No... definitely not. I think one of her grandparents is though.
Brazilian is a nationality too. IME, there are so many ethnic groups, races etc in Brazil that calling "Brazilian" an ethnicity doesn't really give much information, unless you prefix it with something, *much* the same as it is in America. You wouldn't say someone's ethnicy is American, but that they are African American, Irish American, etchuh? American is a nationality. Her heritage/ethnicity/ is half Brazilian and if her mother is Brazilian then it is pretty significant.
Very true I don't consider my family as 'brazilian" and although I was born in england I don't consider myself "english".Brazilian is a nationality too. In Yaya's case, from what I have read, she has some Afro-Brazilian heritage / ethnicity, through a greatgrandfather.
at this thread
im just going to save my energy and call her a black
moving on...
I really like her hair in the last pic.

Gorgeous hair does not have a race........
She's brazilian right?

4a pre-texturizerdont care where she from i know she be repping her african heritage but what would u guys consider her hair type?
I think wiki is wrong. I was her biggest fan, back when she was on and all throughout the cycle, she made it a point to let everyone know she is Nigerian. I dunno why all of a sudden she's BrazillianWith all due respect, Yaya is not Nigerian-American, at least according to her own words as reported by Wickipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yaya_DaCosta
I think that she probably is of Yoruba ethnicity in her blood line since her grandfather is Brazilian, and Yoruba is the major African ethnic group in that country. But she's not strictly Nigerian-American.
Anyway I could care less where she's from. I need to know her skin care regimen as well as how she does her hair. I remember reading in a thread here a long time ago that she might be texturized??? She is so beautiful and I'm glad that she didn't win ANTM because the winners haven't really gone on to do anything of worth, whereas she has done A LOT!![]()
Because even on this board, when people see a nice head of hair they are conditioned to de-negrofy it to legitimize it.How did this turn into a race/heritage thread? Googly moogly
Girl, you know, it matters to some people when they're looking for role models for their hair. It's more of an undertone that I see sometimes when people point out that someone isn't american.
Back to our scheduled programming....![]()

I've heard her say it many of times and its in her biowhere ya'll getting this from? She is of nigerian descent![]()
Nobody said that she wasn't "american" , whatever that means.Girl, you know, it matters to some people when they're looking for role models for their hair. It's more of an undertone that I see sometimes when people point out that someone isn't american.
Ok maybe on this board but I don't think that is what people were trying to imply in this thread. Some of us were just curious to know her heritage after it being mentioned that she is brazilian, because there is conflicting information on the net. Nothing more, nothing less.Because even on this board, when people see a nice head of hair they are conditioned to de-negrofy it to legitimize it.![]()

She does have gorgeous hair - I've loved her hair since she was on ANTM.....
Wow really? I read an interview where she said that she was natural. I also remember her saying that she suffers from acne.I need to know her skin care regimen as well as how she does her hair. I remember reading in a thread here a long time ago that she might be texturized???

LOL..<sarcasm>
Oh, yeah, that's right! Hair that pretty can't come from a regular ole black woman, it has to be some sort of 'exotic' black woman.
