I would love to wear these on a regular, however, I will be starting a new position (Finally!!) and was wondering do you all have any problems with hr or someone at the workplace for wearing them.

Do you tell them it's for religous purposes? Do they question you? At one office I used to work with would not allow them unless it was to be worn because of your beliefs.

If asked, I could explain my reasons, but I'm just curious if any of you have run into any problems.... Thanks in advance.

Yeah... I didn't mean it literally...
fashion does borrow from culture...
I was hoping to see this maybe becoming
a trend... wouldn't that be so cool...
I think it's much better than those tweed hats
and cotton hats we wear in winters...
this could be an alternative...
could be fruitless or it could inspire
women to try something new.

I'm all about that.

I am a little confused. Hajabi's are Not supposed to look good? Thanks Southerntease, these are HOT. I wear head scarf 24/7 and I just got some new ideas. I normally buy my fabric from the India fabric stores (so pretty). I can't wait to test some out. Thanks again:grin:

I don't wanna kill the thread lol, but the meaning of Hijab must have been misunderstood, It's not supposed to look fly :)

Although I get the idea, and im in since I wear hijab anyway :)

hopefully i dont kill it either; these scarves do look nice but this isn't hijab. its just scarves. hijab intails covering more of the beauty than just the head. ears, neck, breast ect.... are included.:look: still im interested to see what you guys can come up with:yep:.

I found this site: We Love Hijabs.

I saw a scarf tied similar to this at the Gap last winter... I think it could look
flyy on the right person

I love the way she dresses...:yep:

Right... all the ones I have posted cover the neck and head...
but maybe other posters interpretation to making this look
flyy it to just wear the scarf that covers the head and loose
the neck part... that's why it's a challenge...
it is kind of hard to make it look flyy without looking too literal.

I think these two I posted are very close the the idea I had in mind when
started this thread... it borrows ideas from the hijab and makes it look
fashion forward and not so much like a Hijab.

I cant imagine myself wearing it the original way.
Ive already been asked if I was muslim 3894793827 times by wearing it the way I do already.
Culturally, I think it would send off a different message for me.
Theres nothing wrong with that but I prefer the bun.

Thank you.

What blatant disrespect for a religion. Thats like asking can you color on the pages of your bible or can you wear a yamaka to make your bun look cooler.:perplexed

I'm assuming you mean head accessories and scarves, right, SouthernTease?

I am Muslim and I did not take any offense to what any one has said. Hijab as the sister has said is more than just covering the hair, but it can also be fashionable. If not then why do we have scarves in different colors, patterns and sizes? Hijabs are beautiful and look beautiful on sisters. To each his own. I love to make my scarves look fabulous!!!! I wear my scarf in a bun as well, but I wear a turtle neck sweater and the ends of my scarves are brought to the front to cover my breast. I would also like to see what others come up with.

Slightly OT, there was this gorgeous Muslim girl at my school who always wore her Hijab so elegantly and stylishly, I really admired her funky yet modest way of dress.

This is a reminder to buy some more fabric. When I first bced, I wore silk headwraps for months on end, and my hair did wonderfully. I wish I could do a semi-turban style, any tutorials?

Those pics are so pretty! They look so feminine.

Ok... this is not a hijab...
but I think I'm getting closer to flyyer alternatives.

This black sweater is hot.
Have you seen this type of hoodie thing... Pink is on MTV all
this week... she has been wearing a red one... I think it's dope.

I think this would look cute with some skinny jeans and a nice fitted t shirt

Where is this from?

I'm not Muslim, so technically I don't wear hijab. I do like scarves and this thread is a reminder that I need to revamp my collection. I've worn them so much that they've gotten ratty.

SouthernTease,

I checked karmaloop.com and I am unable to find that scarf or anything similar to it.

Is the picture on here recent from their website?

Hijab is covering, although even some muslims dont follow the dress code for hijab to the point, its not just covering the head, you might see some wearing the islamic hijab, and still wearing tight clothing, that is NOT hijab. wich by the way is not a cultural thing, but a command from God in the Quran.

To answer another post, Hijab is not supposed to draw a sertain type of attention and look fly, that does however not mean that u should go around looking raggydie(sp) that would probably draw attention too lol, but there is diffrent kind of attention that you can draw to yourself, and trust me you get attention wearing hijab especially in the west where we are the minority.

And im really happy that some of you like the hijab style, I am not offended at all by this thread infact im so happy that I could get an oppertunity to write all this, and I hope it will be beneficial to some.

Thank you all, and sorry OP for hijacking :giggle:

auburn I am going to see if walmart has the fabric for the wrap this weekend when I go grocery shopping. I have got to do something different b/c this scarf is causing thinning on my left side in the back :wallbash::wallbash:.

Sadia, I saw this lady earlier and she told me the same thing. Hijab is about covering up or being "conservative". I learned something new today :smirk:

tishee, what color you goin for?

I tried rocking a nice scarf and hoops and my DH started referring to me as pirates of the caribbean. I am going to get some more scarfs and wear them to school

here is a video of diffrent "hijab" styles

........................................................................................................OH MY GOODNESS SAIDA! YOU KNOW!!LOL..

those women from that site wear the most beautiful hijab. the scares and the styles are so beautiful , although alot of them do not conform to the standard of full islamic dress. also i find alot of the scarves or the way they tuck them up seem to be a lil on the short/small side. i say kudos for style though. i never wear my scarves like they do cause i have to much front to cover up. but i am soooo drawn to the simple saphistication and beauty of these styles. i always go to look and see what they got goin on.:look:

I often really wear large scarves on the weekends and I tie them in different ways.

Funny Story. One time I tied it and I left the back portion hanging down long. I went to a local convinience store to buy some lottery tickets. So I told him my numbers and he just stood and stared at me for a good 5 seconds. I then asked him again and he responded in a shocked voice " You're going to buy lottery tickets" I said yes.
He said " And you're allowed to do that". At this point all the workers in the store were staring at me. I figured they assumed I was Muslim because of the scarf I was wearing. I just took my tickets and left and laughed for like 5 minutes in the car. You should have seen the looks on their faces. They were shocked and apalled.

:lachen: :lachen:

it's funny how he was asking u if your allowed to do that, as if you said no he would say well I can't sell it to you then lol :lachen:

Like when you fast ramadan and my friend always try to trick me into eating, and they no im fasting, but when I say okay give it to me i'll eat it, they will be like NOOOOOOOOO your fasting, I wouldnt eat it for real, but its just funny that they almost "try to help" you follow your religion.

Sorry got off topic :giggle:
