I didn't vote b/c my hair is shorter in the back & my hair grows longer/ faster on the sides & in the front. It is only kind of even b/c I cut it that way to give the back time to catch up.

My hair is in layers, but I know that the sides are probably the same length as the back, but not in the same location.

YES!! I understand that it really may not be, but it still doesn't grow as fast as the back and I'M SICK OF IT!

Sorry if this seems obvious and isn't what you mean, but are you sure your hair is shorter or it just falls at a level that makes it appear shorter. If your hair is all the same length, then considering that it is starting from a higher point on the side (Point A in attached pic) than it is at the back (Point B), then it would naturally fall shorter on the sides than the back.

The alternative would be to get a blunt cut making the back much shorter so that all strands fall to the same level.

That makes total sense!!!!!!

If you let your hair grow in natural layers, the back will always be longest then the sides, front and top. Your strands will be all the same length but because they hang from different spots on your head, the lower parts (ie the back) will hang lower and appear longer. The only way to make it all even is to cut the longer parts shorter so it looks even.

I cut my hair in a bob in sept so my hair was completely even. Now that my hair has grown a little my back is a little longer. My sides arent growing at the same rate as the back. I have no clue why. I'll have to cut the back to get my even bob back.

Yes, my hair is very uneven.
That was one of the reasons for my BC in the first place, but not that it's growing it's still longer in the back.
I guess I just keep trimming the back to even it out once I get some length.

That's true if you shaved your hair or something and let it grow back, but if your hair was all cut evenly (well I guess the sides were actually longer) then shouldn't it stay even?

My hair is uneven because of the lady who did my BC but for some reason the back of my hair grows like weeds but as for the front and sides, still waiting........:wallbash:

That's what I meant by if you let your hair grow in natural layers. In length it will be even like say all of your hair will be 5" long. But a piece of hair that's 5" at your nape is going to hang 5" down your neck versus a piece of hair that is 5" at the hairline. It'll only hang to maybe your nose or so. All of my hair is about the same length inchwise but the back is to the shoulder, the front is to my lip and the side are to my chin. In order to make all of your hair appear at the same level, you'd have to cut the back and sides shorter to match the front.

If your hair has been cut, then that changes everything. If it was cut to appear even, like for instance a bob or a blunt cut, then I would imagine it would stay that way. Unless you had some breakage or something.

Yes.

Sides are APL and back is gracing BSL/top of BSL.

It hasn't always been like that, until I decided to dye just the front part of my hair (two-tone) :ohwell: That was the fastest part to break off.

Oh, the lord only knows whats going on with my hair :nono:. The hair at the front is around chin length, the sides are around collar bone length and the back is about armpit length.
After all of this, my nape has only started growing back and is now back to shoulder length from almost non existant-length :giggle:.
I GOT A LOT WORK TO DO :look:.

Yep.
Mine's cut to appear even (blunt cut) rather than the actually strands being the same length so the uneveness must be from breakage I guess.
Is anyone elses like this?

yes my sides and bang grow so so slow. I stil can't see my sides resting on my shoulders and my back I can feel it but can't look down and see anything. its just upsets me to no end. Thats why I don't straighten whats the point. I can't see it anyway.

Yes and for a mixture of reasons...where it is located on my head and breakage. Bunning helped me grow out my hair while transitioning, but my dream is thick even hair so I gave in and cut:perplexed into a shoulder length bob last month, even a little shorter in the back so it will hopefully grow(appear) more even now.

OP your hair looks thick and healthy so it will probably eventually catch up for you!:yep:

Nope, not my stuff. My sides have always grown longer than the back...If I put my hair in 3 pony tails (2 on sides, 1 in back), it's VERY visible.:perplexed

I'm going to say my sides are WAY shorter than the back because the front side parts of my hair look like I've cut bangs before, and I've never had bangs in my life! My hair falls slightly above BSL in the back, but on the sides I don't even think they are shoulder length. It's all right, though, because it makes my hair look layered, but I didn't like it when my hair was shorter because my hair in the back fell a little past SL but the hair in the front-sides was nose-length!

There aren't enough words to describe the different lengths in my hair right now....My sides are CL, my back is CBL, the crown is WTF, bangs are nose length....

I cut my hair last summer and it is growing back the same way--longer in the back, shorter in the front. It's always been like this for me...

My hair is like that and I don't believe it is because of breakage.
If anything it is down to NATURAL LAYERS, because the lowest point the hair at the front starts (grows from) at is above ear, where as at the back it is at the neck. Therefore naturally it will be shorter at the front unless you cut it to make it all even
