I'm so loving this thread! Maybe other aspects of modest dress will catch on and become hip? Then I won't look like such a wierdo

Thinking about re-creating this one.

I am Muslim and I did not take any offense to what any one has said. Hijab as the sister has said is more than just covering the hair, but it can also be fashionable. If not then why do we have scarves in different colors, patterns and sizes? Hijabs are beautiful and look beautiful on sisters. To each his own. I love to make my scarves look fabulous!!!! I wear my scarf in a bun as well, but I wear a turtle neck sweater and the ends of my scarves are brought to the front to cover my breast. I would also like to see what others come up with.

:yep:

Not for nothing but I think I look fly in my hijab:look::grin:.

Here are a few nice styles. I have no idea how to create. I would adjust it to my needs alittle to cover certain areas.

Yeah... they are regal and elegant...
wouldn't that be interesting...
if modesty was in vogue/mainstream
something to think about...

Hiding your hair like that must do amazing things for retention

Right... all the ones I have posted cover the neck and head...
but maybe other posters interpretation to making this look
flyy it to just wear the scarf that covers the head and loose
the neck part... that's why it's a challenge...
it is kind of hard to make it look flyy without looking too literal.

I think these two I posted are very close the the idea I had in mind when
started this thread... it borrows ideas from the hijab and makes it look
fashion forward and not so much like a Hijab.

its sold out. who is guilty of buying it. come on people!!! they just have this ugly green color left. :wallbash: where else can i find that scarf? lol thanks

Thank you.

What blatant disrespect for a religion. Thats like asking can you color on the pages of your bible or can you wear a yamaka to make your bun look cooler.:perplexed

I'm assuming you mean head accessories and scarves, right, SouthernTease?

Well, I wear hijab and don't consider it offensive or disrespectful. I don't think most Muslim women would. I think it's just a point of clarification. I mean, I usually wear just a silk scarf with my bangs out, but still consider myself a hijabi. Will post a pic when I find one that shows it well.

(not sure if last link was already posted)

Oooh I really enjoyed these - especially the blog. When I 1st got n2 healthy hair, I wore a silk scarf/some type of wrap 4 a year straight & my hair really thrived.

R u ladies that practice hijab 4 religious reasons seeing good results b/c of having ur hair covered most of the time? When & where r u allowed to not have the hijab on?

:yep: Sorry ... I stalk (read) your blog
BTW - Hybrid is a cutie!

I have a few scarves that I wear on occasion. If I could get away with it, I would wear a head-covering everyday at work. Thanks for the links ladies.

you are welcome glad I could share!

Im not sure actually since Ive always worn hijab...even before my hair journey and had long hair then too.
You are required to wear Hijab in the presence of males who you are permitted to marry. In Islaam you have males that are mehram and non mehram. Mehram would be father brother son nephew uncle grandfather grandson and these are people you dont have to wear Hijab in front of because you cant marry them. Anybody else co-worker neighbour brother in law, friend etc (who you could technically marry) you MUST wear Hijab in thr presence of.

And just a side note men are required to observe a "hijab" of sorts also. They are required to be modest also and cover not just women.

I don't wanna kill the thread lol, but the meaning of Hijab must have been misunderstood, It's not supposed to look fly :)

Although I get the idea, and im in since I wear hijab anyway :)

 tell that to the Emiratis!!! I get your point though but have to say I love the styles posted up here since I'm not quite ready to take on the hijab in the full sense of the word, I do tend to wear scarves a lot, bring it on ladies!!!

Thanks 4 explaining. So basically family or a group of all women. I do have just 1 more question, though? Does this apply once u r married since technically u can't marry another once u're married? Sry if this seems dumb. :look:

This hijab re-interpretation is so cute. It comes in red pepper and dove. I may get them both ('cause I love the Free People brand anyway), but I am looking at a few tams to keep my hair covered all Winter long

Yes, we still cover after marriage because it is a commandment from God that serves a social good not as a marker of possession by a man (lol we don't even take their last names!). The idea is that when men AND women observe a certain level of modesty in dress and behavior that society as a whole benefits.

That said....

AS A WARNING TO LADIES PARTICIPATING IN THIS "CHALLENGE":

1. PLEASE don't forget that although covering the hair is a plus, the MATERIAL you use MATTERS! Wool, cottons are TERRIBLE for your hair! They are drying and WILL cause breakage! Just like how we don't want our hair brushing against our collars made of these materials, it's 100 times worse when it's ON your head. Be careful!

2. I have noticed that since I started wearing the tied back style that I do, my edges have suffered GREATLY. I never ( I don't think?) had those problems when I wore traditional hijab, so this is something you may want to look out for. Maybe the "safest" bet in terms of protection is just a silk oblong casually tossed over, like how Kenyan or Pakistani women wear. Then you would have the benefit of both (but I wouldn't recommend it if you wear for religious reasons because of the slippage!).

This site has lots of options and free shipping:

Hope this helps!

This is a great thread for offering fashionable alternatives for head covering. As the temp has dropped, I am furiously taking notes for ways to go from home to work, as well as ways to cover up on the weekends.

Learning a lot along the way with this thread - fashionably and culturally!
