Whisper "bleep boop" to yourself when you're sad.
Mine are :perplexed My hair is BSB (below shoulder blade) but my sides are like CBL :ohwell: WTH causes the sides to be so much shorter?

My sides are beyond jacked right now so yes.

When my hair was at its healthiest, the sides were always shorter than the back. I didnt think anything of it, I just figured thats how my hair grew. It didnt look bad or anything cuz I'm sure someone would have told me.

Don't stress about it, Your hair is still fly :) My hair wants to be like yours when it grows up :)

Aw, thanks girl! :hugxplode:

Yes my sides are shorter than the back and always have been... The back was shoulder length while the back was arm pit length :ohwell:. I rencently cut the sides so now my sides are chin length and the back is APL.. :ohwell:

I don't have this problem now that I cut my hair even. But my daughter has always had this problem, her side just grow at a much much slower rate than the back.

I used to have this problem as well, but I cut a bob last October and my hair has grown out but still has the same cut. My sides are an inch from APL while the back is maybe 2 and a half inches from it. I'm thinking that if you ever cut it even, you'll see that your hair grows more consistently than you think.

I think it breaks off because of alot of things like laying on your side thus laying on the side of your head causing breakage, ponytail holders breaking it off etc. My sides are shorter too ((hug)) join the club :)

I'm the opposite. The sides are APL but the back is 1.5 inches shorter. My hair always grows this way. My old hairdresser would always cut the sides to make them the same length, but I've decided to just let it grow. I like the way it looks.

yea my sides are shorter and I really truly believe its from wearing the buns. I've noticed that alot of the ladies who do rollersets or just pin-ups dont have this problem. :yep: I could be wrong.

Mine have always been shorter not matter if its cut even, bob or not ...my hair has an issue. I did have layers before but its like the sides always stay the same length for some very odd reason... i hate it :(

My sides are shorter, maybe APL while my back is BSL. I *know* it's because of wearing buns 99% of the time. So I'm gonna try to stop and start wearing different styles to see if that helps.

My sides are shorter because my head is round.

Seriously though, the hairline on the back of my head goes down a lot further than the hairline on the sides of my head, so since all of my strands are the same length, my hair looks shorter on the sides. *shrug* It's not breakage/slower growth rates, it's just a side effect of not cutting my hair into an even style.

In order for my hair to appear to be the same length all of the way around, my back would have to be a lot shorter (strand length wise) than the front is.

Yes, Mines was like that for a long time until I went from APL to SL and Now my hair is growing all even on all sides and it is nice. I like the way yours looks. You have very beautiful hair =)

Sorry if this seems obvious and isn't what you mean, but are you sure your hair is shorter or it just falls at a level that makes it appear shorter. If your hair is all the same length, then considering that it is starting from a higher point on the side (Point A in attached pic) than it is at the back (Point B), then it would naturally fall shorter on the sides than the back.

The alternative would be to get a blunt cut making the back much shorter so that all strands fall to the same level.

My hair appears longer in the back but it isn't (I've measured it). My hair has always grown this way (in a V shape) and I love it this way. In the past when I have got to shoulder length it always started to grow longer on the sides and started to break off in the back but now I know this is because it was rubbing against my clothes first! Don't have that problem anymore.

I love my V shaped hair and I wouldn't have it any other way. I think V shaped long hair is sexy!

Same here, Kiya. My sides LOOK shorter than my back, but I had to bust out the measuring tape recently and guess what ... my sides are actually a full 1-2 inches longer than the back. They just look shorter, but it's just an illusion.

The sides have a longer distance to go than the nape does in order to reach the same point on your back. 10'' of hair on the sides will fall at a different point (maybe CBL) than 10'' on hair growing from the nape (maybe APL). My hair grows at relatively the same rate so I have natural layers.

Yea...but my hair grows in natural V layers...I use to get frustrated w/ my progress,I now understand and accept, and love it:yep:

Actually my sides and the top of my hair are the longest right now because of my damage last year. Before that the back was the longer than ever I think. The front of my hair has always grown long over the back.

As justkiya said, my hair pretty much grows at the same rate throughout and is therefore about the same length throughout. Because of this it APPEARS to be layered. If your hair is in a blunt cut or appears even when down your front is actually way longer than your back.

hmm. my sides are the longest parts of my hair right now; it's the rest of my hair that needs to catch up! but i feel your pain.

You mean the sides as in by the ears? That part is physically higher up on your head? So if all your hair is the same length, e.g. 12", that part will still fall higher up than the part in the back because it's several inches above it. Or am I misunderstanding you.

oops, justkiya already said it. i think this sorta thing happens most obviously on naturals who at some point cut all their hair down bald or into a fro. in order for the hair to fall at the same point, it's going to have to be cut that way and different parts are going to have to be different lengths.

Since I've been natural, my hair grows faster in the nape area... even with the measuring of all points of my head it's a couple of inches longer. When I was permed I couldn't get the nape area to grow... go figure:ohwell:

Tiffers you better shut up with those lovely locks of yours!! But to answer your question yup yup yup my sides have a hard time catching up for some reason. My edges look horrific. Theyre still growing back after a bad micro incident. It seems like the front of my head's hair is way longer than the back though....maybe because my hair in the back rubs against my clothes? Who knows?

If I measured the actual length of the hair, my sides are actually longer than my back and front. The back hair and crown hair is actually the shortest in true measured length.
