What kind of Growth did YOU get from Megatek?

I have been using MT for a little over a month. I started out at 10 inches in length. I washed my hair and flat ironed a few sections last night just to spot check and I was 11 inches in a couple areas and 12 inches in another. So, MT has worked for me. I mix it with Indian oils and apply it to the scalp only for 4 days a week and deep condition with a moisterizer every week. I take garlic capsules to combat the sheeding.

I used Megatek from mid-July through the beginning of September and was able to get 1 inch of growth a month. So a total of 2 inches. Normally I get 1/2 inch a month of new growth. I would co-wash at night and apply to my scalp, then co-wash again in the morning. I never applied it to my hair and never used it to deep condition either.

I liked it, I didn't shed, I just got lazy. I had no side effects from using it. I might purchase another bottle in the spring. The thing with MegaTek is that you have to use it consistently for at least a month before you see any type of progress. If anyone dumped the product after 2 weeks it makes sense why it didn't work. I'll buy it off ya!

ive only been using MT for almost 2 weeks.. im not even checking for length this early. Im not going to check until the end of Feb ( A total of 6 wks ) Oh yeah and im going to flat iron it straight, and wear the same bra from my starting picture.

I only put in on my scalp. I might put it throughout the whole head once, for a protein treatment. Sorry its not much help.. but i will be your experiment, and i will post the pics in 3.5 weeks!

I started using Megatek on Jan 20th only after reading through about 100 threads on this site in order to learn how to most effectively use it. So far I love what it is doing to my hair. I pays to research. I started taking garlic pills 1 week before I started my Mega Tek treatment routine. As a result, I have had zero shedding and my hair has gotten so strong and healthy. I DC so no problems with dryness. Also, it slightly altered my hair texture. It is much straighter to my surprise. I am going to give it 3 months to see what other improvements occur. So far I am very pleased. I hope I experience the length and thickness that others have testified about. We'll see what happens in 3 months.

I used Pantene's Relaxed and Natural DC as well as L'Oreal's product for taming frizzy hair (it's in the orange bottle and smells like heaven!) I made sure the DC did NOT contain any protein as many DCs do.

Others have used ORS, Pantene's Relaxed and Natural DC hair mask, Neutrogena Triple Moisture (NTM), and some others I noticed being mentioned frequently. They also would seal the moisture with an oil. anyone who uses MT well will use an excellent moisturizing DC to have full benefits.

Don't forget the garlic - either topical or internal (if taking internally, just don't overdo because it's a natural blood thinner and can make AF heavier...and nobody wants that!!! :nono:)

Check out the MT/OCT thread. It's exceptionally informational and the ladies are really helpful and ridiculously encouraging there.

I hope this helps.

Blessings,
cj

Yes, that helps, thank you! I think the majority of the conditioners I have are protein conditioners. Looks like I'm going to have to go shopping

I also think that the women who have had great results are probably just staying on the MT/OCT thread for the most part. JustKiya, Shimmie, Aggie, and a good number of others have had increased growth and strength. I have as well. If you look on my Fotki when I had my hair down (I think it was Aug/Sept of last year), you will see a sharp difference in length from when I started to when I length checked right before putting in my twists. My Dec. takedown was also a nice surprise for me.

MT did better for me with my hair down than in twists/braids.

My last comment: I think the people who have had success have taken a lot of time to learn how to use the products and to avoid its pitfalls. It's a really heavy protein and it fills in rough edges of the cuticle to build it back up...but you can get too much of a good thing. (If you think about the fact it can fill in horse hooves, then you might get a better idea of how strong MT is.) They know how to moisturize, combat the shedding, and they know what works best for their hair. Some use MT and OCT in conjunction with one another for best results.

Overall, I think it is an excellent product. I don't think it is something to be avoided...just used correctly.

My regimen when my hair was down was to use it ONCE per week as an after shampoo conditioner on the full length of my hair for 5-10 minutes. No longer for me. Then, I would use a moisturizing DC for at least 30 minutes...often an hour. That is critical. Garlic for shedding, and it's done!

I hope you find what you need.

Blessings,
cj

I used MegaTek one time, left on scalp overnight, and now my hair is HARD, STRINGY, and feels STRIPPED...:wallbash:. It was too strong for my fine/thin hair. What should I do to get back moisture? What moisturizing DC can you recommend?

nothing great
I've seen an improvement, but I think its because I've been protective styling.
The ends of my hair were constantly tangled and snapping off, and now they are not, so now I think I'm finally retaining length.
I may retire the MT or just use it along my edges or something

I've gotten way more growth than I expected. I started using MT in December about 4 weeks post--with NO new growth showing. I wanted to stretch till the end of February but that MT made my hair grow like crazy. So I ended up relaxing the on Jan 24th. It was really exciting relaxing my hair and actually seeing a difference in length. Truthfully the whole reason I got MT in the first place was because of all the posts saying your hair gets thicker before it gets longer--the thickness that I long for hasn't come yet--but the length certainly has.

Firstly i love Mega Tek and i have been using it consistently now for 4 months i will do a length check again at end of March.

I will def say i got thickness first then i saw the length in December 08.
I'd say i'm retaining an inch every month which i know was not happening before.

I have been using MT for a week and a half and will continue to do so barring any adverse effects, for at least 3 months. Like any other product be it skincare, haircare, etc it will not work for everyone, because we are all different genetically. When I had acne breakouts I kept asking friends with clear skin what they used - I would try their recommendations and most would not clear MY skin, so I have learned not to criticize any product just because it did not work out for me. Same with ORS replenishing Pak - lots of ladies love it but it left my hair dry and hard. Big deal. I won't knock it but move on to the next possibilty. I love that I have so many options and can make an informed choice. It's great that many have found MT beneficial. For those who have not, wish them the best in finding their own great product.

i have been using MT since July and it has done wonders for my 4a/b hair for thickness and strength. I have also received length but not as much as i thought i would. I added OCT to my regimen for length.. MT is still a staple for me.

I have been using MT for 4 weeks now and I can't say that I have noticed thickness, probably because I use it mainly as a growth aid (using it directly on my scalp) rather than a conditioner on my hair. I will venture to say that I have noticed more growth. I will know for sure once I relax my hair in another two weeks. I will have stretched for 10 weeks and I hope to gain at least an inch of growth :)

Now that everyone is sharing their stories I just started realizing my hair has had aloooooooot of shedding, but they said it'll do that and to get garlic shampoo and I did but it still sheds. Also my hair hasost alooooooooot of moisture to.

Yeah, that reminds me the first two weeks that I used MT I did get a lot of shedding but then I started taking garlic supplements daily and using olive oil and garlic mixed together as a conditioner and now I have little to no shedding.

I love MT/OCT. I have gained length but, not a great deal of thickness. I do agree with OP, most pictures are not consistant. Last year, Aug-Dec my pics were wet and it was extremely hard to see the growth. This year, I have begun flat ironed pics in the same top (non adjustable) and at the same spot in my bathroom so that I can get a true gage on growth.

What I do know is that I was que ball bald in several locations when I started MT/OCT in August and now I have a min of 3 inches in some portions and as much as 5 inches on others. This is in bald spots that responded to nothing else, not MTG, MN, BT, EOs...nothing but MT/OCT.

DOesnt mean anything to me if others dont believe it because I am a customer for life. If you want to sell your unused OCT or MT pm me. I'll pay postage and try to work out some type or reimbursement for your lose.

I have been using Mega Tek for 4 weeks...well it will be 4 weeks exactly in 2 days. I have not noticed any growth at all. I will wait until month 2 to measure it. I have noticed that my texture has change to a more wavy pattern and it is stronger and more manageable. Lucky for me I never had any problems with shedding. yeeey!:weird: . Its all good. I am giving it 3 months to really see results because thats what I read in several of the threads when I did my research before Mega Tek-ing. Hair supposedly grows 1/2 in a month. So I should have 1 1/2 noticeable inches by the middle of April '09.
Happy Mega Tek-ing everyone!!

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I forgot about this thread. :wallbash: Actually, I used Neutrogena Triple Moisture and Pantene's relaxed and Natural conditioner as DCs tonight. I put on a WHOLE lot after my MT (which I actually left in for 45 minutes tonight because we had a family meeting and I lost track of the time), secured my hair on top of my head and left the conditioner in for a little over an hour. My hair is soft and shiny and just really nice. I recall the length I got just this past Sept by using MT once per week on the length of my hair and want to see what happens for the month that I am out of my braids. I hope you find something that works. MT seems to add thickness first and then length.

Blessings!

I swear when I started MT, I didn't see an improvement. I even started a thread on how much of a joke it was. I started using it in July with braids. But then I took down my braids in about a month in a half and noticed about an inch of NG. Keep in mind my rate was about 1/4 a month. It doesn't show the most dramatic results but when you flat iron, or take down braids it shows. I am now mixing mines with BT. And I used Vitamin E oil to help lighten the intensity of shedding. I say get it, if you are not spending your last dime on it. Only you will know what it can do for your hair.

I have to say that I love MT. I use it on my scalp and new growth with oil (Kemi Oyl or Coconut). I notice strength and thickness more than growth. I know this because I used it late last year and then stopped, I noticed the difference between using and not using, so I recently bought some more.

I have been using MT since Augs. 2008 and I have some good growth. I am natural and I have always saturated my hair with oils before I shampoo and combined my oils with conditioner. MT has worked for me. I use it every other day

Honestly, I did notice when I was using it consistently 3x a week and taking my supplements properly, I noticed an increase in the thickness of my hair. But I have since fallen off due to laziness, so I would not know if the results were consistent over long-term use

Here's my MT testimonial OP.

I don't use MT straight. Currently, my mixture is 60% MT. I apply it 3x/week before bed and co-wash 2-3x/week. I also DC 1x/week.

I started using an MT mixture late Oct 2008. I chose to add MT to my regimen after reviewing the opinions (yeas and nays) on other threads regarding the effectiveness of growths-aids. My goal was to have healthy, thick, and long hair. MT seemed like the best fit in support of that goal.

Pre-MT my hair grew on average 0.5"/month. I was satisfied with that growth rate so I wasn't looking to speed it up. However, I always had a problem with length retention. I have never been past SL.

Prior to MT, I used henna to not only cover my gray but to help my edges grow back from too heavy locs. The henna helped my edges a little bit but I didn't think the benefits out-weighed the hassle. After a month, I would see a lot of gray hair, but I needed at least 6 weeks to recover from the previous henna/indigo drama in order to apply it again.

When I started MT, I stopped using henna and indigo because I wanted to use my gray hair as an indicator of growth. I also stopped all other products containing protein. With 2-3x weekly applications of an MT mixture to only my scalp I noticed my new growth was a lot thicker and stronger. It was also easier to maintain. Regarding my edges, the MT tremendously helped. The thickness and length increased (too long to brush in with the rest of my hair but too short to set in buns/twists/bantu knots). But, my overall growth rate seemed the same to me.

I took garlic supplements which prevented the shedding but I got lazy and stopped. I did experience a lot of shedding no more than a week after stopping, but a garlic/EVOO pre-poo treatment halted it. I have since done a 2nd garlic/EVOO treatment. If I remember, I take a garlic supplement, but I'm not consistent about it. I'm not consistent about taking my multi-vitamin supplements as well. Also, I haven't exercised in over two months, and I drink too much coffee and not enough water.

The true test of MT usage occurred when I over-processed my hair during the new year. I kept a texturizer on my NG 2x's longer (16 min/half) than necessary. My NG came out bone straight but surprisingly strong. Based on my previous experience with relaxers and texturizers I am confident I would be sporting a TWA had I not used MT. That Oops experience sealed the deal in making MT a staple in my regimen.

I have since added A-vedic co-washes and mild protein treatments to my regimen. Even though I only add MT to my scalp, I recently discovered the rest of my hair especially my ends need weekly mild protein treatments.

Sorry for the long post. I hope it helps you in your decision making process.

I am also confident that if you try MT and if you don't like it then you will not have any issues finding some one to buy it from you.

Happy hair growing,
Ivy S
