hurt. I'm going to try doing it every 2 days. My hair is in chunky braids so I can redo them every 3-4 weeks when messy. Keep it coming ladies :)
