I can't use oil on my hair - it HATES it with a passion. Coconut oil is still up in the air (and I think that's because it solidifies) and red palm oil/butter is up in the air as well. My skin, however, loves both.

On my scalp, I use Amla/Vatika oil.....

I might try mixing some of my oils with some of my butters and seeing how that turns out - I'm just nervous about it.

Castor Oil, Olive Oil. Coconut Oil, Amla and EMU Oil. Castor and Olive oils more frequently. :yep:

So many oils, so little time...

My hair is type 3b/c and I use most of the oils you listed at one point or another, i.e.
  • coconut and castor oils blended with ylang ylang when roller setting and for daily use
  • Dabur Vatika Oil as an overnight treatment
  • EVOO to rinse out henna
  • Dabur Amla Hair Oil in my henna mix
  • jojoba when I need something on the light side
  • sweet almond oil mixed in my DC
Plus others not listed, like monoï oil and another one from anitagrant.com that smells like marzipan and maraschino cherries (can't remember the name just now). I also use Meera Herbal Oil.

ETA: I forgot shea butter and avocado oil. I add them to my conditioner sometimes.

I use all of the above and then some. I am an oil fiend now. I use all of them on my hair and scalp and some of them on my skin after a shower or bath.

Camelia
Almond
Grapeseed
Red Palm

Butters - Shaealoe, Red Palm, Avocado, etc.

Then you have the essential oils. I could go on......:yep::spinning::grin:

I use all of the above- but I'm finding my hair doesn't like straight oils unless its only jojoba- the other oils tend to just sit on the top of my hair without penetration. So I mix them with something creamy and Im good to go. I should have remembered that Hot oil treatments never worked for me as a child either. I also use Bhringraj oil for my hair when i do my baggying.

I was in the mall today, and was picking up my MSM (switched to powder form because it's cheaper and there is more) And some oils for my hair.

I was in the GNC for ages deciding which oil one to get... YIKES!!

Anyway.....

Search function isn't working, so for the naturals, state what your hair type is, which oil you use on your hair the most and how do you use it?

TIA.

Hair type-4a
Hair oil- Castor oil

I CO and baggy my hair every night. I put the conditioner on then the castor oil. I tried Coconut oil but it didn't make my hair as soft as the castor oil.

I use a lot of different oils, but the three I use most are castor, amla, and coconut. I also like to mix emu oil in with these oils. I've just started using coconut oil as a pre-poo, and I really like it. It makes my hair soft and I seem to have less shedding.

I am natural 4a/b, and I mostly use castor oil.

Castor Oil as a sealant and mixed in with conditioner.

Red Palm Oil and Vatika Oil as pree-poo treatment or for oil rinses.

Everyday use: extra virgin coconut oil...leaves my hair so soft

DT: EVOO and/or melted shea butter

It's interesting that I really do love the Qhemet Burdock Root BC, but I didn't have such a great experience with castor oil...I think I'm going to revisit castor oil though.

I voted other. My hair is not very fond of oil anymore it just kind of sits on my hair making it feel like a greasy mess. I use Africa's Best ultimate Herbal Oil and its about the only one that absorbs and makes my curls pop feel smooth it also works well on the body esp in the summer
here's the ingredients
Soy Bean Oil , Walnut Seed Oil , Kiwi Fruit Extract , Olive Fruit Oil , Castor Seed Oil , Sesame Seed Oil , Jojoba Seed Oil , Carrot Seed Oil , Sweet Almond Oil , Tocopheryl Acetate , Safflower Oil , Calendula Extract , Yarrow Extract , Cucumber Extract , Carrageenan Extract , Ginseng Extract , Sage Extract , Comfrey Extract , Aloe Extract , Fragrance

There wasn't an option for those of us who use more than one, I use JBCO, Coconut, Jojoba...I alternate my oils. I do use Coconut oil more frequently:yawn:

I use oils on my scalp, and occasionally to seal. I don't really put it on my hair...only when I'm doing a prepoo treatment.

I had a serious shealoe jones, but I couldn't get a fix. So I was only using castor until I was able to get more and ended up falling in love with the stuff. I still use shealoe, but I find myself reaching for the castor oil, which is okay with me :lick: .

I  your siggy! Those braids are too cute, if I see one more person with some cute mini braids I'm going to reconsider my position on small braids:scratchch

LadyKaypnyc, Thank you.

Go ahead and give 'em a try. They do take much longer than twists, but last so much longer in my hair.

I'm mostly 4a, some 3c. I've used almost all of the oils you listed. For winter dry weather, nothing, NOTHING, can compare with castor oil. When I was relaxed I'd use it on my scalp and ends before blow drying and OMG  my hair kept moisture so well and smelled heavenly! Not like Amla :barf:

Coconut oil is great to apply right after a DC. Not only does it seal in the moisture that was already there, it seems to sink in to the hair and moisturize it more. Smells yummy, too! :lick:

I am in love with apricot kernal oil, and avocado oils! They seem to penetrate my hair shaft and make my hair so soft and hold mostiure really well.

in order: africas best herbal oil, EVOO, castor oil.

i use the first two to seal and i use the last two in my DCs.

i want to try avocado oil and coconut oil.

I voted other; melted shea butter (shea butter oil) is the only oil that doesn't feel like it just sits on my hair. I mean, after I use it my hair feels incredibly moisturized and soft.
ooh i only use it melted in my DCs. this sounds gooood!

I use my coconut oil daily, my hair loves this stuff. I use EVOO in all my conditioners and I use castor mostly on my scalp sparingly.

Hair Type: 4a/3c
Fav Oil: Castor Oil
How: I use it on soaking wet hair once i step out of the shower... it locks in the moisture and makes my hair SO strong and it brings out the little curlies. I just came back from florida.. and I bought a denman :spinning:... I'm DCing my hair right now and as soon as the airports drops off my luggage that got shipped in minneapolis (don't ask) this evening I'll use my castor oil and denman and see if i can perfect my wash and go =D

Ive tried Evoo and it Was to Greasy/Heavy So i only use it on my Ends But i really would like to try Castor oil And Coconut oil

This was an old thread. But anyway. I use all of the oils mentioned except jojoba. I use almond oil which is cheaper and is identical to jojoba and works just the same. Coconut oil is my staple and I mix my amla with MSM(the powder) and my hair is THRIVING! I also use shea butter as a conditioner.

ETA~ I'm a 4a/b
