I feel you....I actually usually get alot of people thinking that their hair is very different from mine...but then they see some of my older pics of my shrunken fro and see that their texture is actually very similar to my texture :yep:

I tried to describe my texture to my coworkers and they didn't believe so one day I took down my bun at work. They were like... :lachen: My coworker actually said to me that "...your hair gives the 'illusion' that it's wavy."

And it is wavy, but very TIGHT waves...and kinks...and curls...my hair is very multitextured and it looks different when pulled back in a bun vs if I just washed it and let it shrink. It just so happens I NEVER do this anymore in fear of tangles....

My hair is the same way. It appears wavy when I pull it back but if I let it loose it's a different story. And if I let it shrink it looks different. I never let it shrink with no products. It'll be a hot mess. :nono:

I have to agree. Just when I think I can mirror someone's progress, I get to looking at texture shots and I'm like dammit. Their coils are much looser than mine. I didn't truly realize I was a tightly coiled 4b until I took this texture shot with my hair pulled back and I'm like "so we don't have the same grade of hair "

This pic, is 4 months post, so I really got to see that I am a 4b. Now I have to start searching for the real 4b's on the board, and researching their products and reggies.

Really? Your hair looks so soft and luscious!!! It's beautiful!!! Have you ever had a regular bone straight relaxer? 20min to texturize means your hair is stong and healthy!!! I love it!!!!

Thank you! :bighug:

I have had bone straight relaxers in the days before me discovering hair boards.

45 minutes to one hour processing with a super strength relaxer to get it straight.

I wouldn't do that to my hair now :nono: Even if my hair is crazy resistant, it's just terrible to put it through all of that!

My hair IS really coarse though

I have to use a super strength relaxer for 20 mins just to get a texturized look, and it's not highly texturized.

I get you though :yep:

This reminds me of that recent discussion when Gymfreak was talking about how in general the straighter the hair the more protein bonds it has and so the harder it is for a relaxer to break it down.

I'm one of those ladies with fine hair and many strands on my head. I don't know if it's texture, curl pattern, strand diameter, but i get fooled all the time:yep:. Usually by people like ticktock who appear to have the same hair as me in certain styles then do something that my hair can't do that clues me in. I think I've seen 2 or 3 people on this board that have hair close to mine.

Lys

Who are they, and have you contacted them about your breakage issues? Your hair has been on my mind a lot lately. I have a PM I'm preparing to send you.

Ticktoc, your hair is so pretty! Even stretched I could see it wasn't like mine, though there's more to hair's texture than the number letter combos, of course.

But to the OP, yes, I understand. I came onto the hair boards being totally uneducated thinking 9 out of 10 black people had my texture of hair. :lachen: *wipes tear*, so silly. I don't know, I'm still confused about all the different aspects of hair that make each person's head look different. But finding a hair twin for me is hard. I think JustKiya is very close to my hair type, MissAlyssa is not quite as close but also similar. I spend a lot of time looking at Sera's fotki because she has the longest natural loose hair I've ever seen for anyone whose hair looks like mine.

That's interesting :yep: Makes sense... I've heard that wavy hair is one of the hardest types to relax straight.

That's SO not my problem though  It isn't nowhere near straight, it's not even in the type 3's.

i get soo confused about my hair type whehn i look at other peoples pictures of their. idk whether im a soft 4a or a thick 3c:wallbash:. at the end of the day it doesnt really matter as long as i have heathy hair but it would be nice to be able to have someone to relate to who has similar hair to mine.

yep! been there so many times!

this thread even messed me up!!

so i thought i was a 4a/b. been thinking i "knew" this for a while now.

when i first came to this board i considered:

tocktick
glamazon and mwedzi to be similiar to me, but now i'm even more confused.
we are all 4a/b, right? i even thought i had the sections in my hair where it changes correct, but maybe i'm wrong?

okay, so i'm thinking maybe i am all 4b and then some z? dang i'm confused.

there is a pic in the siggy, but you can click on the pic to see more hair pics.

thanks ladies!!

thanks for summing it all up for me.

this is my hair too!

the end.

OP, I know what you mean! But with me, it's a little bit of the other way around...i have a weird hair texture... I'm 4a...some 3c in the back...but my hair is really really soft and my hair strands are FINE...but my hair is THICK(a lot of fine strands)...

Anyway...I see a lot of ladies that are 4a with long hair...but I always assume that they have hair that is a little more coarse than mine... Most people that I know who have hair very similar to mine do not get very far past shouldger legnth...Of course they do not know what I know about hair care... but I have to use low-mani to the fullest to reach my goals...I had to forget about ponytails and brushes... or i would be stuck at SL forever!

This is such a good description of my hair. My hair cannot hold a style. I could weigh my hair down with grease and oil (I would never do this:grin:) and it would still blow in the wind because my strands are just so fine.

Conqueror, I grew my hair to BSL before I started cutting it during my transition to natural. Just continue to follow good hair practices (baby those ends), and you will reach your goal

Some people have the same hair type per say in term of the curl pattern. however one person texture may be much softer or silker than the others. I dont know if I explained it well. I guess this happens to me alot because I'm naturally a 4b and i have meet very few 4b's. (but i think this can happen to everyone)

I was thinking precisely the same thing, Sweet. I'm definitely 4B and there are people who claim to be 4B that, upon closer inspection, seem to really be 4A. But then I realized that they may really have the curl pattern of a 4B and have hair that is not very coarse. I have coarse, 4B hair.

i know what you mean somewhat. i only ever get surprised when someone has their hair type listed in their sig but the picture shows something that looks quite different from my own hair which is supposedly the same type. on the other hand, i do feel sometimes that some of my own pics add to the problem. i occasionally get people saying my hair is exactly like theirs yet they are commenting on a stretched hair pic. my hair is usually stretched and when it is, it looks totally like 4b hair. in actuality, my hair is mainly 4a. the definition is clear in natural light or when i define it properly using gel.

Exactly, I'm almost 100% 4A too but yet our hair looks completely different. You have 10 times more hair than I do, but my hair clumps together more than yours does. But going only by type, our hair should look almost identical. It's all just silliness.

Yours is pretty close to mine. So is justkiys's, sonce's, and honesty's. I haven't contacted them personally, but I have posted over on NP.com which has a more people with hair close to mine. I'm still investigating the possibility of anemia. I have an appointment next week. I'm hoping thats the issue, cause then I would know the solution. Off to read your PM :)

me too, me too. i think we have some commonalities. I think we are all type 4. but there is something definitely different about our hair. Maybe it is this "coarseness" this thread is about. Check out Glamazon's bun vs. my bun. And here's another good texture shot with just a little leave-in.

By the way, I have heard the word "coarse" used a couple of different ways. I have seen it used as the opposite of "fine" so to describe the thickness of an individual strand of hair. I have also heard it used to describe the feel of hair, as in hair that feels wiry as opposed to very soft and supple. How are you guys using it?

Goodness your hair is beautiful!!!!:yep:

thanks! :)

:D thanks for the compliment! i think your hair looks thicker than mine. i think i just have a lot of hair but my strands aren't all thick (like i think yours may be). i think your hair is truly thick, i just have a big head so it looks that way :look:. i agree though that the andre system does not give one the full picture at all!

when i first came to this board i considered:

yup, i'm 4a/b. i'm mainly 4a though. my 4b is just frizz and 4a are spirals that range from the small coffee stirrer sizes ones to ones about pen size. my strands range from thin, medium and thick. i mainly have medium stands.

By the way, I have heard the word "coarse" used a couple of different ways...How are you guys using it?

i always thought coarse referred to how the hair felt. i'd say the opposite to coarse was very soft, not fine (opposite of that is thick, imo). i have wiry hair but i wouldn't really call it coarse. when i think of coarse, i picture my filipinio friend who has uber thick, straight but "bushy" hair. her hair doesn't feel dry but it does feel a bit "tough" :look:.

The thread is still alive! Haven't kept a very careful eye on it as I should!
Many of you ladies have such nice hair. I can appreciate the beautify and uniquness of all hair types....just beautiful!

I agree it's very hard to put your hair in a category especially since most people have more than one hair type and or texture type in their hair.

Also for those who are natural hair can look different daily for many reasons like wash, products, if its dry or moisturised.

!!

I have no 4b hair. I'm mostly 4a. A little 3c but mostly 4a.
