So I was stalking y'all's hair last night and showing DH what beautiful heads of hair y'all have, and I came across a pic of one of you (I will not mention names:grin:) with long thick luscious hair and DH saids "thats not real!" (oh no he didn't!!! :lachen:thats why I am not mentioning names:lachen::lachen:), I am like "oh yes it is". We go on with the "no it isn't" and "yes, it is". Finally he says "well, I didn't think black women can grow hair that long" :nono:, I am like "Honey...Thats why I am on this board:grin:".
Oh... did i mention my DH is white:blush:!
I am just thinking, no wonder he keeps telling me I would look good with short hair,it's not about whether I would look better with long or short hair, he just doesn't believe I can grow my hair long, he thinks all my efforts are for nothing, well WE WILL JUST SEE ABOUT THAT NOW...WON"T WE:look::look::look:?
Anyway, just thought I would share...don't be mad at him....What does he know:rolleyes:.
Do you always show him the hair albums you visit?

Well, like my mama used to say, "I can show you better than I can tell you." Just make sure you take a picture of him when your SWANGIN hair smacks him up side his head! :lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen:

I was thinking the same thing. And tell him don't be trying to grab the pony when you guys are getting down either. :lachen:

Some nerve.:nono:

Now you know you wasn't supposed to tell anyone that fact.:look::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen:

But, its okay. Its happened to me before, too. But, remember... long hair has REALLY only been in style since about 2006. Before then, it was about the Nicole Bob, The Halle Crop, and the Beyonce Braids. Hair styles are always changing and I think that black women are the only ones who are so daring with their hair to rock every single one. Now, its all about crazy color, and the Assymetrical cut like Saleisha and Kelis.

oh gosh...i probably shouldn't even write this, but my bf thinks the same thing (black girls can't grow long hair) ANNNNDDDDD he's black! :lachen:He's slowly starting to take notice of my hair though. I'll be sure to post his picture when my pony tail is smacking him in the face! :lachen:

No...just when I find hair that makes me think, "my hair will look like that one day". This was the first time actually. I hope I am not breaking any rules by showing him:blush:. Please let me know if this is not allowed.

Hey!! :)

Well, I'm not mad because there are people in our OWN families that feel the same, so why be mad? Well when you do grow your hair out, and guys start noticing, he might feel a little jealous.

I'd chalk that up to experience and not to his ignorance (or his race). :lachen:

We can obviously grow our hair long, and it's definitely more common as our knowledge of hair continues to increase and spread but in all fairness, most black women walking around do not have thick long luxurious heads of hair (because they were not taught the wealth of things on this board) so if all you see is relatively short heads of hair on most black women you come into contact with, you would start to believe that and understandably so.

No you aren't breaking any rules by showing him. I was just asking, that's all.

i don't see a problem with what he said, when 90% of black people believe you can't have long hair unless you are mixed...

For me the color of the person doesn't matter. I don't care who you are...it still kind of annoys me.:ohwell:

Don't know why since I know most people have been brainwashed but it just bugs me.

Tell him I said thank you  I take it as a compliment when people say my hair is fake. I guess you will have to just prove him wrong girlie!!! Don't feel bad though, some black people feel the same way. Q

Wow!! I was going to post something similar to this but I just chalked it up to ignorance!! But since we are on the subject of disbelievers....
I was on this site...{as always.. I am addicted}.. and my older brother was like" I don't know why you believe everything you hear or see? That obviously is not their really hair!" He began to analyze the difference in the color of the photos (HELLO different lighting),claiming there were "obviously" two or three different women in the photos (even when I went into you guys profiles with your faces + hair growth). Then he said "So I guess now you are gonna go out and buy all of the products they are selling too?" I was TOO heated. I tried explaning that it was not the products you guys have been using but the methods and how you guys care for your hair. Boy, when my hair is gliding down my back he is gonna be the first person to get hit with all my LONG HAIR,.. I mean my "EXCITMENT"!!:grin::grin:
:lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen:

I agree....but OP I can't wait til yours is swangin all in his face to prove him wrong! Maybe you should show him some of the other fotkis with long hair.

I'm not offended at all about what he said, my husband (who is black) feels the same way, and imo most black people do. Shoot, I even thought that before I found this site. Some people honestly believe that only mixed black women or women with so called "good hair" (type 3) can grow hair waist length and beyond. I also never dreamed relaxed hair could grow that long either. Just goes to show the type of mind set we grow up with. When I told my husband that I'm going to grow my hair to my waist he looked at me like I'd said I want to grow wings and fly like a bird!! :lachen:

Don't be annoyed, take it as motivation. I am determined to use this as motivation.
I know DH was not trying to be rude, but I will use this as motivation, thats all.

Big up to the ladies who have hair that looks fake.....girls you know you have beautiful hair when people think it is not yours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT REALLY IS A COMPLIMENT!!!
My hair is not even that healthy, but I have had a person or two touch it and say "Thats all yours?" It felt good to say "Oh yes it is" (as they tried to pull it off my head :lachen::lachen:)

Too funny!!! Q

(sigh)
one day they will learn...people that say things they don;t know about need to be educated. You are his educator:yep:
show him girlie!
my husband was looking at pics of me with hair past my shoulders. He was like"why did you cut your hair?"
I was like"i didn't cut it,it fell out!!!"
I'm happy that he assumed that i cut it,and not that it fell out,,,as confusing as that may seem.

This is too funny I swear people have a mental block when it comes to our hair! My sister did the same thing when I went to visit her for the holidays, It was so crazy ladied w shoulder lenght hair and longer was "getting called out" I just laughed and later that eve she was at the indian grocery and shortly thereafter hennaed and vatikaed down!

:perplexed

I am happy to say that my man really does not think black women cannot grow long hair. He thinks hair is hair and thinks I stress too much about growing it out. He says that all the stress I give about my hair is what might be keeping me from reaching my hair goals. :ohwell: He might be right! LOL

My BF actually used to think the opposite. We've been together close to a year and he's only seen my real hair for maybe 1 month total. Now he thinks he's a fake hair expert. Before I corrupted his mind he thought every single woman had real hair (even braids). I wish I never taught him anything about hair because, now I've created a monster.

I was about to say the same thing. Most of us don't believe we can grow our hair long so why be surprised when someone else says they can't do it?

with that said, everytime I hear someone say that, whether they are black or not it makes me more determined to prove them wrong....

I believe he's right. I put way too much energy and stress into this hair of mine. I'm sure once I stop worrying about it. It will flourish.

Couldn't have said it better myself :yep:

I'm not offended at all. Just stay consistant and prove him wrong! You can do it! :yay:
