Would you pay for regimen advice?

Hi! Im pretty sure you are talking about me The dvd tutorial was my clue...

The consultation is really for people who are totally lost and really was designed to help me manage my email volume. This way, people would be less inclined to email me with questions like "whats a prepoo" which can be answered via my search button.

In addition, sometimes I would spend a lot of time on a response and then never hear from them again..not even a thanks..Plus, with all of the emails from the blogs, forums, etc. I was not spending that time on creating new content, dvds, etc. which is ultimately what I need to pay the bills.

I also started a social network with blogs and forums so people could ask general questions. I just wanted to focus my time more and spend time with the people who wanted my specific advice.

I guess it depends on what it is and the person I want it from. I think we are paying for regimen advice on here and np. We can ask questions, for help, when we are desperate or have done something really crazy or just need encouragement. Adopt a newbie is a very good example of this, they had to become paying members before they could get the advice and assistance they needed.

I have paid for books, DVDs, products, tools and utensils so why not a regimen if I felt it warranted it?

I have used Motown Girls phone service, where you pay for the phone call and talk to her for a specific amount of time at an appointed time during the day. It wasn't expensive at all and this was before I became a paying member here.

This was beneficial for me because I wanted to know more about oils, heavy versus light and when to use them and her hair type looked similar to mine and she was successful in growing, cutting and growing again her hair.

I have even contacted via phone call or email others like Robyn at Grow Afro Hair Long, and we won't even discuss the kind and wonderful ladies with fotkis.

The knowledge that has been dropped on me has been invaluable and I feel I have gotten my monies worth as well as tons and tons of free advice.

PS. I will be paying that 6.50 next year and every year there after because I have not only learned as well as taught others, I have met some really neat ladies and at least one or two gentlemen on this forum and others.

ITA. I've bought everything else - $5 isn't much for a regimen. I sent a pm to a member asking for her reggie she was very helpful. But i wouldn't charge for info. - b/c everyone else has been so generous to me.

I don't think I would pay. I'll pay to join a forum because then I can get the collective wisdom of hundreds of people. But one person? So far, several people have given me advice and though I'm sure it works well for them when I tried it I didn't get the same results. I think trying stuff out is the only way I can find what's best for my hair, no one can tell me exactly what to do, and if they can't tell me exactly what to do, it's no better than the collective advice I can get from a forum.

Though I might be willing to part with $5 for an in-person consultation from someone who was well-versed in many types of hair so I know their advice could be more applicable to me rather than just what works for their hair. In fact, I'd pay more than $5 for that.

If, we're counting books also. Yes, I would/do pay for regimen advice and I'm going to purchase Macherie dvd tutorial very soon because I have no idea how to do a real rollerset. I do my rollersets with my caruso's and then wrap and take down and viola (see my avatar) but it only last for a day So yep, I would pay for regimens Macherie, I'm coming for that dvd soon I'll spend my $'s on hard copy purchases ONLY. Books and DVD's. No e-books and stuff of that nature.

Otherwise no. There is entirely too much information for free from a variety of sources. That's whay it makes me so sad to see women with jacked up hair because the help and info is out there. All you have to do is LOOK.

yup and there it is i mean unless you are really impatient and are in dire need of hair advice i think you are better off researching. Sure you can pay to get the "perfect" regimen within 5 minutes but ur hair still wont make a complete turn around for at least a good 6 months. so duing that time gather the basic facts which take no more than a week and start making changes from there.

And pay them well! I thank God for LHCF. I have only been a member a short time and I feel as though some of the ladies here are more knowledgeable and open than many paid professionals. I don't believe that many of my former stylists would be able to break down the chemicals/ingredients in many products the way that some of the ladies here can. And they had the nerve to want to be hush-hush about the products they were using on my head.

To find someone with my hair type that has come from where I am now and is currently where I strive to be is invaluable. To be mentored by someone who has already made all the mistakes and would baby-step me through the process is worth a lot to me.

Of course there would have to be a guarantee! (Don't take my money and let my head still be jacked up)

Like momma used to tell me: "A smart person learns from her mistakes but a wise person can learn from someone elses."

That would kinda be hard to monitor though. I mean, the customer agrees to pay $5 for the regimen, but if it is not followed and Marcherie is not there to monitor it in person to make sure it is actually being followed, a guarantee can't really be offered

Since she's pretty much a one-woman job, it would not be financially sound to make a promise that if you don't see a change in your hair within 6 weeks, you will receive your $5 back. Any person can take advantage of that.

Example: At my last job, a lot of customers knew we would take our specialty pens back if it they were faulty. Those who took advantage of us would purchase $200 pens, then come back a week later and actually have the nerve to say, "I dropped this and it broke...can I have my money back?" I hear it all the time and yes, it actually happened.

Well I purchased Macherieamour's DVD on roller setting to give as a gift to a "relaxer" head.

I think many of you don't understand the amount of IGNORANCE that is still out there regarding afro-texture hair. I mean, I'm in Sally's speaking with a licensed Beautician that doesn't have a clue of what to do with her biracial daughter's hair. She's clueless on any of the online products discussed on this board or even the existence of any of the hair boards. Oh and don't let me get started on other black women, who constantly tell me they'd go natural if their hair were like mine. Huh? My hair is as nappy as anyone else's! I'm just bold with products and stealing ideas from all of the you and the other boards! Oh and talkin 'bout heat over dose! And of course "Black hair just don't grow!" mentality and every long haired black woman has on a weave! They've never heard of LHCF or any hair board!

So I'd say "yeah" for some folks, they need to, if only to dispell their ignorance about their own afro-textured hair. Some can benefit from a "HAIR COACH" so to speak to dispell some of the ignorance that is LOCKED DOWN into their minds about their hair, no matter how they wish to wear it. However, one should be careful when going down this road. First check out the individuals hair and get as much of their free info as possible and then if you feel you want this person to be your "Hair Coach" then go for it, but the pricing should be within reason.

There was some chick claiming to be a "Hair Consultant" and sold a 6 minute video for $10 bucks. The video showed you how to put the slimiest greases hair into a french roll with some fake hair and fitty-million bobby-pins! Another alledged "Hair Coach" wants to sucker you into paying $20 bucks to know their secret of growing split ends! I don't think she realizes this is what's blowing in the wind of her site video. While there are others sites with greasy hair ladies selling you their hair growth concotions all in Jesus name. Just let your common sense prevail and your purse strings. If it sounds good to you and you can afford the risk, I'd say go for it. It could be to your benefit.

I just purchased Nedjetti's Natural Hairstyling DVD. I'll give it a "good" rating for demonstrating the how to's on the styles and all. However, on her future DVD's my suggestion would be for her to hire another video production team. Technically speaking it was a bit too amateurish, but that's the risk when purchasing DVD's. I don't think I'll pay $30 bucks (w/shipping) for one ever again from any content or demonstration. Ahhh we live and learn, just remember to have a cookie jar of $$ for your hair ventures.

I see where Macherie would charge money in order to reduce the amount of random emails being sent to her. I know I sent her an email asking her about hair her color and later realized she didn't use any . I think $5 dollars might be a bit much just to answer a question tho, but that's just my opinion. I don't mind paying that kind of money for being on LHCF because I have a whole year to ask as many questions as I want and to share my knowledge with others on this site.

I am completely in support of you. Your site is beautiful and informative. Time is money, and money is time. Also from the looks of you hair, you know what your doing, and also you are letting people know that you are not a licensed cosmetologist......Keep the DVD's coming I am waiting for the t/u dvd. On the flip side I can see why many other LHCF members or any hair board member might not pay, but that's b/c we are not the norm. We are more educated in the hair game. There are so many lay peoplethat honestly have no clue.

Thanks for all of the kind compliments and feedback. The funny thing is that my "target market" really isnt LHCF because you guys are familiar with forums, internet, experimenting and sharing.

But a lot of people are really shy, intimidated to ask questions or post pictures out there in cyberspace, or even feel intimidated by a forum with over 30,000 members. So, I guess, the people who email me want more intimate interaction or want all of the info at once i.e. tell me everything.

Some of it is my advice but Ive also sent very short videos clips that demonstrate a technique or method just for them to help them troubleshoot around certain areas. Also, the $5 is not a one time event, so I will go back and forth with them until they are happy.

For smaller questions, like "where did you buy the clips in the dvd" I dont mind answering on the blog or via email. Its more the "my hair is breaking, please help" that I need to set up a consultation so I can learn more about history, products, methods and point them in the right direction. And if I cant help them, Ill gladly refund their money.

And for those that dont feel comfortable paying, I set up a social network (kinda like myspace meets facebook) so people could ask each other.

Ummm hummmm, I have both of those books also and a book by Nicole Smith but Carolyn Gray's book is my hair bible! That book gave me 3 inches in 6 months like it said! I love that book! I follow her steps and I keep ALL my growth. I never had a set back *knocks on wood* so ummmm hummm, I'll pay. LOL.

The hair board you can see for free. Would pay one of your hair idols?Keep in mind they are not licensed cosmetologist but can almost write a book about hair. This hair idols has already sold great dvd tutorial.

Yes, if she met with me and evaluated my hair in person and gave me tips that I should use, yes. That's because I know exactly who you're talking about... and she lives in my CITY!! Why didn't I go that that darn Philly meet-up?? The crazy thing is, most of the people with a license are not the ones who will truely take care of your hair. They're mostly trained for styling hair, now taking care of it.
