Thanks Isis!!!

AkaTude!!! Wow, your color!!! What did you do to get it that red? Was your hair already red or a very light color? Its soooooo pretty. If you used ACV or lemon juice in your mix, that will make your hair dry on the initial rinse. If you add a moisturizing conditioner and/or some essential oils then your hair should be softer at the initial rinse.

Thanx Stillettos!

Cayenne, thank u 2!

Yeah, the color was a surprise but I LUV IT! I don't know how it got that red except that my hair was a light brown (dyed) b4 I henna'd. I did add acv, but I added olive & amla oils too. But it's ok- this turned out really well!

The only other thing in my hair is Dove Styling Mousse.

I LOVEEEEEEEEEE  your hair...it's so thick. I think it was you who's friend was a hair hater...I can see why  .

ETA: I love your color too. Would you mind sharing your henna mix ?

Girl, you've got me over here grinnin!:D Yes, I had a hair hater in my life. I love that my hair can "appear" to be thick when its not. Thank you so much for the compliment because it is very encouraging when a person is feeling like crap about their hair (like me right now)....shedding, breaking,....blah blah...
Anyway, my henna recipe is:
2 tablespoons of Jamila Henna
1 tablespoon of amla powder
1 tablespoon (or a little less) indigo
1/4 cup of water
1 tablespoon of moisturizing conditioner (DPR11 or something like that)
1 tablespoon of EVOO
1 tablespoon of Honey
and I may throw in another oil like Jojoba.

I only use the indigo to balance out the henna so that my hair doesn't end up redder than I intended. It was really easy for me. I put it in a squeeze bottle with a nozzle on tip. Tied a wrap strip around my hair parameter and put on some gloves to smooth it through. I sit under the dryer for and hour and then let it sit (no heat) for another hour. I rinse in the shower and apply a little bit of NTM conditioner for a final rinse. My hair feels like silk afterwards and super strong.
HTH

WOW VIXXEN!!!! You know you and Sareca were my true inspirations and educators when I first decided to henna. Your hair looks so wonderful!!!

I think I'm being pulled to the dark side.:lachen:

One question though, if I want to get the reddish tint like Jlove, is there a simpler way to mix the henna, like say, with water only?

I've looked at the other 'recipes' and it's making my head spin.... If I have to do all of that, I dunno.:(

Girl, my motto is this KEEP IT SIMPLE SILLY.....

I only mix the henna with hot water, oils and some condish. That's it. No exact measurements.

I have mehendi henna it says it is blended with amla, shakikai and some other stuff. Is this ok to use on my hair?

is Mehendi the brand? the proper term for henna is Mehndi, so that may not be the brand. I'm confusing myself!!!!

See when "other stuff" is included, I get a little scared, because what is the "other stuff" - I dunno....

Co-sign!

JLove, you (& a couple of others) are the reason I decided to do henna.

Yo hurr iz purrdee!!

I use hot water and oil ONLY; leave the henna mix for 30-40 minutes before putting it in, and get the same reddish tint. It is not necessary to go all out and add many things. Basic water and oil works just as great not to mention simpler!

Don't be scuured! Those good indian herbs make ya hair grow girl!
See:
AMLA is a known hair tonic and a hair nourisher. It also promotes hair pigmentation, which makes the hair look dark. Soak amla in water overnight. Use this water to rinse hair.

2. Mix equal amounts of dried shikakai, amla and ritha and powder them. They can either be mixed and then powdered or powdered first and then mixed together. Soak 2-3 handfuls of this mixture over night in some water. It should not be too thin. Next day sieve it and use it to wash hair. It also promotes hair growth and prevents dandruff.
