What reaction do you get from having healthy or longer hair? Seems like I get much more respect, especially from the opposite sex. Usually this is when I wear my hair down. WHat reactions do you get?

maybe its cus you feel better when your hair is out and healthy and long....so you walk w/ a confident strut....confidence is attractive..

i think this is more the case since girls w/ short lil old school halle hair can confidently strut and turn as many heads as someone w/ hair down to their buttcrack.....:yep:

There is a book written about this by black stylist, Barry Fletcher called, Hair is Sexual. He writes about the power of women's hair on men, no matter what the length, as long as it's beautiful and healthy. :yep:

"Hair is a symbolic, powerful and eroticallly charged body part. Not to mention your most important fashion accessory..."

Yes, it's a quick read and I have it in my hand. :yep: The book was written in 2003 so it isn't that old. He writes about the psychology of hair on women and how their hair affects men, whether it's their own hair or weave. It has pictures of beautiful, black women (some famous) and their hair long, medium and short throughout the book. These are women whose hair he styled. At the end of the book he has his own hair product line. :)

I notice that when my hair is down i get MUCH more attention from men. I can walk into the gym with my hair in a bun and not one man will look at me. The next day I walk in with my hair down and the SAME men are like "Hello!" :yep:

Oh!! i totally agree with this. When I was in school there were a couple ladies with very long hair - just gorgeous in my opinion. But there was also this cute girl with a pixie cut - I mean she had confidence coming out of her pores, lol. She was the one who got all the attention from the guys:grin:.

I'll never forget the first time I really realized this! I was in highschool and went to get my hair done by a recommended stylist. The stylist's nephew was there talking up a storm with her and when I sat down in her chair he decided to make me his teasing target. He starts talking about the fake hair in my bun (I had no weave), and how much I needed his aunt's help, and asking me if I needed to take care of my "bedebees" (sp?). I sat there the whole time and didn't say a word, I just smiled at his foolishness. While the stylist gathered her equipment, I then began to take down my bun. All of a sudden the guys face went from this.... :blah: to that.... and to this....:wacky:

I felt so powerful!:brucelee:
Silent victories are so sweet!:cool2:

Hair is everything, no matter what length it is. If that hair is tore up then so are you in my opinion.

A Woman's hair is her glory and I think your hair says a lot about your personality.

you've got to be kidding!!! that's ridiculous! You didn't say anything when he was speaking to/about you like that? I would have said something and left that place.

HAIR IS POWER!!!!!!!
Black men especially loves long hair on black women. Hair is power because it boosts self confidence thus automatically making you more attractive to the oposite sex.

From my observations, men AND women find healthy long hair attractive. To an extent I think healthy hair is power :yep:

Hair is definitely power especially in the black community! Men and women give their own reaction when they see a head of healthy hair.

i really feel that there is no difference in the way that i act when my hair is up/down straight/curly...
that being said when my hair is freshly straightened, i get a lot more attention from women and men... usually my coworkers who don't talk to me come up and have something to say all of a sudden all while staring at my hair.

I agree with that right there! My hair has been long, short, and in-between, but because it was healthy I got compliments from men and women.

I was about 15 or 16 when this happened to me and the nephew definently looked older. He appeared to be in his early 20s.

Whimsy, unfortunately at that time and age getting my hair done was more important than that fool and I heard this woman was good. So, I guess I just grinned and bared it. My results turned out decent, I hardly remember it, but trust me these are the type of experiences that forced me to learn to do my own hair and gave me a negative view of many salons in general.

I never went back and I'm working on my attitude towards salons, one day at a time while doing my own hair:yep:.

I agree with you. There are still many women who thinks that Black women only have long hair with weaves. And when they see long hair that's all yours; they're surprised. Especially if you don't wear it down often.

I don't think men care for long hair, but they like healthy, well-groomed hair. And they usually don't care if it's a weave or not.

LMAO :lachen::lachen: It's the equivalent of slapping him in the face! I would've loved to be a fly on the wall.

My bff and I were just talking about this. It’s sad that it took me soooooo long to find out that Hair is indeed ‘Power’. Most men are obsessed with long hair. My SO begs me to not get trims b/c he consider em’ hair cuts. My bff SO is overseas for a year and when he left he told her he wanted to see her w/hair down her back when he returns. Every time I see a black women w/long, healthy hair I can almost do a back-flip on spot. I LOVE IT! :lick:

So true. And they love "real" hair no matter how long. One of my female friends used to wear weave for the longest. She just started wearing her natural hair out (it's about ear length). Her SO just about went crazy when she started wearing her natural hair!! She said he just kept running his hands thru her hair and asked her to never get weave again.

Okkaaayyy. My SO is the same way, I've been doing a lot of protective styling since I've found the hair boards and so SO doesn't get to see my natural hair as much, but when he does, he is constantly running his fingers through my hair but if I'm wearing a half-wig he doesn't go near it. . . lol.

He is too funny! :lachen: They hate weave for sure.............

It's amazing how good healthy hair no matter what length brings out the best in us! I now know the meaning of crown and glory! Can I get an AMEN!?

Exactly what I was gonna say! I wore the Halle short cut, and even the shortest Toni Braxton cut for years. And girl, I was turning all kinds of heads. It is a CONFIDENCE thing. When your hair is on point, outfit is cute (either casual or dressy), makeup (either light or formal)....posture straight up, strut mean and clean......... it all plays a part in how you feel and you exude that positive energy.
