I notice as the days get closer to my weekly wash i see more breakage...nothing alarming...but noticable.

Is this the case for you guys too?

Only when I moisturized a lot. Maybe you could wash 2x a week or wash once and CW the other time.

This is what I do to prevent it also...I can go about 4 days on a fresh rollerset, then cowash until the next wash day.

Its cold out here, so I only wash every week. But I think 2x a week is what I need, or at least a co-wash in between. If I only do once a week, it get dried out around the time I need it washed.

Yep this is what happens to me. It's because of product buildup. I try to wash 2x a week so that doesn't happen.

I haven't noticed that. For the last couple of weeks, I had been losing an alarming amount of hair, enough to make a dr. appointment. What I did notice, is that the longer my hair I got the more I would lose . I was BSL length, 2 days ago I cut it to APL and the hair loss stopped. I'm suggesting this to you, but it's something to think about.

I know you use biosilk. But how often during the week? If you use it anymore than three times during the week it is probably building up. With what and how often do u clarify?

My hair sheds more the less I wash it even though I don't use a lot of product.

My strands are fine but I have a lot of them, so my hair is thick.

I also think b/c I cowash often I don't get that. If I went longer without cowashing between, then I can imagine I would.

No, I don't have a problem with breakage. I wash once/week and moisturize my ends daily with plain water...that way my hair remains moisturized with no product buildup.

I wash twice a week with baby shampoo, one lather....this for me is the right mix of washing away product buildup, but does not strip my hair of all of it's natural moisture.

As with the other posters...you should try a cowash in the middle of the week...I went thru this, definitely product build up...Its "brick" in NY and I sill cowash, but at night seal with my hair oil in a scarf overnight :)

Thanks OP for starting this thread. I've been experiencing breakage as well and I attributed it to the cold. I just had a trim 2 weeks ago and the month before that. Maybe it is product build up. With it being so cold I have been seriously neglecting my hair. I'll see what happens over the next week and take it from there. Please keep the advice coming ladies!

I think this has been said before in other threads and PatienceVirtue alludes to it too. Co-wash does not = wash & go. You can do it at night and let you hair airdry overnight. That way it doesn't matter how cold it is outside. I wash 1x/wk and co-wash 1x/wk.

I WASH 1X A WEEK. I THINK I'M TO LAZY TO DO ANY MORE. IF I TRY TO GO 8 DAYS MY SCALP JUST FLAKES LIKE CRAZY

ITA with the posters who said you can co-wash in the winter. I've been cowashing daily and it's been cold as heck somedays. I've always done it at night, even in the summer.

I agree with prospurr. I was doing 2ce weekly wash and DC, but now that my hair is healthy AND it's cold outside, I'm only doing a once a week wash & DC.

During the week I don't add a lot more products to my hair.

I've been doing twistouts for my style choice, so after a wash I add lots of leave-in (Suave coconut cond) then castor oil and shea butter to my wet hair, and twist. The hair stays moisturized for days, I add more product(mostly water/SAA mix) and refresh the twists mid-week, staying away from heavy 'cones, at least for the first part of the week.

***I do use NTM silk touch or Organix coconut or Sunsilk on my ends while styling the twist-out in the morning, all of these have 'cones, but going on top of moisturized hair it doesn't coat and dry out my hair, I think that makes the difference.

Last week on wash day, I added a petroleum product after the leave-in and it made my hair hard, but if I use "grease" mid-week, it works out okay.

I'm still getting my regimen together, but this has been working so far.

I think it's because the hair is getting dryer.

Moisturizers are meant to be support products to help keep moisture in your hair. At least for me, I can only go sooo long without rewashing and TRULY replenishing with water before increased breakage is inevitable.

I notice that too, but I don't have time and it's too dang cold to wash more than once week. Toward the end of the week, I wear my hair up and just pincurl at night. I don't comb until wash day.

Eureka! I really think this is why I've been having breakage lately, I'm going back to twice a week washing.

I need to stop pulling my hair into those tight little ponies too...

I also notice my hair starts to shed when its time to wash shortly after a relaxer, with or without product buildup

I've noticed this only when I use a cream moisturizer...Now, I only use an oil during the week for moisture and I dont get that; I guess creamy moisturizers are too heavy for my strands and pull on them, i think; but using only oil seems to be the best moisturizer for me

Bumping this thread for other relaxed heads to chime in... This is the first time i'm going once the whole week without washing... and i've been seeing quite a few broken hairs on the floor daily... should i co-wash more than once a week? I moisturize n seal daily, bun in the morning. I also use bee mines curly butter for hold.

glad somebody bumped this. i am going back to washing/cowashing every 3-4 days. my hair was doing fine during the winter.
