I did this the other day; turned out great! And I love your results ..

For all the people afraid: I was too, I actually didn't plan on doing it but couldn't find my blowdryer and was too lazy to dig to the bottom of the drawer. So glad I couldn't and I'll probably never go back to dry flatironing.

Thanks for posting Shtow! It looks amazing!

Funny how we didnt plan on it! It yields AMAZING results:spinning:

I gave in and tried this too. Lol! I told my study partner what I did and she screamed, "girl you're crazy!" After I left her feel how soft my hair was she went, "hmm, how exactly did you do it cuz i'mma try it tonight."

Lol...this technique is really something. But i'm still chicken so I'm getting a wet-2-dry flat iron to officially begin my wet flat ironing. Thanks to all you ladies who were brave enough to try this!

great job, shtow. welcome to the dark side, where we swang and blang from wet (really just damp) flatironing.

your shine is outrageous.

I'm scared to do this with my Chi. I ordered a Jilbere Porcelain Vented Wet/Dry Flat Iron. Should I be nervous that it is Porcelain? Has anyone ever used Porcelain Flat Irons before??

Girl your hair is da BOMB.....I'm a punk right now, but if it can eliminate the blow drier then it's probably worth it, I might try it, but I need the whole understanding if the hair is very damp, towel damp, or half way dry? I know it's not soaking wet, but I need to know how wet.....and I might have to get another flat iron.....but I am loving your hair though.....

aawww thanks! Towel damp is def a no no Id say more than half way dry. 60-80 percent dry.

its a wet to dry iron so you should be good:yep:
I never used porcelain tho.

Hats off to you Shtow!! Your hair is beautiful! I'm d/cing under the dryer now, so I guess I'll venture here and wrap before going to bed. I've done this in the past and I'm not scurred, so thanx for the extra boost of confidence :yep:

you have beautiful hair! It kind of looks like mines. We could be twins!

it looks really moist.

does that sound weird? haha.

it does, though...you can tell that your hair is good and moisturized

really healthy looking, too!

How do yall do this without making the other hair wet again? that you just straightened? Are the people doing this natural? Are you natural? My roommate used to do this and told me eventually her hair started breaking because the hot water damaged her hair

has anyone been doing this for a long time (a few months)? While i was tempted to try this last week, i was scared away by the thought that water boils at 212 degrees and i flatiron my hair btwn 300 and 370.

Does anyone have any reasoning that explains why the extra water would not boil, expand, and damage the hair shaft/cuticle? I'm interesting in trying this because it would obviously cut down on heat usage since i wouldn't be blowdrying as much, but i would be flat ironing the same amount.

I've been doing this since Sept 2008, I flat iron REGULARLY as it's my preferred method of styling and has shown no adverse effects on my hair.

In my fotki I have pics and there is a thread here with how I did it. My hair is in better shape now than it's ever been. It is wise that you DRY YOUR HAIR a bit before flat ironing so that it's damp and not sopping wet, you should only use a ceramic iron or a wet to dry iron (either will work), and you use heat protectant and a leave in. Damage likely occurs if you try this on soaking wet hair with no products on it and cheap irons.

To avoid your hair from getting wet you should pull it up like you're going to do a high ponytail and just clip it with a butterfly clip or one of those large plastic duck bill clips. Starting at the nape, make a small part with 1 inch thick or less hair from left right across your hair. Divide that into two or three smaller sections and flat iron. I like to do one pass, comb the small section once with a fine tooth comb, and then do a second pass if needed.

Oh yes, always use the lowest heat setting needed to get your hair straight. I never exceed 278 degrees.

Love your silky hair girlfriend... and I'm no punk either!!!! :lachen::lachen::lachen:

I only flat iron damp hair. NEVER 100% dry! NEVER EVA EVA!

My hair has been thanking me ever since I went to the dark side!!! LOL...

i totally did this tonight after reading this. i did it the other day, but i had rollerset my hair before and it didn't come out the same. i braided it up to stretch it, sat under the dryer for 10 mins, then flat ironed. my hair has swang...never thought i would say that from straightening my OWN hair, tell ya that...

Im relaxed. I just pin the hair up that is wet and work from the bottom up so the hair on the bottom is dry and as I work my way up I straighten. It could be several factors that made her hair break
