ohhh, ok!
what if I did, neutralize, protein, neutralize!
I seriously thought about that, this relaxing process is interesting, another reason why I'm excited to do it, then maybe I can do other people's relaxers if I can get it right.
You dont need the 2nd neutralize just DC with a moisturzing thick and creamy conditioner. It doesnt have to be thick and creamy, I just like them. And yea when you have it down, you can help other. I usually help my friends, but havent helped in a while. I am good at not over lapping and stuff which is good in my case.

Dont be nervous, yoou should be nervous about being bone str8 since you are aiming for texlax.

I think I'll neutralize twice just in case, I heard to let the neutralizer sit in your hair for 5 min.
I love thick & creamy conditioners also?

Yea I am not saying dont do it twice I just dont think you have to seperate it like that. I let the neatralizer sit for a while too. To think about it doing it the way you said dont sound bad at all.
I love thick DC, I dont even know why.

Thanks!
You've given me a lot of good advice, I really needed it.
I can't wait until January, doing my hair has been time consuming and disappointing.

Yes, because if you start from the root down your hair will be under processed. The heat from your body helps the relaxer process quicker than the shaft and ends.

I also neutralize as often as feel is necessary, manly 3-5 times let the neutralizer sit for 5 min, then 10-15, and then 5 again if not longer. If I feel like I want to neutralize again I do but 3x's is normally good for me ad I feel safe.
Make sure to put the product to the middle section of the hair strands first, then ends and the roots to prevent a burning scalp and over processing the roots. If you need to see how it's done go to youtube expertvillage, they should have a video.
Don't forget to let us see the results.Best wishes.

So your neutralize 3 times...I think I'll do that!
Letting set for 10-15 sounds good, I do this after the 2 min reconstructor.

Yes, I feel like I am better safe than sorry, that's why alot of pple experience breakage after relaxing not neutralizing properly and getting all the relaxer out. I use a relaxer system and just follow steps it already comes with a very moisturizing protein reconstucter that I DC with. So I don't know about using the 2 min reconstruter before neutralizing.

I might just focus on the protein after the neutralizing, I was just browsing around a bit, and one women, http://journals.fotki.com/redhotlala/relaxer/entry/wbksdfqggbw/
Neutralizes 6-8 times, so I may up mine to 4,lol.
I also read that it is good to neutralize a week later.

I would use the mild and do a strand test. Since this is your first relaxer, there is no way that you can "guess" how long it's going to take your hair to process. And since you are going for a texlax and not bone straight, you would want to err on the side of under processed rather than over processed. HTH.

I would rather destroy my own hair than let someone else destroy it, plus the area I'm in doesn't cater to black hair care, what so ever .
My mother started doing her own relaxers at 16 and didn't know that much at all, compared to what I know about hair.

Oneya, you could either go to the Chapel Hill Aveda Academy http://www.avedachapelhill.com/services.shtml or you could venture about 10-15 min. to Durham where there are plenty of black folk to do your hair. HTH. You can even ask some of our RDU ladies if they have references, Ask that is what we are here for.

Yeah, mild sounds about right, but what if I want it more on the straight side.
I was trying to guess how long the strand test might take.lol!

I already asked the ladies on here and got ignored, just one person replied. I don't have the transportation to get to Durham.

Also I went to the Aveda Academy and I don't think they would know all these steps that I'm going to take.

Did you have a consult? What did they say? Did you tell them you just wanted a "partial relaxer" or a regular relaxer?

They've done my natural hair before and seemed confused, so I sure don't want them coming at me with chemicals,:lachen:

BTW, you have beautiful hair. I just want you to be careful.
I've gotten to the point where I don't care anymore, I need relief.
If it falls out, then it falls out. I wasn't really making any progress anyway.

If you want it on the straight side, just leave it on a little longer. If you use anything stronger, since this is your first relaxer and you haven't done this before, you are asking for BONE STRAIGHT HAIR!!! There's nothing wrong with that, but that's not sounding like what you actually want. Once it's bone straight, there's no going back, but if you go a little under, it can always be corrected.

Also, if you get a tub of relaxer, take a good amount out of the tub into a cheap plastic bowl. If you need more, get a clean spoon and scoop some out. Never apply directly from the large container as it can get contaminated. HTH.

These are some great tips! Thanks! Looks like I'll be sticking to mild.
