Yep. I take an iron supplement everyday (two a day during my cycle).

you ladies might want to try it.
Yes extremely! I had to get iron infusions through an IV on a weekly/monthly basis for several years. Last year I had a NovaSure procedure to control my very heavy cycles, and I haven't had a cycle since then (thank the Lord)!!! My anemia has been under control since then. Ironically, taking 5 mg of biotin everyday is also helping to maintain my iron levels and red blood cell count. Who would have thunk it?![]()
I'm getting iron infusions now and you had to get them for several years? Hmmmmm....what is NovaSure and how do they do the procedure?
Yes, unfortunately. When I start a cycle of infusions, I usually have them every week for about 4 months, then I go to every other week for 4 months, then to every month if my ferritin and blood levels come up high enough. After about a year, I went for a year with just monitoring and my levels plummeted so I started the whole thing over but stayed on the infusions until I had the NovaSure. I'm due for a one-year review now. I would say I had infusions on a regular basis for 5 or 6 years. Sometimes I had to get stuck 5 or 6 times to find a vein...anemic veins are usually very small. Anyway, the NovaSure is a newer technique for the endometrial ablation. It destroys the endometrial lining using a burning techinque. I had mine in the hospital under general anesthesia, but it only took about 30 minutes from start to finish. The procedure itself takes about 5 minutes to complete, no cutting...it's minimally invasive. I recovered with some cramping, but not as bad as my monthly cramps. I could actually have gone back to work the next day, but I had it on a Friday so I had the weekend to sleep off the anesthesia. Once the lining heals up from being burned from the instrument that is used, a good scenario would be much lighter periods...a great scenario is no periods at all. Please look online....there is tons of information about the procedure at the NovaSure site. I saw pictures of mine and I expected the inside of my uterus to look burnt, but it actually looked really white and fluffy with some tan areas, instead of initally very pink and smooth. For me, it was a great alternative to a regular endometrial ablation or a hysterectomy. HTH!!
Wow. I was wondering why I couldn't walk from my car to my apartment without doubling over to catch my breath. I was always tired, and was getting these patches in my head. I couldn't run a mile like I used to.
Right after New Year's, I started getting intermittent pain near my heart. Wasn't chronic, but totally unusual and scared the crap outta me. I had given up my strong coffee for this year's resolution cuz I was getting crazy arrythmia that made me panic. Plus I was feeling my heart beat HARD for no apparent reason. I went to the doc and had a CBC done. The next day, my doc blew up my home, work, AND cell phones, telling me to go the hospital STAT!
Turns out I was heading toward heart failure! The chest pain was telling me that it was working TOO hard because I wasn't getting enough iron to transport oxygen to my organs.
So I was hospitalized a couple weeks ago and got FOUR units of blood and was discharged to take ferrous sulfate 3 times a day plus folic acid and vitamin C. My mom has me drinking lots of low-fat milk to prevent constipation (it works!) I feel MUCH better (wonder if this is how vampires feel? LOL!), but the weirdest thing happened afterward: I had a lot of shedding breakage, but I got it under control after stepping up my co-washes and ACV rinses. I'm now noticing that my hair has gotten thicker and I'm thinking about going back natural.
Ladies, PLEASE don't hesitate to get treatment if you're terribly anemic. Heart disease/failure kills more women each year than breast cancer and AIDS.
Sorry that I ran my mouth...and HTH,
Pink Gator
Mine is so severe, that I cannot have the heart treatment that I need to stop my irregular heart beats. Which is also a cause from the anemia.
In other words, my anemia has damaged my heart, slighty, very slighty.
. Who knows, just may help my hair grow and stop this irregular heartbeat.
I actually have Beta Thalassemia Minor, which is often confused for anemia or sickle cell.
