Currently I am APL and that took about 16 months

I wanted hip length but i am transitioning so now i don't know what i want

Starting length was SL and now its touching the top of my bra strap. I'm doing that from when I started taking care of my hair and stopped going to the hair salon which has been about a year. My hair was doing alright but she kept cutting it; since I stopped going to the stylist, my hair is going places.

Restarting after the stylist thought "layers" would make my hair look fuller and chopped off my apl hair SL last May (excuse my shiny forehead):

I'm still mad, that hair would fall right in my eyes

Every time I let a stylist tell me what's best for my hair I end up angry. My dad was like "yeah even I was mad at that."

Now: APL with those short layers in the front beyond SL (and at least chin length) for the most part. I didn't come back to LHCF and read it regularly until a few months ago.

I started at 2 inches past shoulder and now I am 2 inches from BSL.
I have been actively growing my hair for about 5 months. My ultimate goal is MBL. But if I get there and I am still suffering from Hair anorexia then I will grow onto WSL

What is your regimen that you can grow you hair that much in 5 months? I am starting out just below shoulder length *in January* I haven't done a growth check yet *April* and would love to be brastrap in 5 months .

What would you say contributed most to your growth?

This amazes me cuz my stylist does exactly what I ask her to do. What do you think is the reason for Black stylists(if they were Black) to be scissor happy? Jealousy? Not paying attention? Wanting to do it their way?

To answer the OP's question, I found this board this month my hair is cut in layers and almost to my shoulders. Shoulder length all around is my goal, with some layers on the top, I should be at my goal length by mid summer,anything past shoulders would be a nuisance for me.

One of my stylists was black but she works at the Dominican salon Michelle's hair cutters. Violet would tell me every time I went there that it would look good in layers (I always wear my hair back so layers too short to go back properly were just )

The other stylist was in Queens when I used to go to the JC Penny salon in the mall for relaxers. She was all "mami, you need layers." I did not need layers. I'm ok with my fine hair, stop trying to give me volume by cutting it all over the place so I look like a puffball when it's curly.

Granted this was the SAME stylist that used to put the relaxer all the way through my hair before I knew better. I asked her once and she was like "oh this just makes it smooth, it doesn't hurt your hair."

Interesting. My stylist is Jamaican and thank God she does exactly what I tell her to do. If I want layers, she gives me layers, if I want to grow one length she does that. I just can't imagine going to a stylist and telling them I only want a trim, but ending up with complete haircut. I would be so mad and they would know it!

When I first started my hair journey I had a fro in Feb 07 now I am layered armpit length.I wash & DC twice a week and keep it in a bun a( I use mn too which is amazing). I want to be bra strap by my b-day in July and past bra strap by Christmas.

My goal this year is for collar length.

I have been natural since the 90's but started really working on healthy hair Dec. 05. Back then my hair was around my neck. Now it is BSL or longer I have not checked it lately. Been focused on just keeping it healthy since I have had some major health issues since December.

Well after unsuccessful self-relaxing, taking bad hair advice, switching up perms, and not knowing heat protectants existed; around 2-3 years ago, my hair just started to break off. And I still continued perming. I had to cut all my hair, cause half of it broke off anyway.

I cut it all off in October 2006. I cut off most of the permed hair. I had to leave some that I would be able to keep my braids in. After my hair grew a little bit, I then cut off the rest of the permed hair.

Here is my progress. (I also used Wild Growth to help my hair grow faster):

Pre-LHCF - My usual length was neck length. Unless I wore weaves or something and it had a rest from my daily hair antics.

At the start of LHCF - My hair was around shoulder length. It was just beginning to 'crawl down my back' a little. It was damaged: over-processed, thin with scraggly ends and I used heat everyday.

Currently - (3 years post) My hair is around midback length.
