Help!! :perplexed

I am perplexed about this whole hair type thing. My whole life I've had thin hair although I'm not really sure what hair type that would make me though? Any suggestions. I've seen pictures of the hair types and none of those look like my hair. My hair has always been pretty soft, but I don't have the indian texture like my mom's, and it's not kinky like my dad's. I don't know if this makes sense. When my hair is wet, it doesn't really shrink, it's usually pretty straight (if that makes sense.) If anyone can help me I'm ready to hear and learn.

Have a Blessed & Prosperous Day!

I'm no hair typing expert ( I still don't have my own type down yet)! Would you say your hair is wavy? It sounds to me like you have type 3 hair (not sure which letter maybe a or b). If your hair isn't quite wavy nor quite straight I would guess you have type 2 hair.

We probably couldn't tell you for sure without actually seeing your hair but from your description, that's what I would say :) !

Thanks for your help!

No my hair isn't wavy. I do have a relaxer and I've been getting a relaxer for so long that I don't remember that natural state of my hair.

I'll have to read up on the descriptions for Type 3 and Type 2 hair. This is really frustrating, but fun in a sense. I'm learning so much, again thanks for your help!

A relaxer is designed to change the structure of your hair. The relaxer can turn medium hair to fine also depending on the condition you maintain your hair or the processing. Course - fine refers to the diameter of each hair strand. Thickness is the volume of hair, thin, medium or thick. How many strands on your head. The types are addressing the amount of wave, crimp to curl. Untill you either find a photo of your natural hair or grow out the relaxer you really won't know the natural type of hair you have. You can however take care of your relaxed hair based on what the relaxer has made it as so many ladies on the forum has done. From experience of my own I could not have treated my relaxed hair the same as my natural. So typing your hair is not as important as to caring for the state it is in.

Hope this helps

The relaxed hair is not going to be a true representation of what your natural hair type is. You would need about 1/2 - 1 1/2 inch of new growth to determine this.

This confuses me too,divinefavor...lol. I am 10 weeks post relaxer and do know that my hair is really curly but not like big curls. Its kinda kinky but as soon as I oil it up, it creates waves. That is why I have no clue, lol.

Whew, glad to see I'm not the only one confused.

Thanks vickiepickles and vintagecoilylocks for your advice. What you both said makes a lot of sense.
