I really need to know before I make my last decision and buy it!! How many inches did you get? How fast did it grow? Were there any problems? How did you use it?

i had no significant growth from it. i applied it to my braids and on my scalp every night for 2 weeks. i use it as a dc now. i like the dc results but i will not repurchase.

that was the last forum bandwagon i will ever jump on

MegaTek makes my hair hard and it feels so stripped :(. It's a brand new bottle but it is so outta here...don't want to use it no more :nono:! I'm on the re-bound, trying hard to recover all that softness I had with the Cantu and Coconut Oil.

Are you trying to donate it to charity, maybe? My hair is stronger with MT. I use a moisturizing conditioner twice a week and I avoid all protein products. My hair is thicker and a bit longer too.

Live and learn...oh well, moving right along. I want to try another growth aid...got my eye on Blended Tresses. You have a trade? Something didn't work for you, maybe... if not, don't worry about it. If you pay for shipping...this bottle is YOURS...:yep:. My loss is your gain...but I just don't want to be stuck with this stuff and forcing myself to use it knowing good well my hair hates it. I will miss the pretty smell though, is that so wrong...:perplexed?

Actually thinking about it I haven't really gotten much growth from it.....but it is a good treatment. I have 1 and a half bottles left and when I run out I probably won't buy again until August or September.

I ordered my bottle yesterday because I have experienced severe thinning due to stretching and im in desperate need to get my healthy thickness back. So ill check back after I start using it..

What in tarnations is going on here? Where are all the ladies that have used it and gotten really good results. I've used it for a week and its all gone (relax I brought the 2oz. jar)
I'm looking at it on Ebay right now, and before I spend my money on a bottle (this time) I need to know! LOL

You know, I'm actually not all that surprised at the responses. From reading all the long threads (yes I've read all of them) and looking at the progress, I don't think most people have gotten anything but regular growth. And, those who've experienced more thickness seem like it's due to the fact that their hair may have needed more protein in general.

I don't know. I'm just not convinced. I've seen maybe two posters with progress pictures that really convinced me that MegaTek increased their actual hair growth, and it wasn't just due to better haircare, diet, and retention.

I purchased MegaTek and OCT and wasn't really impressed with either. FOR ME, the shedding and unnecessary breakage was awful!

My regimen is pretty much very simple but I wanted to enhance my growth - FOR ME, it was a waste of money so I'm gonna stick with MN/castor oil/sulfur mix. I have a half bottle of OCT that is collecting dust.

Scale of one to ten: Five... Just my opinion and I don't mean to discourage anyone from using it, it just isn't for me... Sorry.

I read the "Protein is my Friend" thread and Learned a lot about protein...and the whole protein/moisture balance. Needless to say, I didn't follow it with a moisture treatment. With that said, I am going to give the MegaTek one more try....but I'm scared...:perplexed. I will NOT leave in MegaTek overnight again....:wallbash:. Plus, follow up with a moisture treatment. I hope this makes a difference. I have to search the forum for a good moisture treatment now....

I understand what you are saying, but whether they "actually" had increased growth or not, many may have "perceived" they had increased growth and I am a little surprised that more people haven't come in here praising the effectiveness of these two products. I just started using them and I know there is a difference in thickness, but the jury is still out on length. I also agree that it is hard to tell what is actually causing the change - I have been doing so many new things and taking such better care of myself and my hair, that I don't know if I can attribute any success to MT or OCT alone.

It hasnt made my hair grow over night but I have had my bottle for over 3months and has made a difference to the way my hair feels as well as a bit of growth.

Once using from Sept 08 I have stayed away from any protein. I do condition washes twice a week and I apply megatek on the scalp and ends, cover my hair with scarf and hat and go about my business. When I get back home I apply olive oil moisturizer. I also try and apply MT before bed and cover with a scarf. I dont wash it out as by the time I wake up it has sank into my hair. The key thing that I think has helped I have a little pot or you can use an old pot of face moisturizer. So I pour in a bit of MT and mix with some castor oil and just a bit of either jojoba or avocado oil(even olive oil -whatever is available)...mainly the castor oil as I think this help with absorbtion of the MT. The twice weekly co-washes have helped balance out the protein in the MT....Hopely that helps someone. Using MT has also helped me simplify my regi which means less manipulation involving other products: hence the PJ in me has had to calm down a bit!:yep:

Hi Friend - yes you have to follow up with a deep condish - I would recommend leaving the MT on for 15-30 minutes rinse and maybe doing the moisturizing dc overnight (if you don't feel like rinsing it out immediately) it will make a world of difference...you could also use the MT as a prepoo, shampoo then follow up with your moisturizing dc...

I used it from Sept 08 - Dec 08 and I liked it. Was it the MT that helped with growth...I don't really know. It was probably a combination of getting more protien, bunning more often, co-washing every other day, and only using heat once a month. I think it helped me to stay out of my hair so in turn I retained more length than I normally would have.

I also think that the women who have had great results are probably just staying on the MT/OCT thread for the most part. JustKiya, Shimmie, Aggie, and a good number of others have had increased growth and strength. I have as well. If you look on my Fotki when I had my hair down (I think it was Aug/Sept of last year), you will see a sharp difference in length from when I started to when I length checked right before putting in my twists. My Dec. takedown was also a nice surprise for me.

MT did better for me with my hair down than in twists/braids.

My last comment: I think the people who have had success have taken a lot of time to learn how to use the products and to avoid its pitfalls. It's a really heavy protein and it fills in rough edges of the cuticle to build it back up...but you can get too much of a good thing. (If you think about the fact it can fill in horse hooves, then you might get a better idea of how strong MT is.) They know how to moisturize, combat the shedding, and they know what works best for their hair. Some use MT and OCT in conjunction with one another for best results.

Overall, I think it is an excellent product. I don't think it is something to be avoided...just used correctly.

My regimen when my hair was down was to use it ONCE per week as an after shampoo conditioner on the full length of my hair for 5-10 minutes. No longer for me. Then, I would use a moisturizing DC for at least 30 minutes...often an hour. That is critical. Garlic for shedding, and it's done!

I hope you find what you need.

Blessings,
cj

I used MT for the first time today, so I can't really put in any real input yet, but my hair didn't feel much different from when I wash it any other time. My hair is REALLY dry and damaged and I'm still looking for a good moisturizing DC. For those who have used MT, was DC did you follow it up with?

I haven't been using MT long enough to be able to tell about results. It's only been a couple of weeks, but I can say that I had to do my last touchup a few weeks earlier than I had anticipated. And I have had far less shedding than I was expecting (I take garlic supplements and moisturize regularly).

I used Pantene's Relaxed and Natural DC as well as L'Oreal's product for taming frizzy hair (it's in the orange bottle and smells like heaven!) I made sure the DC did NOT contain any protein as many DCs do.

Others have used ORS, Pantene's Relaxed and Natural DC hair mask, Neutrogena Triple Moisture (NTM), and some others I noticed being mentioned frequently. They also would seal the moisture with an oil. anyone who uses MT well will use an excellent moisturizing DC to have full benefits.

Don't forget the garlic - either topical or internal (if taking internally, just don't overdo because it's a natural blood thinner and can make AF heavier...and nobody wants that!!! :nono:)

Check out the MT/OCT thread. It's exceptionally informational and the ladies are really helpful and ridiculously encouraging there.

I hope this helps.

I agree that most people with great results are staying in those threads. They are long but if you want to learn about the product and see all the progress pictures, you definitely need to read them.

I think I'm just a skeptic about MT because none of the reported progress has been really convincing.

1. Most people don't know or have proof of what their growth rate was before MT, so they can't really compare their progress to anything. If you say you got 1/4 in before and now you're getting 1/2in, that's great, but where's the proof?

2. The majority of people not only started MT but also added other things at the same time including a better diet, other growth aids, scalp massages, exercise, and better general health care. So can they truly say that MT was the deciding factor in their growth? No. I would like to see the difference from someone who didn't change anything in their regimen or lifestyle except for MT.

3. This is my biggest pet peeve...progress pics. They are so inaccurate and misleading. I mean there are people whose first pic is of curly or airdried hair and then their second pic is of bone straight flat ironed or relaxed hair. Obviously there's going to be a difference in length when comparing the two pictures, and it has nothing to do with MT. Or people pull hair from one spot on their head and then choose a different spot for their next picture. Or, they tilt their head more or change positions from picture to picture. I mean how is that supposed to prove anything?

Maybe I'm being extra, but I can't believe something until I see it. And what I'm seeing is not true "progress". I'm not saying anyone is purposely being misleading, but most people are definitely not being accurate. It's just that we're all so determined to achieve growth that we're not really paying attention to the details sometimes and wasting money in the process looking for a miracle.

^ I am in agreement with you that it can seem like there have not been good results at all or that the results have been as a result of multiple factors. The thing is, however, the thickness and strength are very real benefits...not imagined...which over time can add to length as well.

I understand your skepticism and don't fault you; you're not being extra. I'm the same way.

I hate that I don't have better comparison pics, but I did have noticeable growth in about 25 days...maybe an inch. I thought I was imagining it, but I was not. I asked multiple people and they saw the same thing. The pics don't lie. My hair is not long :nono: by ANY stretch, but MT works very well for me when my hair is loose. I can't tell yet with the twists because I have not used it as consistently in the twists. I used no other products outside of shampoo and DC. No Ayurveda, tea rinses or anything else because I am cheap with my time. :lachen:

I love MegaTek. I do hope that you find something that works for you. It's not a miracle product, but it really is a great product and can help the growth and thickening process if used the right way. I understand what you are saying, though.

Hope I have not added to any confusion or frustration...

Blessings,
cj

And there you have it.

I been here too long to be sidetracked.

Ladies, stick to the basics.....it will grow.:yep:

Thats what I'm saying now im kinda regreting buying it lol

I'm comfortable in saying this now, but I spent sleepless nights justifying purchasing either MT or OCT because I wanted faster growth so bad. Already having protein products and having recovered from protein overload breakage, I decided to wait and wait and wait until I learned of other people's results.

Now, I'm glad (not at you all's expense) that I just stuck with my regime of patience. I know what works for some doesn't with others but I've read too many complaints in other threads too about these and other growth aids.

I got the eeeny weeny little 2oz jar of Mega Tek. I have not seen any substantial growth, but I have been experiencing increased strength, which is very new to me, I can't remember the last time my hair was this soft and strong at the same time. I am also bunning, so it is helping with me not really noticing how my hair feels dirty. Does anyone else's hair feel a little dirty when they put the Mega Tek in? I just can't wait until wash day this friday!
