Well I guess this is like a two part question. I don't really wanna know if anyone's been to jail but-

I'm watching MTV and this woman was in jail for like 15 months .. what do you do to your hair in jail? is that like, a FORCED transition?

If you were going to jail what is the one product you would bring?? I would say either Always Castor oil (its not the best, but itll do) or olive oil.. it's so versatile! I can use it to seal in moisture, I guess..:ohwell:

In my city, the inmates can order hair grease, gel and curl activator through canteen, but they do not have access to chemicals such as relaxers or even blowdryers. They mostly braid or plait their hair. If an inmate comes into a facility with tracks or braids, they have been known to share the hair.

In prisons, I think they have a beauty salon on site. I think that they have to pay for these services. The women in jail are forced to transition, whereas the women in prison have access to chemical services if wanted. The women in jail, sometimes use clippers to do a big chop.

I have never been incarcerated by the way, but I do know a lot about this. Anyway, if I were going to do a bid, I would probably bring castor oil as well so I could add it to my conditioners. I would probably do a lot of conditioner washes.

What's the difference? Is prison long term? No I have never been to jail. I have noticed from those documentaries that most of the ladies are natural.

I just watched that too.... is that the same one where she was using a colored pencil as eyeliner, and mixing toothpaste and coffee to make mascara?:spinning: I guess jail brings out your creative side!

Anyway I think you can buy stuff from the jail's store if you have money so maybe they carry some hair products, probably not good ones though. I would have to import a good conditioner like AOHSR and use it as a mulit purpose: co-wash, condish, and leave-in.

Jails usually house inmates that are awaiting trial, serving short-term sentences for misdemeanors, or have just been arrested. Prisons usually house inmates that have been sentenced for felony convictions. The sentences usually range from 1 year to life sentences (even death row), depending on the charges.

No, I've never been to jail (No intentions of going either). I studied criminal justice when I attended college. Also, I have several family members that have been locked up.

Prison is long term, jail is usually short term depending on the amount of time you sit waiting to go to trial.

Wow! I never even thought about that. I guess they have to braid it up.

Jail is 12 months or less (or sometimes 2 years if the prison is overcrowded). Prison is long term and usually for those serving more than 12 months.

Share the tracks!! That is generous...or are they beat down for their tracks? I know that I'd be less than willing to share my tracks....especially if they were something like extensions plus tracks. Then again, I hope to NEVER be in jail or prison.

Thanks, Platinum I was gonna give the same response.

Yes, they share tracks and the hair from braids.:ohwell: They take the hair off of the track and use it for braiding hair. I don't think they beat them down for the tracks:blush:. I think its more or less bartering. Track hair for a honeybun.

It's amazing how in prison you can still get stuff if you have money... I mean hell they probably don't have to wait to get in for an appointment either. :wallbash:
Just walk right on in.

I can picture it now... Girls in prison coming out after being in 20 yrs and coming out with booty length hair because of all the low manipulation and just letting it grow... Maybe we need to get locked up girls!?! Haha... :rocker:

I don't think my hair would be something that I would be worried about if I was in jail.:nono: I don't think looking my best would be in the best thing. But if hair products are allowed then I would have my Hawaiian Silky 14 in 1.

the crown and glory method sounds like the way to go.
cornrows every other week. daily moisture and seal with oil.
men come out with the prison muscles and women come out with hair, 6-12 inches of retention while in detention!

hahaha, that's very clever actually. I'm not sure if this board looks at the bright side of things, or just hair obsessed!

When i was living in the bronx years ago, I started getting into fights, one of them was bad and the cops arrested me instead of the folks that tried to jump me (was unsuccessful temper real bad).

They arrested me and took me to the precinct, but thank god my moms came and the whole neighborhood to get me. They let me go. I was so mad I was doing push ups in the cell lol!!! I was thinking about biggie's old song (it was all a dream). Everytime I tell my friend about the push ups she cracks up.

It didn't hit me then but now I realize if they would've pressed charges I really would have ruined my life and whatever career it is im trying to have.

And yeah I thought about my hair because I had it out that day, would've been a bad hair day everyday.

Funny you ask this question about hair maintenance in jail, I was thinking about this a few days ago. Nope I ain't never been to jail. But if I were to go to the jail house, I'd ask my sister to braid my hair (low mani:yep:). It would also be a great place to fight pjism:grin:

Paris Hilton had to take out her weave when she went to jail!!!! :lachen:

So did lil' Kim lol!
lil_kim_leaving_prison.jpg

Her hair was longer than I thought it would be.

I KNOW OF SOME ONE WHO GAVE AWAY SOME BRAIDS FOR PHONE CALLS/ SMOKES IN JAIL I HEARD ITS THE BIG THING TO DO SHE WAS THERE 3 DAYS I THINK.IF I DID HAVE TO GO I WOULD TAKE SOME LENZI REQUEST AND BRAID UP LOL AND GROW LONG.

OMG If i have a **** fit with my new growth weekly if i dont staighten them....Then in jail or prision i will have a heart attack and die...so i wont have to worry:blush:

Maybe we need to start rolling up to the prison for our hair care needs... Haha... Just make sure we bring money or smokes...

With all the these crazy video games out there like Grand Theft Auto, etc... Maybe someone should make one like our scenario. Get out of prison alive with all your hair! Haha...

:rocker:

never been, but if i do, ima make sure i have some MT & aohc, and put some micros in beforehand so i'll have lots of hair to barter with lol!

Jail is more short term (usually under 2 years--varied by state). Prison is for those with longer sentences.
