Mmmm....so does henna add protein ? shine ? and color ? My hair is black, does it come in black ? why add lemon juice ?
extra proteins ? Does it make it any more tangled than aphogee ?
if henna has protein in it, do I need to do my regular protein conditioners or does henna add enough to slow up adding more ?
...Yeah, I have lotsa questions

Mmmm....so does henna add protein ? shine ? and color ?

Henna is a plant and contains protein. Yes, it adds shine, protein and color as it binds to the keratin in the hair shaft.

My hair is black, does it come in black ?

Henna is always colors red. However, one can get deep, blue-black by doing an all henna treatment, rinsing, then doing an indigo treatment. Or an off black(if your hair is already black or dark) by doing 1/3 henna and 2/3 indigo.

why add lemon juice ?

Lemon juice is an acid and it is supposed to help the color hold better when mixed with henna. It's very drying to hair, especially already relaxed hair so I avoided it after reading so many posts about it. Some have no problems with lemon juice though.

extra proteins ?
Some of the ladies add extra protein like yogurt. Some experience hard hair from this, others don't.

Does it make it any more tangled than aphogee ?
I've never tried aphogee so someone else would have to answer that one.

That depends on how often you plan to use henna. Some do a henna treatment every wash day and others don't. For me, henna is just like a protein treatment so I'll count it as such. The difference is that henna can be done as often as the next day with only benefits to the hair, not hardness or dryness as doing several protein treatments.

Ladies - love the shine - your hair is beautiful.

Question: does cassia give the same benefits of strength, thickness, and shine that henna does?

I do not want to change the color of my hair, but I'd love to have the other benefits when I am out of braids.

I'm doing my second henna right now and I'm excited to see the results! I was wondering if yall knew how to get it on the length of my hair a little easier. Thanks guys! :)

It was easiest for me to scoop it up in my gloved hands and apply it to my length that way. Especially the second time, I made more of a gloss by adding honey and it was easier to apply. As I mentioned in my previous posts, I'll add pectin next time for even more ease.

My siggie picture was taken after my first henna gloss. Oh - and there's also a picture in my profile of my first henna gloss in an updo.

I like using henna for the slight reddish-burgandy tint & shine it gives my hair--it also makes my hair feel stronger

The only thing is for some reason the color only appears in certain areas, it's not all over like I would like

Ooooh, how'd I miss THIS thread!?!?! GORGEOUS Hair Ladies!!!

Nappyrina - my hair is like that too - a couple of twists in the front show the color pretty well, but otherwise - nada.

Here's a pic of my henna bling!! I think this is the best one I have without too much flash....

nappywomyn...you hair looks nice...the flat twists in the back look really smooth & soft..is that your natural texure or did you stretch your hair or something before doing the back?

Without the flash, the shine is no longer visible on my hair, so I guess in person it does not look shiny, but maybe a little extra sheen...the burgandy color does show up in the sunlight though really pretty but I hate that only a few sections look burgandy...I guess I have unintentional highlights

Urm......I don't remember doing anything different, so I most likely detangled after a wash, and let that section airdry in four fat braids with some whipped pudding/shealoe butter in it, then combed out with a little more WP..... my hair 'flattens' out relatively easily - it just shrinks up twice as easy, which is why I almost never wear it out.

I dont have the pics but because of this site I henna'd my hair a few months ago and honestly it did nothing for my hair, however, I think I mixed it wrong or I may have gotten the wrong brand. Is there a certain henna to use and another to stay away from? If so enlighten me because I see the results on other members hair here on the site and the color looks great. I would like to henna my hair. So once again, what brand of henna should I buy and how should I mix it? I have heard some women say that they mix it and put their own oils in it and I have heard others say that they mix it and let it stay out over night. What to do?:perplexed

What a great thread! I have been thinking about trying henna. I love rhassoul for cleansing... so henna seems like the next logical choice for conditioning. I'm also interested in lotus powder. I'm going to be all natural after a while, this is so cool! Also, ladies, I LOVE the bling I've seen so far!
