ITS MY HAIR!!!!!!!!!!

Yup. When I shaved my hair I was the talk of the household, but I always had an evil smirk because I know come next year – they will BEG for some tips…and sure enough came next year, they’re now begging for some tips from my dumb behind -whatever!!

So sorry that this is bothering you. It's truly sad that when it comes to our natural hair our people can be the worst critics.

I've been natural for almost 5 years and I get much more positive feedback from other races than I do our own people. Fortuantely for me , it doesn't bother me anymore. I am totally at peace with my decision, so the comments roll right off my back now. I usually just ignore the comments but most have learned not to go there with me anymore.

I really like the response of Longdayinthepark though. I think the next time someone dares to say anything about my choice I will just look at their hair and stare without saying anything. I bet that will shut them up and make them feel as uncomfy as they're trying to make me.

I getting the same crap right now from my aunt and grandmother since I did the BC. They keep calling me buckwheat, but I just laugh at them and told them that I think it is sad that they really believe their opinions will affect what I choose to do with my hair, and just because they have no will power and always follow the masses does not mean I do or even will, so they are wasting their breath.

They still talk their crap, but considering I have the strongest and thickest hair in my fam, they can kick rocks.

Hugs to you! I'm sorry your family is not being supportive. I hate when ppl make things that have nothing to do with them their business.

I just cut my hair after transitioning since March of this year and so far I have had only positive responses, except for one friend/associate who said "not natural, oh the horror," I was like:rolleyes:

It's good you have LHCF, to let all your frustrations out.

Re: ITS MY F****** HAIR!!!!!!!!!!

I would tell THEM this.

Sometimes you have to make harsh statements to really be heard :yep:

Although I'd like to think that I wouldn't have to talk like that to someone, honestly the more I live among humans, the more I think you have a point.
You ain't no joke Neith. I've been peepin' your comments!

SB, get things off your chest, we are right behind you, keep up the good work with your hair.

Re: ITS MY F****** HAIR!!!!!!!!!!

ITA. Sometimes you gotta get people off your back mama. Umm, why is your cousin's fiance saying anything? If I didn't say anything to anyone else, I'd get that monkey off my back because he is WAY out of line. Your aunt and cousin are too, but the fiance? Fiance? He really doesn't count! Tell him to beat it.

Um yeah. My cousin has him like that. Ever since she met him she kinda pushed him on the family so he felt he was down enough to crack some jokes. Don't get me wrong, he cool, but I really can't even be that mad at him because she should have drawn the line years ago. But believe it I get at him and his 9 months pregnant looking belly. But i digress. Yeah, he calls me lil sis, so he figure cuz of that he can get at me, but they don't understand that ish is wack. Like seriously, get some new material. Oh wait a min. this may be his new material (HIstory: i appreciate R. Kelly as an artist, so ever since his scandal came out the fiance is like "You too old for R. Kelly. He don't want you." I'm talking about for YEARS he uses this wack a** joke. Matter a fact he said this in June. Come on, give it a rest)

I know what you're going thru. You're a strong woman for not throwing jokes back...I would be all over the fiance's a** with the baldy jokes, and tell them stop hating on the hair that God has blessed you with. And if throwing jokes back is not your style, sit them down and tell them it really bothers you when they joke about your hair (tell them WHY it bothers you) and you seriously wont tolerate it anymore.

I wish I could, but like I said before I hate confrontation...no matter how slight. I know I need to woman up and let then have it, but part of me feels like its not worth telling them, because what I say will fall on dead ears. I'm just gonna keep on keep pm doing what I have to do and make sure I'm alone when I do my hair. Grrr!!!!!!!!! I NEED TO MOVE OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

The next time they ask you about your hair, you ask them who they're voting for in the next election and why; ask what is their stance on the economy, global warming, alternative fuel sources; and then ask them is their soul prepared to meet God in judgment.

When they look at you strange, then tell them that when they've thought about their answers to these very pressing issues (and- in the case of the last question- an eternally pressing issue), that your hair should really be a non-issue for them!

HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

And you know what I bet...They are gonna be all over my ish when it gets longer. Ignorant asses (is that a word...lol). Length and texture should not be a basis for acceptance.

I'm so over it:)

Thanks again ladies. TGFLHCF (thank goodness for LHCF) lol

Girl i know what u mean!!! man bump them. I love nappy bun thingys because that's what i wear 99% of the time!!:yep:
your hair looks great by the way.

wow, I can't believe i read all that. You sound pissed!! You have reason to be though. Ignore them and stop hanging around them. Limit your time with them until you absolutely have to like for thanksgiving and christmas.

I loved how you exhaled after you were done venting. We all KNOW the deal here at LHCF. I know how it can grate your nerves with the comments, 'cause I sure had to endure some. But forgive them, for they don't know what they do.

Your dear cousin should go natural, as her fiance seems so enamored with the coils. Once you go nap...you never go back!

I totally forgot about this thread lol. Man i was PISSED!!!!

Well the comments have decreased a bit, but my reaction is what has changed. I really have ignored them or make snide comments.

Example: MY AUNT "What you really doing with that hair? Its giving me a headache" ME: "I do it on purpose, I'm trying to annoy you".

LOL, i have a ball with that one. But seriously. I don't take crap from anyone anymore. I mean, they still throw their comments, but I just don't stick around to hear them. ONce I hear them starting up i just excuse myself.

Now that I have done the BC I'm sure I'll be back in here with their comments (good or bad). They haven't seen my hair as yet. I didn't even tell them I cut it.

We'll see....

I JUST had someone look at my funny b/c of my hair today. I LOVE my friends BUT they be tripping. They say things like you need to get a perm. You should wear your straight more often.

Today I had my hair out in the natural state and I was telling my friend i think that I am going to cut the back so that I can wear my hair out. (the back of my hair is straighter then the rest of my hair b/c my hairdresser, put a perm in my hair to pull my curl pattern and the back took quickly) She was like you actually want to wear your hair like that:nono:. I was like :wallbash:, bye girl lol.

ahh sorry you have to be dealing with that girlie...But I hear you, I have so many ask me, so why not dread, or why not relax, or whatever, and I look at them, last time I check, this was not your hair, mind your darn business! People like that just feel the need to give their input, all the time..Shake them off, especially the guy, like come on, bald spots and you want to talk about others? Hahaha! And thankfully your mom is supportive, so just feed off her energy and your own and screw the rest of 'em!!
Happy Hair growing, btw..I love the siggy with the finger coil, very nice.

LOL. Thanks.
Oh my mom did the finger coil. We were debating on which to put in my hair. We both got tired and didn't do either:) I'm about to wash it now and figure something out.

"Shoot not even, worry about yours and how you keep shaving it cuz when it grows out your bald spots are visible."

:funny:

So many people need to come up with the times man!

Brush em off girl. Family is the worst. I rarely want to be bothered with those aunts and cousins.. You do what you what you want to your head.. if they do what they want to their heads and worry about their business... hey then everybody is keeping it pushin'! Now the name calling is ridiculous.. I think I would've had to give them the business for that though.

Sounds like my whacked "good" hair "bad" hair family.. mine is longer than yours.. all i have to do is put some water in mine and it curls up... great.. now get da *** on.. Wait.. I'm sorry... I'm having a flashback. :lachen::lachen: I feel ya! I love that post!

ETA: I also love that avi picture. Beautiful hair!

this is my third and final transition. i had the deaconess, the mother of the church, one of the deacons, adult sunday school teacher, and a few others talking about how bad my hair looks. the deaconess constently told me i needed a perm and that i should straighten it so it looks nice. i was the fool to try and keep up with straingtening my hair to and then my dh was shot in an armed robbery on his job the first time and it just seemed to be to much for me to keep hair straight and take care of him so i permed it. this happened to me the second time. i just could not take the ridicule again and left the church. this is the last transition and if i change my mind it will be because i want to. i am happy being nappy.

i really don't see why they are picking at you hair anyway, it is gorgeous. tell cuz and fiance to kiss off with the jealousy

that is a damn shame

sorry to hear that

i hate that water bit. I heard that just last night from dh. i said we all can just add some water and get good results with our hair.

Many of your family members are knocking you because you've chosen to go natural and stay that way....well they are going to have to accept it or just don't look at you if it bothers them that much. People really don't seem to realize that being natural is by choice, and that we ladies that have gone natural feel comfortable enough to do it. Also, what many fail to realize is that being natural we can do so much more many styles that relaxed heads can't do. You are versatile with your hair, so enjoy it as I am and many other ladies that have chosen this route and blow off those unwarranted comments. I am proud of you for at least voicing your thoughts and opinions to us because alot of us have been there.:lachen:

Having a permed head is not everyone's solution!!!!! Everytime I had a perm in my hair the end results looked as though a chicken was sucking on it. Some hair just don't take well with a relaxer. My twin is just the opposite of me and a relaxer in her hair does no harm, but for me I just can't take a relaxer. My hair is much more healthier and stronger without it than it ever was with it. I've honestly lost count of how many times I transitioned but I am positive since my bc in Dec. I will not use any more chemicals in my hair.

thank you. i rationalized the situation because I was over the usher board but inside i kept saying that this is how God made me why should I be ashamed. Why? because folks in church kept looking at my hair when talking and not my eyes.

that is a damn shame

sorry to hear that

Yeah i feel you. Thanks for the comments. I don't know why people are like that. What I eat don't make them sh*t, so why put all that energy into what I do. Goodness.
