To be honest I havent paid attention to it. I knew it was bad for the scalp but I thought it wasnt so bad for the hair, now I know otherwise. Im going to try to avoid it and see what happens. I have hair that is naturally dry and so I think I need to avoid mineral oil for a while and see was happens. I dont use mineral oil often but I'm sure it's not helping my dryness problem.

I don't avoid it, because it never done anything bad to my hair, So I will keep on using it, been using it all these years and it never stopped my growth, A couple of my Indian oils have Mineral Oil, I still use them with no Issues. Mineral Oil is in most Relaxers, But since it is being washed away it is okay.

Yes, but the only product with mineral oil I use is Lekair Cholesterol for my prepoos, but it gets shampooed out anyway and plus I combine it with olive or coconut oil.

After I saw the comment about Cathy Howse's cracker mineral oil demonstration, I'm staying away.

Nope, I sure don't. I just don't put it in my scalp. Most of my staples have mineral oil (KeraCare, Mizani Rose).

None of my staples contain it. I have a moisturizer that has it and I'm trying to get rid of it by adding aloe vera juice and my good moisturizers to it. My hair has been thriving since I found the boards and started to eliminate mineral oil so I figure I don't need it on my hair or scalp.

My profectiv deep conditioner has it. I've never had a problem with it. I don't use any oils that contain it. I truly don't understand the big deal though.

Yes, after joining this site. I was just at the BSS & I left w/o buying anything because almost everything that I picked up had mineral oil in it.

I don't fully understand the science behind it, but I don't want even a minor setback.

I avoid using mineral oil, I feel that my hair doesn't shed as much when I don't use it, I don't have scalp pimples like I use to, and mineral oil seems to coat my hair, and I prefer that my hair absorbs any oil.

Since joining this forum and researching I have not used it. :flush: I have found so many other oils of higher quality. My hair deserves better.

Yes. It may work for a lot of women, but my hair hates it. It leaves my hair feeling very strawlike. That's why I don't use Pink oil anymore :nono:.

I avoid it like the plague in my daily moisturizer. But I don't mind it in my wash out conditioner (KeraCare). As long as it is in something that I wash out the same day, I'm good.

I try my hardest to avoid, I probably have a handful if that of items that contain it and thats out of 3 rubbermaid storage containers.

avoid it like the plague...

my hair quality is a thousand times better...my hair is truly healthy without mineral oil

plus the natural good oils are cheaper than those bad hair products with mineral oil...

mineral oil does not penetrate my hair at all...nothing good about it for my hair

dabur coconut oil has been a god send..best thing since slice bread

I have to add that it has been almost 2 years later and I still avoid this mess and I do not like it in my conditioners either now. I don't like it in any of my products. It's sad that many products in the beauty supply stores that are catered towards us have this cheap crap as an ingredient. :nono:

I don't use it. In my Pink Oil days, I never understood why no matter how much I'd put on my hair, it still wouldn't hold moisture. MO dries my hair out--almost makes my hair feel like notebook paper.

I accidentally bought some conditioner with MO in it and the quality was just terrible. It was Lustrasilk Herbal Liquid and it just didn't even feel the same as the other LS deep conditioners I have (shea mango and olive). I figured it had to have been the MO in it. I threw it away.

I think I may have at the beginning of my hair journey. Now I'll probably only avoid products that have mineral oil as the first ingredient. Just because they tend to make my hair a bit sticky and hard. Even then, if a product works well and has it as the first ingredient, I'm using it!!

I use to...but truth be told, my hair isn't better off. As far as I'm concerned, mineral oil is just as "natural" as vegetable oils (olive, coconut, sweet almond, etc). If it works for you...go for it.

I'm glad I found this thread. I was wondering what was wrong with Mineral Oil. Maybe this explains why some leave ins make my hair dry. I will pay attention to the ingredients from now on. Now, off to conduct a search for a list of bad/unhealthy ingredients.

I'll reach for products with nourishing oils first. I prefer to stay away from it all together if possible.
